Crawley Town ended Carlisle United's four-game unbeaten league run thanks to goals from Nathan Byrne and Nicky Adams in a 2-0 win at Brunton Park.

The home side had chances through Danny Cadamarteri, on-loan Watford striker Joe Garner and James Berrett but were unable to find a way past Paul Jones.

Byrne broke the deadlock just after the hour, slipping the ball home after a jinking run on goal.

Adams made it two with 17 minutes left when his deflected shot creeped in.

Garner and substitute Mark Beck went close with late headers for the home side, but Crawley held on for three points.

Carlisle assistant manager Graham Kavanagh told BBC Radio Cumbria:

"We created as many chances as we probably have done all season. We got on the end of quite a few but we just couldn't seem to get that goal.

"We fought with the elements in the second half, and with the wind we thought we could dominate the game.

"The first goal's a sloppy goal to give away, which we're very disappointed about and we don't actually put the ball in the net, so it's a frustrating one.

"It's a difficult one to sum up because if you create that many chances in a game, you do expect to win."

Crawley Town manager Richie Barker told BBC Sussex:

"It wasn't the team's best performance but if you're going to win games, you're going to have to win when you're not at your best.

"We are not even 10 games in to the season but we haven't had any bad runs yet."
