Stuart Beavon saw his header from Scott Laird's corner diverted on to the post by the arm of midfielder Darren Potter.

Earlier, Alan Smith forced a fine save from Preston goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann in a game of few chances.

Beavon went close with his strike flying wide while Charlie MacDonald appeared to have been brought down by Stuckmann when one-on-one late on.
