And this is where I bid you farewell. Thanks for keeping me company as the goals flew in over the last few hours and make sure you watch all of today's Premier League action on Match of the Day (on BBC One and this website in the UK) at 22:20 BST, and all of today's Football League goals in The Football League Show immediately afterwards at 00:05 BST (ditto). I'm back on Sunday for a huge day of action, starting at Anfield for Liverpool versus Manchester United - hope to see you all then.
-
MOTD's John Motson at Stamford BridgeFULL-TIME- CHELSEA 1-0 STOKE"If you asked me if this looks like a Chelsea side capable of winning the title I would have to say no. For all their possession and all their dominance, Stoke could have snatched the points here and arguably created the better chances. The problem for Chelsea is that they have three expensively assembled players, in Mata, Oscar and Hazard, who all want to play No 10. They appear to lack real width and this remains very much a team in progress for Roberto Di Matteo."
-
MOTD's Martin Fisher at St Mary'sFULL-TIME- SOUTHAMPTON 4-1 ASTON VILLA
"The chant 'There's only one Nigel Adkins was echoing around St Mary's after their terrific second half performance here. What a day for Saints as they get lift off in the Premier League. Southampton are in business. What on earth did Adkins say to his players at the break? They struggled in the first half."
-
MOTD's Conor McNamara at The HawthornsFULL-TIME- WEST BROM 1-0 READING"Steve Clarke celebrates West Brom's best start to a top-flight season for 30 years. They are now third in the table and this season just keeps getting better as his players show last week's 3-0 defeat at Fulham was just a blip."
-
MOTD's Alistair Mann at Upton ParkFULL-TIME- WEST HAM 1-1 SUNDERLAND
"West Ham tried and tried for an equaliser and it finally came from the man who looked most likely to score for them in Kevin Nolan. Sunderland's search for a Premier League win goes on after a 12-game run without one."
-
MOTD's Steve Bower at the DW StadiumFULL-TIME- WIGAN 1-2 FULHAM
"It was a rare away win for Martin Jol and Fulham. Hugo Rodallega put them ahead in the first half before Damien Duff gave them breathing space in the second half. Kone made it nervy with his late goal but it was too late for Wigan and Fulham saw it out."
-
MOTD's Steve Wilson at the Liberty StadiumFULL-TIME- SWANSEA 0-3 EVERTON"From front to back Everton were exceptional and were thoroughly deserved winners. Swansea were desperately poor in the first half and were not helped after the break by Nathan Dyer's sending off shortly after coming on. But Everton had a lot of heroes today - they ended up with three goals but it could have been many more."
-
1810:
Ah, apologies to Aston Villa (and Sunderland) fans for briefly reinstating Martin O'Neil as Villa boss just then. As you can probably tell, I'm running out of steam so lets have a quick recap of the days events. Shall we start in Wales?
-
1809:HALF-TIME
It's half-time at St Andrew's where it is still 0-0. Not too many chances about but Barnsley have had the best of them.
-
1805:
We've heard from pretty much every top-flight manager now, so here is Wigan boss Roberto Martinez to complete the set. He's NOT happy after his side's home defeat against Fulham.
"It was a really open game and a lot of chances - something we can't be happy about," Martinez said. "When you got so many chances whoever is going to take them is going to win the game. We had our chances and we didn't take them.
"We want to win games at home and to do that you need more defensive intensity. Overall we need to be better. Now it is time to open the competition, I think the competition is now open for places. There are places available now for people."

You want more stats, I'll give you more stats... (all courtesy of Infostrada Sports)
There was not a single first-half Premier League goal scored by the home side today. This was the first time in over eight years that home sides failed to score in the first 45 minutes on a Saturday in the division (with at least six clubs playing). The last came on 1May 1 2004 when seven clubs played.
Swansea suffered their biggest PL home defeat and biggest in the top flight since a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in May 1983.
Ashley Cole scored his seventh Premier League goal for Chelsea and his first since May 2010. He has been on the winning side in all seven PL matches when he has scored for them.
Southampton picked up their first PL victory of the season. It was their biggest PL victory since winning 4-1 at Wolves in April 2004, and their biggest at home since a 3-0 win against Portsmouth in December 2003.
-
1757:
Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill knows he came within second of ending that winless run too.
"We are frustrated with the late equaliser in terms of the way it was conceded and the timing," O'Neill explained. "We defended manfully but I thought we could have won. We had some good chances on the break. Overall, it was a tough game. We knew it would be and so it proved."
-
1756:
A couple of stats for you from Infostrada Sports about West Ham's 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
Sunderland have now failed to win in their last 12 Premier League matches - Martin O'Neill's outright longest run as manager in the division without a victory.
And the Hammers' last-gasp goalscoring hero Kevin Nolan scored his sixth career Premier League goal against Sunderland - the most against any top flight club he has faced. He has five in his last three matches against them.
-
1749:
Some news now of that new investment at Leeds United I mentioned earlier. Chairman Ken Bates has confirmed that negotiations surrounding potential investment in the club are at an "advanced stage"
Bates has confirmed he has been negotiating with a bank who are a limited company and have interests across the Gulf, Asia and Africa.
"We're well advanced with discussions," said Bates in a statement on Saturday. "There's a number of finer points to be resolved, but we're making good progress. We had four of the top people over here for a big meeting on Friday and they are at our game on Saturday (the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest). The potential investors are looking to conclude things as soon as possible."

Hmmmm, as you might expect, Stoke boss Tony Pulis sees things rather differently to his Chelsea counterpart...
"It is as well as we have played in the four or five years we have been coming here," Pulis said. "We created some great chances and gave it a real go. Ultimately we are disappointed but I am proud of the players.
And, on the late challenge on Jon Walters by Chelsea defender David Luiz, which referee Michael Oliver deemed worthy of a yellow card, not red: "It is a disgraceful challenge," Pulis added. "I think the boy would be the first to put his hands up and admit that when he sees it. You expect referees of Premier League quality to be able to see these kinds of incidents and deal with them.

1743:
His side had to wait a LONG time to see off Stoke but for Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo it was just a matter of time until they scored against Stoke, to secure a win that puts them three points clear at the top of the table.
"It was a fully deserved victory," Di Matteo said. "It was one way traffic. They created a few chances from set plays and free kicks but we were good value. They are very well organised and it is what we expected. If you can score an early goal that makes all the difference but we had to keep going and I don't care how late we score, as long as we score.
-
BBC pundit Robbie Savage on Final Score:On some of the refereeing decisions during Chelsea's win over Stoke: "Branislav Ivanovic's dive was shocking, and the tackle from David Luiz was a definite sending off. Anonymous via text: "I am serious about swapping Fernando Torres for Rickie Lambert. I have been following Lambert since he was at Bristol Rovers and I would say there has been no better English striker than him, apart from Rooney on a really good day, in the last five years. The only thing he lacks is pace. He is top quality in every other attribute as you will come to recognise this season. This player is a mix of Shearer, Gerrard and Drogba! I am not joking. I swear on my life."
-
Here's the man of the moment, Southampton striker Rickie Lambert, speaking after his brace against Aston Villa.
"It's a good mood in the dressing room, the lads are buzzing," Lambert said. "We've been desperate to get some points on the board. At half-time Nigel Adkins told us certain things were unacceptable but we still believed we could win the game. The goals today actually meant something and we managed to get the win, that's what matters in the end."
-
1731:
Like McDermott, Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is also keen to put today's events behind him and his side after their heavy defeat by Southampton.
"If you're not bang on at it at this level that's what can happen," Lambert said. "You pick yourself up and go again. Losing Stephen Ireland to injury was a blow. We thought he had been playing really well, but it was no excuse to lose like that. The goals we lost were really poor."
-
1731:
At the other end of the the table, things are not quite so rosy for Reading boss Brian McDermott, whose team are rock bottom after that defeat at The Hawthorns and have just one point from their first four games.
McDermott, however, thinks there are better days to come: "We just need to stick together - and we will do, we have done for a long time. The players have been successful in the past and they will be again. I know they are better than they are showing at the moment."
-
1728:
Fulham are flying high in fourth, but what about West Brom? Steve Clarke's men are up to third in the table - and the Baggies boss must be wondering why he wasted his time as an assistant manager for so long.
His side had to be patient against Reading before Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlock and Clarke said afterwards: "We just kept plugging away. It was always going to be a tight game and you could see halfway through that it might be the case that the first goal wins it. It is pleasing to look at the stats at the moment but there is a long way to go."

Berbatov's cross played in Rodallega beautifully for the first goal. Opposites attract, and they are very different. Berbatov holds the ball up and Rodallega runs in behind."
-
And Fulham boss Martin Jol should also be in a good mood after his side's win at Wigan that sees them climb to fourth in the table.
Ex-Latics striker Hugo Rodallega scored the Cottagers' first goal and Jol said: "One of the reasons that I played him was because it was against his former team and he had extra motivation to score against his old club and that's what he done."
"It is nice to get three points on the board. They are a difficult team. They have had a good few results this season. It was pleasing to see us taking the initiative. We gave it away in midfield a bit after that.
"But in the second half we took the initiative again and we got the win. We needed that goal as they scored in added time. You can't complain because they are a good football team, they deserved a goal too."
-
Southampton legend Matthew Le Tissier on Twitter: "So pleased for Nigel Adkins today. No-one deserved that more than him."
-
1715:
I'm pretty sure that, like Nigel Adkins, West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is quite a happy man right now. West Ham left it until the 92nd minute but they finally forced an equaliser against a resolute Sunderland side.
"In terms of play and chances we created enough to get back into the game," Allardyce said. "We had pinned them back and were waiting for the quality of finish and that came in injury time. Even in the dressing room the lads are disappointed considering the attempts on goal we had."
-
1712:
And here is the Saints manager, talking about a win for the first time this season, and also talking about the backing he has received from his side's fans:
"The Premier League is a massive challenge for everybody and today was a deserved three points," Nigel Adkins said. "I thought we were in the ascendancy in the first half and we changed it around in the second half and the players did well, creating chances and we scored four goals.
"We want to pass the football, and I think the supporters understand that as well, and there was a massive togetherness in the stadium today."
-
1710:
It will be interesting to see if there are more stories about Southampton boss Nigel Adkins getting the sack this week, following their emphatic win over Aston Villa. By the way, Rickie Lambert's two goals today mean he has four for the season, making him the joint-top scorer in the Premier League, along with Michu of Swansea and Manchester United's Robin van Persie.

I think it's fair to say that Chelsea defender Ashley Cole saw his 85th-minute winner against Stoke today as more of a relief than anything else.
"It was a battle, Stoke are always physical and make it hard for us to play our football," Cole said. "They defend deep with 10 men, but for our goal, it was a great move and I took a chance to get into the box. I had a few shots in the first half and took too much time on the ball with them, but this time, the first thing that came into my brain was to dink it and I just did it.
"It's been two or three years since I scored. It is mentally good to get a lead in the league table, last season we didn't have a good time in the Premier League too often."
-
1701:
That dramatic late West Ham leveller means Sunderland have followed Stoke in drawing their first four Premier League games of this season. The Black Cats are only the third Premier League club to do that, following the Potters (this season) and Crystal Palace (in 1992/93).
-
FOOTBALL LEAGUE ROUND-UP
Brighton lead the Championship by two points after beating 10-man Millwall 2-1. Glenn Murray scored a hat-trick in 20 second-half minutes as Crystal Palace rallied from a 2-0 half-time deficit to beat Cardiff 3-2, while Peterborough suffered their seventh successive league defeat as Wolves scored in each half for their fourth win in five games. League One's top match saw an epic contest at Broadfield Stadium, fourth-placed Crawley coming from a goal down to go ahead against Tranmere, but the leaders scoring twice in seven minutes at the start of the second half and going on to win 5-2, and in the battle of the top two in League Two, leaders Gillingham ended Port Vale's unbeaten home league record with two first-half goals at Vale Park.
-
BBC pundit Steve Claridge on Final Score:"Reading have not spent as much as Southampton. At the moment, they are not that kind of club. You have to give the players who brought you up an oppiortunity to see if they can do it. At the moment they are struggling, though."
-
1657:
After that flurry of late excitement, and goals, the final whistle has gone at every Premier League ground. When the dust settles, Chelsea will be three points clear at the top, and Southampton are off the bottom and out of the relegation zone. Reading's defeat at West Brom means they replace Saints as the basement club.

1651:GOAL- SOUTHAMPTON 4-1 ASTON VILLA - Rickie Lambert pen (94 mins)
The icing on the cake for Southampton. Brad Guzan brings down Emmanuel Mayuka in the box and Rickie Lambert coolly slots the ball into the bottom corner to complete a good day's work for Saints, who are now sure of their first Premier League points.
-
1651:GOAL- WEST HAM 1-1 SUNDERLAND - Kevin Nolan (92 mins)
Sunderland's defences are breached, in the 92nd minute. Matt Jarvis hooks the ball back into play when it looked like it was heading out, Modibo Maiga knocked it on and Kevin Nolan was in the right place to sweep home a last-gasp equaliser for the Hammers.
-
1650:PENALTY- to Southampton
-
1650:GOAL- WIGAN 1-2 FULHAM - Arouna Kone (90 mins)
Late hope for Wigan, with Arouna Kone pulling one back from a corner. He collects the ball in a crowd of players and turns to fire home.
-
1648:Chelsea's David Luiz
A bit of a kerfuffle at Stamford Bridge, where referee Michael Oliver has an angry Stoke mob to deal with after a horribly wild challenge by David Luiz, which is bad enough for a straight red but ends up earning him a yellow card. Eventually, he calms things down.
-
BBC pundit Steve Claridge on Final Score:"When I was playing under Martin O'Neill when he was managing Leicester, he made us tough to beat and well organised. In open play, there has not been much to talk about from West Ham and Sunderland have only been troubled from set pieces. They have just been pumping the ball into the box."
-
1646:
Markus Rosenberg sees a long-range shot saved as West Brom push for a second goal against Reading. Sunderland also have a slender one-goal advantage, at Upton Park, where it is West Ham who are still doing all the attacking.
-
1645:SUBSTITUTION
Chelsea bring on John Terry, in the 89th minute. That can't have happened too often before. Terry replaces Juan Mata as the Blues look to bolster their backline in the face of what might be a Stoke bombardment.
-
1643:
Stoke, predictably, pour forward in search of an equaliser. But, when they force a corner, it is almost Chelsea who score again. Victor Moses runs clear after being released on the counter-attack, but Matthew Etherington is back in the nick of time to slide in.

1641:GOAL- CHELSEA 1-0 STOKE - Ashley Cole (85 mins)
FINALLY, Chelsea find the net. They attack down the right and at first glance it appears Juan Mata has miscontrolled a pass, allowing Ashley Cole to ghost in behind him and hammer home from close range. Replays, though, show Mata meant every bit of that clever flick.
-
1641:
Reading have not threatened very often today, so this counts as a big chance for them against West Brom. A cross comes in from the right and Hal Robson-Kanu heads over.
At the DW Stadium, Fulham are not just looking to keep a clean sheet, they want more goals. They would have had one too, if not for a great save by Ali Al Habsi to deny Dimitar Berbatov.
-
FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
Glenn Murray has hit a second-half hat-trick in 20 minutes to put Crystal Palace 3-2 up against Cardiff in a remarkable game at Selhurst Park. That will leave Brighton two points clear at the top of the Championship table, but 10-man Millwall have pulled a goal back against the Seagulls and are now only 2-1 behind.
-
1637:
Here comes Frank Lampard for Chelsea, replacing Jon Obi Mikel. Looks like Roberto di Matteo will not be happy with just a point from this one... they are really going for this.
-
BBC pundit Robbie Savage on Final Score:"Stoke have been terrific today, for me, they have been the better team against Chelsea."
-
1635:
It is still goalless at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea's chances have dried up a bit, despite the Blues enjoying far superior possession, and Stoke are still threatening an unlikely winner. Matt Etherington drags a shot wide when the ball drops to him in the Chelsea box and Kenwyne Jones has just headed straight at Petr Cech.
-
1635:HITS THE WOODWORK
Mark Schwarzer protects Fulham's two-goal lead by pushing an Ivan Ramis header on to the bar from Jean Beausejour's free-kick.
West Ham hit the woodwork too, with James Collins seeing a header brush the top of the bar from a Mark Noble corner - Sunderland still lead 1-0 in that one and are working hard to keep it that way - the Hammers are doing all the attacking right now.
-
BBC pundit Steve Claridge on Final Score"Fulham a nice, stable club who are never going to get relegated or push for trophies, and you can see why Damien Duff and Dimitar Berbatov are enjoying it there. The fans are nice there and not extreme, so it is a nice, relaxing club to play at."

FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
Brighton could be two points clear in the Championship tonight, partly thanks to their old rivals Crystal Palace, who have come from 2-0 down to draw level against Cardiff, with two goals from Glenn Murray within 10 second half minutes. The Seagulls still lead 2-0 at Millwall, while Ipswich, seeking to avoid a third successive defeat, have pulled one back but trail Charlton 2-1 and Peterborough still look set for a seventh successive defeat, 1-0 down against Wolves. In League One, leaders Tranmere remain 4-2 up at Crawley after two goals in quick succession early in the second half and in the battle of League Two's top two, Gillingham remain 2-0 up at Port Vale, both goals coming in the first half.
-
1627:GOAL- SOUTHAMPTON 3-1 ASTON VILLA - Jason Puncheon (72 mins)
Breathing space for Southampton as they look to secure their first Premier League points. Rickie Lambert raids down the left as Saints break quickly and slides in Jason Puncheon near the byline, who turns inside before firing in a shot that cannons off Ciaran Clark and flies past the helpless Brad Guzan.
-
1627:GOAL- WEST BROM 1-0 READING - Romelu Lukaku (71 mins)
The Baggies probably thought it would never come but, after missing a host of chances, they have the lead. A cross is cleared as far as Romelu Lukaku on the edge of the box and he digs the ball out from under his feet before slamming it through a crowd of players and past Alex McCarthy. It was very close to the Reading keeper but he did not see it until very late.

Damien Duff is the man to slam this one home but plaudits go to Fulham substitute Bryan Ruiz, who battles to hold off four players and tee up the Duff Man to fire an angled strike past Ali Al Habsi from just inside the area.
-
BBC pundit Robbie Savage on Final Score:On Southampton's goal: "Nathaniel Clyne has continued his run into the penalty box, and summer signing from Crewe, Ashley Westwood appeals for offside when there was no chance Clyne could have been. 1623:
Chelsea continute to toil in front of goal, with Oscar doing everything but finding the finishing touch. He dances away from the Stoke defence on the edge of the area and makes space for a low drive which, again, Asmir Begovic is equal too. The Stoke keeper has earned his corn today, and the score remains 0-0.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
Brighton look certain to be going top of the Championship tonight after Adam El-Abd poked in their second from close range at Millwall. Cardiff could be level on points, but Crystal Palace have pulled a goal back and now trail 2-1, while sorry Peterborough remain on course for a seventh successive defeat, a goal down at home to Wolves. In an enthralling game in League One, leaders Tranmere have scored twice in the first seven minutes of the second half to go 4-2 up at fourth-placed Crawley and in the battle of the top two in League Two, leaders Gillingham lead Port Vale after two first-half goals.

1619:GOAL- SOUTHAMPTON 2-1 ASTON VILLA - Nathaniel Clyne (63 mins)
A nicely-worked move this, which Nathaniel Clyne starts and, via Rickie Lambert's pass and Gaston Ramirez's fantastic flick, finishes after running into the area. Saints lead. Now, can they hold on to it this time?
-
1617:
Wigan have had a chance, but Arouna Kone made a right mess of it. Close control and silky skills - the Ivory Coast keeper shows none of these as he stumbles on to a through ball that has sent him clear, taking two heavy touches that are reminiscent of his nation's footballing nickname - the elephants. Mark Schwarzer is off his line to mop up.

Despite the presence of three Villa defenders around him on the edge of the box, the Saints striker makes space for a shot that he slams past Brad Guzan. Could the Villa keeper have done better with that? Probably. The Southampton fans won't care though.

Better by Chelsea. Much better. Oscar brings a superb stop from Asmir Begovic and suddenly the Blues are peppering the Stoke goal with shots. The Potters hold out, however, and at the moment they are heading for their fifth draw in five Premier League games.
-
1606:YELLOW CARD- Chelsea's Oscar
So, Chelsea's 'famous four' of Oscar, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres did not produce the goods before the break, and things have not gone their way since the restart either.
Oscar goes down in the box under a challenge from Ryan Shawcross and the Blues want a penalty. Instead, referee Michael Oliver shows the Chelsea man a yellow card for a dive. Not an Oscar-winning performance that one (sorry). In fairness to the Brazilian, replays are pretty inconclusive over whether there was contact.

West Brom pick up where they left off before half-time against Reading, with Zolta Gera working a shooting chance but seeing his shot blocked by Kaspars Gorkss.

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has been speaking about his side's disastrous afternoon which saw them well beaten by Everton earlier and have Nathan Dyer sent off. He doesn't sound too happy, understandably.
"Everton deserved to win the game today," said the Dane. "They are a good side and we didn't play well in the first 30 minutes. We came back into the game but were already 2-0 down. We created six or seven good chances and that is a positive to take from the game. We need to get back on track after two defeats on the bounce. We need to improve.

MOTD's Steve Bower at the DW StadiumHALF-TIME- WIGAN 0-1 FULHAM
"The home team behind courtesy of a goal from a very familiar face in Hugo Rodallega who is back at the DW Stadium and back with a goal. Wigan have had more possession since going behind and very nearly marked it with an equaliser."
-
MOTD's John Motson at Stamford BridgeHALF-TIME- CHELSEA 0-0 STOKE"It has been a frustrating first half for Chelsea, with Ivanovic, their right-back, arguably their biggest threat. Despite seeing comparatively little of the ball, Stoke have created the two best chances. Jonathan Walters rose highest to head against Petr Cech's crossbar before Michael Kightly went close from Geoff Cameron's driven cross. Torres trudges off frustrated."
-
MOTD's Conor McNamara at The Hawthorns, BBC commentatorHALF-TIME- WEST BROM 0-0 READING"Reading have not had many chances so far this afternoon and it was definitely an opening 45 minutes in which West Brom created the better openings. Romelu Lukaku wasted one with a heavy first touch towards the end and then and Jonas Olsson hit the woodwork so it is scoreless at the break."
-
MOTD's Alistair Mann at Upton ParkHALF-TIME- WEST HAM 0-1 SUNDERLAND
"There was no fluency about West Ham and credit had to go to Sunderland for that. But The Hammers will be frustrated that they are trailing because they have grown into the game and had started to create openings late in the half."
-
MOTD's Martin Fisher at St Mary'sHALF-TIME- SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 ASTON VILLA
"Southampton go in at the break trailing and it's pleasing to see there's no booing from their support. More poor defending from the home side and Bent doesn't need too many chances to start putting them away."

And it is half-time at Upton Park too. We have got a bit of injury time to be played at the DW Stadium, though, because of that tackle on referee Lee Probert. Yes, you did read that right.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
Brighton could be top of the Championship table tonight and are looking impressive in leading Millwall 1-0 with a firm strike from Ashley Barnes, Cardiff look set to be level on points after two goals in as many minutes at Crystal Palace, while bottom side Peterborough could be heading for a seventh successive defeat, trailing Wolves following a Sylvan Ebanks-Blake penalty. In League One fourth-placed Crawley came from behind to go ahead against leaders Tranmere, Josh Simpson and Kyle McFadzean on target in the space of four minutes but Jake Cassidy has made it 2-2 and in League Two, leaders Gillingham are 2-0 up at Port Vale, who have won their last four, 35-year-old Deon Burton and Chris Whelpdale, with a sweetly struck effort from 15 yards, the goalscorers.
-
1546:
West Brom continue to create chances... and miss them. First Romain Lukaku takes a heavy touch after being played in, allowing Chris Gunter to clear for a corner. When that comes in, Jonas Olsson rises at the back post but powers a header against the angle of post and bar from about eight yards out.
-
1543:GREAT SAVE!
West Ham's best effort yet, and it brings a magnificent save from Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet. Ricardo Vaz Te's cross is met by an acrobatic and full-blooded Kevin Nolan volley, which is brilliantly pushed away by the Belgian.
-
1542:
Another nervous moment for Chelsea. Geoff Cameron fires in a driven cross from wide on the right, Michael Kightly gets his head to it at the back post but Cech scrambles it clear, with a little help from Gary Cahill.
Stoke are creating the better chances, despite seeing very little of the ball.

You wouldn't say West Ham are knocking on Sunderland's door as they search for an equaliser but they are eking out the odd chance. Mark Noble flights in a West Ham free-kick from a central position and Kevin Nolan holds off Craig Gardner as he tries to steer in a shot... which goes wide.
-
1538:HITS THE WOODWORK
The chances keep coming - almost a quick reply for Wigan, with Jordi Gomez guiding his first-time shot against the Fulham bar after good work by the Latics down the left.
At Stamford Bridge, Stoke have also hit the woodwork, with Marc Wilson's rising shot from long range being helped on to the bar by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.
-
BBC pundit Robbie Savage praises Dimitar Berbatov on Final Score:"I trhink Berbatov was harshly treated at Manchester United, and did not get a fair crack of the whip. His role suits him at Fulham, and his cross was superb for the goal."
-
1535:GOAL- SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 ASTON VILLA - Darren Bent (36 mins)
Debut keeper Paulo Gazzaniga is not at fault here, but most of the Southampton defence is. They somehow failed to clear at the ball bounced in pinball fashion around the box, eventually landing at the feet of Darren Bent about six yards out to steer the ball home. Bent missed the end of last season through injury and that is his first Premier League goal since February.

Hugo Rodallega could not hit a barn door for Wigan last season so this was always going to happen - he has scored his first goal for Fulham against his old club. Dimitar Berbatov makes it, with a delicious cross from the right, and the Colombian leaps highest to crash an unstoppable header into the net.
-
1530:
A bit of a let-off here for Reading, as West Brom come forward again, this time down the right. Zoltan Gera finds James Morrison in space rushing into the box but his shot is rushed and bobbles harmlessly wide.
-

-

There's been a missed chance at Upton Park too, where West Ham have almost equalised. The Hammers ping a cross over to the far post and Ricardo Vaz Te meets it with a header which bounces into the ground before going just wide.
-
Shaun via text: "It's clear what Stoke are trying to do: keep it tight and force Chelsea to the flanks. They know they'll win any aerial challenge in their own box so Chelsea have to go through the middle and get crowded out. It's gonna be a difficult afternoon at Stamford Bridge."

FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
Both teams who could go top of the Championship table are ahead, Aron Gunnarsson and Don Cowie within two minutes putting Cardiff 2-0 up after a quarter of an hour, while at the New Den, Brighton lead Millwall after Will Buckley cut back from the right and Ashley Barnes rifled home. In League One, fourth-placed Crawley, who have won four of their last five, have come from a goal down to go ahead against leaders Tranmere and in the battle of League Two's top two, leaders Gillingham have taken the lead with a header from 35-year-old Deon Burton.
-
1526:
Missed chances all round at the DW Stadium and Stamford Bridge.
For Wigan against Fulham, Maynor Figueroa's cross is met by Emmerson Boyce at point-blank range at the back post but Boyce does not even hit the target. For Chelsea against Stoke, Fernando Torres is clean through after chesting down a lovely dinked pass by Juan Mata but he completely misses his kick with only Asmir Begovic to beat. It was bouncing awkwardly but even so, that was poor.
-
1523:
It's not happening for Chelsea at the moment. They have a shout for a penalty when Branislav Ivanovic goes down, seemingly under a challenge from Geoff Cameron. Replays show he actually anticipated contact, and there wasn't any. It was a pretty awful - not to mention unconvincing - dive to be honest.
-
1520:
More action at the DW Stadium now and, no, it's not to tell you about another accidental assault on referee Lee Probert. There have been two chances in quick succession for Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega against his old club, with Ali Al Habsi diving to keep out his first effort, a header from a Dimitar Berbatov cross. Jean Beausejour was in the right place moments later to stop the ball reaching Rodallega after Chris Baird flicked on Damien Duff's cross.
-
1518:HITS THE WOODWORK
It's been all Chelsea so far at Stamford Bridge but it is Stoke who have just gone closest to scoring. Jon Walters rises to meet Glenn Whelan's whipped free-kick and powers a header against the bar, which is probably still wobbling.

This one is painful and it is the refereee on the wrong end of it. Wigan's Ben Watson and Fulham's Steve Sidwell slide in for a loose ball and end up taking out Lee Probert - if that was on a player it would have been straight reds all round! Probert needs lengthy treatment but he is fine to continue. Maybe Watson and Sidwell should tread carefully for the next few minutes though?

1509:GOAL- WEST HAM 0-1 SUNDERLAND - Steve Fletcher (9 mins)
Steve Fletcher's hot streak continues, but he has Jussi Jaaskelainen to thank here. He gets a good hand to it but cannot keep it out.

At St Mary's, we are still waiting for Villa to test Paulo Gazzaniga for the first time. Some of you may be familiar with the work of Southampton's 20-year-old goalkeeper, but for those of you who aren't I can tell you the Argentine moved to Spain as a 15-year-old in a bid to follow in his father's footsteps who himself was a professional goalkeeper.
Valencia signed the then teenager in 2010, but the 6ft 5in goalie left the La Liga club last year and was awarded a two-year deal with Gillingham after a successful trial. He made the number one shirt his own in the latter part of last season, keeping seven clean sheets during the second half of the campaign, and his performances at Priestfield caught the eye of many clubs with the Argentine choosing St Mary's as his next destination.

-
1359:SUBSTITUTION- Leon Britton for Alan Tate
Another change for Swansea, and they are going to reshuffle their formation too, with Ki Sung Yueng dropping back into defence.
-
1357:GREAT SAVE!
Speaking of great saves, here is one from Tim Howard, clawing away Ki Sung Yueng's stinging shot as Swansea come forward again. This game is end to end, and full of excitement.
-
1357:HITS THE WOODWORK
Swansea are wide open on the break, though, and they are almost caught out here. Marouane Fellaini is held up after charging into the box but the ball comes back to Kevin Mirallas, who clips his shot over Michel Vorm and comes back off the bar. Victor Anichebe collects the rebound and powers in a low shot that Vorm pushes away. A great save, that.
-
1356:
Everton have a shout for a penalty at the other end when Ki Sung Yueng pushes Kevin Mirallas but replays show the Belgian goes to ground far, far too easily. The Toffees are doing a lot more defending than attacking at the moment, though, with the Swans forcing a flurry of corners... all of which are cleared.
-
1353:
The early pressure is from Swansea at the start of the second half and they don't take long to test Tim Howard, with Michu running on to Wayne Routledge's pass and smacking a shot straight at Tim Howard. Ki Sung Yueng has pinged another perfect long pass over the top of the Everton defence too - he has got better and better as this game has gone on.

MOTD's Steve Bower at the DW StadiumWIGAN v FULHAM (15:00 BST)
"With Wigan and Fulham having made solid starts, both clubs will view this as a fixture they can win to continue the early-season optimism. For Fulham in particular, six points from 12 so far is a real boost. If Wigan are to avoid any more late dramas this season then you feel this is the type of fixture they need to win, or at least take something from, especially since they struggled against the lesser lights last season."
-
MOTD's Alistair Mann at Upton Park:WEST HAM v SUNDERLAND (15:00 BST)
"This fixture proves how quickly football clubs evolve. West Ham have been relegated and promoted and, in the 16 months since they last met, both have changed their managers, while their playing personnel has altered so dramatically that only three of the 22 players who started in May 2011 are also likely to start this time - and all three are Sunderland employees. The visitors arrive seeking their first win since March - their 11-game winless run represents Martin O'Neill's worst as a top-flight boss."
-
MOTD's Conor McNamaraWEST BROM v READING (15:00 BST)"West Brom fans are getting used to seeing their team avoid defeat at home as they have lost just one of their last six league games at The Hawthorns and have conceded just once in those fixtures. Reading had the best defence in the Championship last season, but the step up to facing the best strikers in the land has, so far, been a reality check. The Royals have shipped seven goals in their last two league games."
-
MOTD's Martin Fisher at St Mary'sSOUTHAMPTON v ASTON VILLA (15:00 BST)
"It sounds grim. Bottom of the pile. Pointless after four successive defeats. The latest a 6-1 humiliation at Arsenal. Some Southampton supporters must be wishing they could hit the erase button and start all over again. Things are looking a little brighter at Aston Villa. Paul Lambert has a big job on his hands to turn the ship around, but four points from the last six suggests he's getting his message across. Both managers would love a win, but in the circumstances a draw wouldn't be a bad outcome for either. And I'm something of an omen on that score. So far this season all four of my Match of the Day games have finished all square."
-
MOTD's John Motson at Stamford BridgeCHELSEA v STOKE (15:00 BST)"Stoke may have drawn their first four Premier League games but I think they would happily take a fifth today, given their poor record at Stamford Bridge. In April 2010 they lost 7-0 here and you have to go back to 1974 to find their last league win away to the Blues. Anything they get today is a bonus but everyone knows how difficult they are to play against, especially when the ball is in the air or at set-pieces. Although Chelsea start the weekend on top of the table they are still not firing on all cylinders. The jury is still very much out on how they will manage without Didier Drogba."
-
1341:
Right then. Everton are good value for their lead but Swansea's late rally showed they are a much better team than their performance in the first 35 minutes suggested. They will feel they are not out of this game yet, but while we wait for the second half, let's have quick look at our five 15:00 BST Premier League matches...
-
MOTD's Steve Wilson at the Liberty Stadium, BBC SportHALF-TIME- SWANSEA 0-2 EVERTON"It could have been anything at half-time. Marouane Fellaini seemed to handle as Victor Anichebe scored the first and then Kevin Mirallas scored the second from a great Everton move. Despite going 2-0 down in the 43rd minute, Swansea could have scored three before we reached the break."
-
1334:HALF-TIME- SWANSEA 0-2 EVERTON
-
1333:
Make that a hat-trick of chances for Angel Rangel, in as many minutes. He is all alone to meet Alan Tate's dipping cross at the back post but only succeeds in knocking the ball away from goal, rather than towards it.
-
1331:
Almost an immediate reply for Swansea, with Angel Rangel's driven cross-shot only eluding Danny Graham by an inch in front of goal. Moments later, Rangel brings a smart block out of Tim Howard, after latching on to a clever Ki Sung Yueng pass inside the Everton box. He probably should have done better from there.
-
BBC Sport pundit Joe Jordan talking about Everton's second goal on BBC Radio 5 live: "You have got to give credit to Steven Pienaar. He had the ball played in front of him, but he did not mess around, and played the ball in behind the Swansea back four to Kevin Mirallas. When you consider Everton are the away team, they have dominated the game and played the best football. I would like to think that in the second half we will see more of Swansea."
-
1328:GOAL- SWANSEA 0-2 EVERTON - Kevin Mirallas (43 mins)
No question marks over this goal - it's a belter. Everton counter-attack in style, starting with Seamus Coleman and Phil Neville who cooly exchange passes near their own corner flag. Marouane Fellaini spots Steven Pienaar's darting run down the right and his low cross is perfectly weighted for Kevin Mirallas, who sees his first shot touched on to the bar by Michel Vorm but reacts quickly to nod the bouncing ball over the line from close range. Hard cheese for Vorm, who made a wonderful initial save and was again horribly exposed.
-
1327:
... it's another dangerous delivery too, which is just diverted away from Kevin Mirallas at the back post at the last moment.
-
1327:
We are into the last five minutes of the first half. Everton have had to ride out a bit of pressure of late but they have just won another free-kick, this time out on the right. Leighton Baines has come across to take it...

Jim in Fulham via text: "Last week I texted in to suggest the top four was already in place, but on this start to the season, maybe Everton are dark horses for a Champions League spot?"
-
1324:
Here's another reminder Swansea are still in this game: The Swans knock the ball around on the edge of the Everton box and tee up Ki Sung Yueng, who bends in a terrific shot that does not have quite enough curl on it to come back inside Tim Howard's left-hand post. Only a few inches in it, though.
-
1321:
More Swansea pressure, with Wayne Routledge's shot being blocked and going out for a corner. When it comes in, Danny Graham looks to be on the end of it but Michu rises highes - even higher than Marouane Fellaini's hair in fact - and powers his header over the top. A reminder that, for all of Everton superiority so far, they only lead 1-0. And, as bad as Swansea have been, they are still in this game.
-
BBC Sport pundit Joe Jordan talking about why Swansea's passing game has yet to get started against Everton on BBC Radio 5 live: "I think you have to give credit to Everton. They are pushing up on masse. Also, when you look at the midfield of Swansea, it is nearly all new. Ki Sung-Yeung is in there with Jonathan De Guzman, and they have to get used to playing with each other."

Seamus Ladde in Clapham via text: "Hiding your handballs with your massive hair is a new one."
-
1319:
At last, Swansea respond. Danny Graham chases a through-ball and Tim Howard is off his line to close him down from a tight angle. Graham plays the ball back to Pablo Hernandez on the edge of the box, but his attempt to curl the ball over Howard and into the empty net is a tame one and the Toffees have men back on the line to comfortably clear. I'm not sure it was going in anyway.
-
1317:
I'd be interested to know the number of free-kicks Swansea have conceded already today, and the number of misplaced passes they have made. It seems like about 100 of both.
Meanwhile, Everton are still racking up the chances, continuing to get the ball in the box - this time Marouane Fellaini sees a header blocked by Ashley Williams when a throw-in isn't cleared.

1316:YELLOW CARD- Swansea's Ki Sung Yueng
Fair to say, Ki Sung Yueng has not had the best of times in the Swansea midfield so far, and he has just been booked for catching Steven Pienaar with a late challenge as he tried to recover another sloppy misplaced pass.
-
1313:
It's not just Swansea's defending which is all over the place, their passing is all at sea too. Everton have continued to dominate since going ahead and, although there was a handball in the build-up to the Toffees' goal, the only surprise is that they are not further ahead after half an hour. It's been one-way traffic so far.
-
Talking on BBC Radio 5 live, BBC Sport pundit Joe Jordan is not impressed with Swansea's defending: "You look at Fellaini there, and it is hard to accept. You have allowed him to take it down on his chest, he has not even had to head it down. He has had too much time there, and there will be an inquest about how that happened. You would be very disappointed if you were in the Swansea camp."

Although, after the decisions that went against them in their draw against Newcastle on Monday, the Toffees will probably argue they are due the rub of the green.
-
1306:GOAL- SWANSEA 0-1 EVERTON - Victor Anichebe (21 mins)
Yes, it has been coming. Everton pump a ball into to the Swansea box, Maroaune Fellaini puts his head (and hair) in where it hurts to beat Alan Tate to it and knocks it on for Victor Anichebe to rifle home from about 10 yards out. The Toffees are ahead and, on the balance of play, they thoroughly deserve it.

1305:
Here come Everton again. This time Victor Anichebe has a pop himself, but Michel Vorm is behind his shot at his right-hand post.
-
1304:
So, Swansea have improved... but Everton are still finding lots of space in the home side's defence. This time, Victor Anichebe tees up Steven Pienaar, who drags his shot wide from 25 yards out. More good play from David Moyes' side but the score remains 0-0.

Steve J via text: "More inconsistencies from the officials. Ashley Williams's foul on Victor Anichebe was a blatant red card!"

1302:
And a first proper sight of goal for Swansea follows shortly afterwards. Danny Graham cannot get on the end of of high ball into the Everton box but it is cleared only as far as Pablo Herndandez on the edge of the area. He meets the dropping ball on the volley but slices it the wrong side of Tim Howard's post.
-
1300:
A first sniff for Swansea, with Michu chasing a ball over the top. It bounces through to Tim Howard, who is standing on the edge of his area to collect. The Swans players and fans reckon Howard was outside the box when he handled it then, but replays show he stayed inside it.
-
BBC Sport pundit Joe Jordan about how the sale of Joe Allen to Liverpool has effected Swansea on BBC Radio 5 live: "I think they are more direct these days. They have lost Joe Allen to Liverpool, a passer who kept the ball moving in the centre of the midfield, and Michu has come in. He plays in behind striker Danny Graham and does not get involved in the build-up anywhere near as much as Allen, but he is rewarded with goals."

... Leighton Baines does take it too, but can only fire into the wall. By the way, I think referee Anthony Taylor felt Ashley Williams was not the last man for that foul, hence the yellow card not a red. David Moyes, on the touchline, seemed to disagree. Swansea, incidentally, tried to argue it wasn't a foul at all. It was.
-
1257:YELLOW CARD- Swansea's Ashley Williams
More trouble for Swansea as a sloppy pass back to Ashley Williams allows Victor Anichebe to nip in. Williams, stretching, brings the Everton striker down on the edge of the area and that is a booking for Wiliams and a free-kick in a very dangerous position for the visitors. Leighton Baines will be behind this one...
-
1256:
Everton are winning the midfield battle at the moment and Swansea still cannot settle. They keep on giving free-kicks away too. Here come the Toffees again, but Alan Tate beats Marouane Fellaini to Seamus Coleman's cross.
-
1253:
Swansea have given away lots of free-kicks so far, with Angel Rangel the main culprit. That is probably not advisable against Everton, especially with Leighton Baines on the pitch. He has just swung another dangerous delivery in from the left, but the Welsh side clear their lines.
-
1251:
It is still all Everton here. Swansea just cannot keep hold of the ball, which is very unlike them.
-
BBC Sport pundit Joe Jordan on BBC Radio 5 live talking about Everton's impressive start aganst Swansea: "We have talked many times about the quality Leighton Baines has from dead balls. It was a great ball in, and Victor Anichebe got a good header to it, maybe he should have been able to direct it a bit more into the corner, though. It is a bright start from Everton. They have not let Swansea settle at all. The Everton players have gotten after them and got the ball into the box."
-
1248:
Swansea are struggling to get out of their own half and Everton have just gone close again. Pablo Hernandez gives the ball away and the Toffees pour forward down the left, with Kevin Mirallas meeting a pull-back with a first-time strike that is straight at Michel Vorm, who pushes the ball away.
Maroune Fellaini skews the follow-up off target but the ball remains in play and Everton quickly cross again from the same flank, with another Mirallas effort - a header this time - bringing a far more routine stop from Vorm.
-
1246:

Much has changed in Swansea since, not least with the introduction of Spanish flair through Pablo Hernandez - set for a home debut - and Miguel Michu. Talking of attacking options, when did Everton last have so many? No Nikica Jelavic today but Victor Anichebe is showing signs of having taken a step up."

1155:
Just to clarify in case the Football Association are watching, my suitcase at the Liberty Stadium contained a few pairs of socks and some spare underpants. Don't think that would have been much of an incentive for Swansea win the game (or lose it).
-
1153:
We kick things off in Wales, though.
I once went to see Swansea play carrying a suitcase (a mate and I were heading down to the Gower for a few days, saw the floodlights were on when we went past the Liberty Stadium on the train, realised there was a League Cup game happening that evening, so got off at Swansea station and got a taxi back to the ground) but, other than the fact it was almost impossible to get the thing through the turnstiles, it would be unadvisable for anyone to do the same today...
Swans boss Michael Laudrup provoked a bit of a storm when he spoke this week about having no problem with teams paying rival sides to win games, something which in Spain can involve them turning up with cases of cash.
"It's just a bonus. For me, match-fixing is somebody pays someone to lose a game," he said. "In Spain where there's one or two matches left in a season we always talked about the suitcases. But the suitcases is to win - I don't see anything bad about that."
-
1149:
So, do you think Nigel Adkins' job is safe? Should it be? And who actually will be/should be the first Premier League manager to get the boot this season?
Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham seems to have been the only other man getting any stick (and even that seems to have died down now they have won a game) and the lack of sacking-chat makes a nice change at this stage of the season (although I appreciate I have just asked for some!).
Anyway, Tweet me using the hashtag #bbcfootball or text the commentary using 81111. Make sure you PUT YOUR NAMES on those texts, though, otherwise I can't use them.
-
1146:
Out of the teams at the bottom of the table, Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is the manager feeling the most heat after seeing his side lose their first four Premier League games.
The likes of Rafa Benitez and Harry Redknapp have been linked with the job despite the fact that A) Adkins has led Saints to back-to-back promotions and B) they have played both Manchester clubs (pushing them both very close) and Arsenal in their opening fixtures.
Does the speculation affect Adkins? No. "I don't read the newspapers," he said. "I've got a great working relationship with the chairman here."
-
1142:
Top-of-the-table Chelsea are among the sides in action in the next few hours but, looking at the fixtures, today in the top flight is less about the title, and more about those who are trying to stay up.
Normally, there would be a few alarm bells ringing if your side was still waiting for their first win of the campaign in late September but the Olympics and an international break means we have had less Premier League football than usual. There are still SEVEN PL sides without a league victory this season, and four of them are in action today - Stoke, Southampton, Reading and Sunderland. Now would be a very good time to pick up their first three points.
-
1139:
Morning all. Open up today's papers and you could be forgiven for thinking there is no football happening until Sunday. You would be wrong.
Talk of Liverpool's game against Manchester United at Anfield tomorrow dominates the weekend sporting agenda, for a multitude of important reasons, but we still have lots to look forward today. Oh yes.
