Kevan Hurst's late equaliser secured a point for Southend at the expense of Barnet, who are yet to win this season.
The Bees went two goals up - despite having their crossbar rattled twice - through Ricky Holmes' powerful drive and Jake Hyde's near-post finish.
Freddy Eastwood then soon hit back from the spot, after Barry Fuller had handled in the penalty area.
And Hurst's scuffed volley secured a share of the spoils for the Shrimpers as Barnet remain bottom of League Two.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Southend United manager Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex:
"I had a team of heavy-legged men. As the game unfolded, there wasn't a sharpness to us, there was a lethargy.
"The amount of running we had to do in midweek definitely came into that game and we were lucky to get a point.
"Our final cross, our final shot and our final pass let us down dramatically, that's the disappointing thing.
"Our shape and organisation when chasing the game went right out of the window. People were doing alien things, and it enabled Barnet to get in the right areas to cause us a lot of concern."
Barnet manager Mark Robson told BBC London 94.9:
"I thought our overall performance was first class. I felt that we looked like a real team.
"We rode our luck on the odd occasion in the first half but we created enough chances.
"I feel like I've had a defeat as opposed to getting a point."
