Leon Clarke's sixth goal in eight games rescued a point for Scunthorpe at home to Brentford.

The Bees should have broken the deadlock when Clayton Donaldson blasted wide from the penalty spot after David Mirfin handled in the area.

However, Harry Forrester's fine solo effort put the visitors ahead.

The Iron looked lacklustre throughout, but on-loan Clarke headed in Christian Ribiero's cross to level, before Mirfin saw red in the dying moments.

Clarke's goal ensured Scunthorpe avoided their fourth successive defeat, while Brentford will be ruing the missed opportunity to get their first away win of the season.

Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I'm delighted in the end not to lose. I think that's the most important, that when you have three losses, you don't lose the fourth one.

"In the first half it didn't look as if we was going to get anything out of it, and probably everybody thought we weren't, but we did.

"[On Brentford's penalty] It's weird because some weeks you see it given, others you see it not and it really is all about the referee's interpretation of it.

"He gave it, but fortunately he put it wide."

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler told BBC London 94.9:

"We have seen a lot of good things today but also we've seen the problems we have.

"We are not killing games off.

"I saw how many times they stopped our counter-attack and got away with it.

"We were very naive and let them run 30m with the ball and cross the ball in."
