York and Rotherham played out an entertaining but goalless Yorkshire derby at Bootham Crescent.
Both Jason Walker and Ashley Chambers tested Millers keeper Scott Shearer in the first-half.
Walker could have put the hosts ahead in the second period, when he played a one-two with Michael Coulson before firing just wide of the post.
Millers striker Lionel Ainsworth may have made Walker pay when he broke clear, but poked wide under pressure.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:
"Rotherham set their stall out to get promoted this season and we've got a 0-0 at home with them.
"When you have games like this you have to be strong and wait for that opening.
"We had a couple of good openings to score, we didn't take them and that's the difference.
"But I'm absolutely delighted with my players again today."
Rotherham United assistant manager Paul Raynor told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"It's an away point. It's a difficult place to come and I think it will be difficult for teams throughout the season.
"On the balance of play, it was an even first half. I expected a little more from us in the final third.
"In the second half, we probably were unfortunate not to come away with three points."
