As it happened

  1. 1840:

Craig Levein's dark shades may have shielded his eyes from the Hampden glare but it won't have saved his ears from the criticism he and his team received in the wake of the goalless draw against Serbia.

  2. 1841:

Levein insists that the point from Saturday's game may prove crucial come the end of the campaign. Nevertheless, he's made three changes for tonight's game against Macedonia at Hampden.

No, Andy Murray won't play just off of Kenny Miller. But Jamie Mackie, Shaun Maloney and James Forrest have come in for Charlie Adam, Robert Snodgrass and Steven Naismith.

Will that mean a 4-4-2 formation rather than 4-1-4-1?

With two points already dropped, the Scots have unleashed some attacking talent - minus Jordan Rhodes - to face Macedonia.

  3. 1843:

Will the Tartan Army have something tangible to roar about under the Hampden floodlights?

Are you heading to Hampden? Watching it down the local or sporadically from behind the couch?

And you can text 80295 with your tactical chat...

  4. 1845:

A couple of early tweets on Scotland's three changes...

Christopher Palmer: "Little bit more attacking but still feel we'd cause more problems with 2 up front."

Matt Adams: "Don't rate Jamie Mackie, but apart from that, good choice."

  5. 1847:
    TEAM NEWS

Scotland: McGregor, Dixon, Berra, Webster, Hutton, Caldwell, Maloney, Morrison, Mackie, Forrest, Miller.

  6. 1849:

Motherwell midfielder Keith Lasley: "Man points taking a doing again its Week 2 of Cook School tonight. Can you keep me updated on ALL Scotland's goals as they go in? #Lasterchef"

Do Scotland have a couple of goals in the oven?

  7. 1851:

Scotland manager Craig Levein has been speaking to the ubiquitous Sportsound pundit Chick Young about his team changes...

  8. 1852:
    Scotland manager Craig Levein

"Macedonia play very narrow and it'll be difficult to play through the middle of them. That's why we've brought in Forrest and Mackie.

"It was a tiredness thing with (Charlie Adam) and Naisy is the same. I feel he can maybe help us coming off the bench. I think James Forrest's pace will be important tonight.

"Looking back, (to the Serbia game) I maybe should've made changes 10 to 15 minutes earlier.

"We got a point against a decent side and there's still 27 points to play for. Yet, some people have us out; it's nuts."

  9. 1854:
    Craig Levein continued:

"Macedonia will sit in and hit us on the counter. We'll need to be patient and if we win the game in the last minute, it's the same as winning it in the first.

"This is a game we're looking to win and improve as the tournament goes on.

"We'd love the three points. I can understand the fans singing for Jordan Rhodes coming on but it's the 11 on the pitch that are the most important.

"Unity is really important to me and we desperately want to put on a show tonight."

  10. 1855:

Macedonia, who lost 1-0 against Croatia in their opening match in Group A, have no fresh injury concerns.

Midfielder Velice Sumulikoski, of Chinese Superleague side Tianjin Teda, is available after serving the last game of a suspension.

Zulte Waregem striker Aleksandar Trajkovski was switched to the Under-21s and Vardar midfielder Ostoja Stjepanovikj did not travel because of visa issues, but neither featured against Croatia.

Scotland's defence will be wary of the threat posed by Napoli striker Darko Pandev, who has scored 25 goals for the national side.

  11. 1857:

Jack in Dundee to 80295: "If Craig Levein gets it wrong tonight he will be in real trouble. Especially given his ludicrous comments about Saturday's very average display."

  12. 1859:

Scotland striker Kenny Miller will captain the side tonight. Will the veteran hitman find the net? Is victory crucial to the national side's hopes of booking their place at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil?

  13. 1902:

Edinburgh Tom: "Scotland should play 7-6-7-5-2-6-3-6-6-2. It worked a treat last night. #bbcsportsound"

And Ivan Lendl to offer a few pearls of wisdom in the dressing room minutes before kick off?

  14. 1905:

Calm has been restored in the BBC Sportsound pundit nerve centre: they were locking horns over the wisdom of Blackburn's in-form striker Jordan Rhodes starting the game on the bench with Kenny Miller retaining his place.

Sparks flew but, thankfully, they have agreed to disagree...

  15. 1907:

Paul Bates: "Don't understand how Miller gets into the team instead of Rhodes or McCormack. Don't see many goals in the starting 11"

Keith Bowie: "Was at Andy Murray match last night..just coming down from that high now have to deal with the footy team...therapy here I come!"

  16. 1909:

Warby in Edinburgh by text: "I have just lost faith in Craig Levien and as an admirer of him as a player and manager of Hearts that hurts! Why oh why, oh why, has he gone with Kenny Miller up front? A player that is a bit past his best! No complaints over Kenny's effort or dedication to Scotland. Start Rhodes and go for the jugular!"

  17. 1911:

Can Scotland can bottle some of the Andy Murray magic that lit up the Big Apple last night and amazed the Flushing Meadows crowd?

Will Sir Sean Connery be pictured in the Hampden stand tonight? Will Kevin Spacey be behind the dugout? We need celebrity spotters...

  18. 1914:

From Graeme in the north stand to 80295: "Regardless of the front man, you look at the two sides and Scotland have the better, more experienced players. We need to perform."

  19. 1916:
BBC Sportsound pundit Willie Miller on Scotland changes

"It was the area (of the team) Craig had to change because he felt they didn't perform to the best of their abilities.

"You want to give the opposition respect but not too much. We sat off Serbia and hopefully we'll score goals tonight."

  20. 1918:

Bob in Dunfermline: "It's not the fact that we don't want Kenny Miller to start, it is Craigs Levein's reluctance to change things when it aint working. He always waits till last minute. His subs were spot on in Saturday's game,j ust everyone knew it was needed with at least 30 minutes to go. Delighted Charlie Adam out, why on earth does he have to take every free kick, corner etc? I wouldn't let him take a throw-in, the most over-rated player I have had the misfortune to suffer."

  21. 1922:
    LINE-UPS

SCOTLAND: McGregor, Hutton, Dixon, Berra, Caldwell, Forrest, Maloney, Webster, Miller (Cpt), Morrison, Mackie. Subs: Marshall, Hanley, Rhodes, Adam, Snodgrass, Naismith, Cowie, Dorrans, McCormack, Samson (Gk), Foster, Phillips

MACEDONIA: Bogatinov, Georgievski, Popov, Noveski, Shikov, Trichkovski, Pandev (Cpt), Gligorov, Demiri, Ibraimi, Ivanovski. Subs: Pachovski, Naumovski, Mojsov, Grncharov, Ristiko, Tasevski, Lazevski, Hasani, Gjorgiev, Shumulikoski

  22. 1924:

Ronnie in Glasgow: "Proud of Andy after all the heartache, adversity breeds character, let's keep the feelgood factor going tonight!"

  23. 1927:

Robert Ryan: "Not keen on Mackie, think he's the #English (I mean #Scottish) poor man's Nacho Novo: high work-rate, poor touch... #bbcsportsound"

  24. 1930:

Speaking to "Chico" earlier, Scotland manager Craig Levein stressed the need for patience tonight. He believes Macedonia will sit in and attempt to frustrate the Scots before hitting them on the break.

Could US Open champion Andy Murray use his racket to good effect and swat away any dangerous Goran Pandev shots?

  25. 1932:

How are the nerves bearing up? Must confess my earlier tiredness - having stayed up to watch Andy Murray's thrilling victory - has been replaced by a gnawing anxiety about tonight's game.

Scotland are going to win this, aren't they?

  26. 1934:

BBC Sportsound asked a number of Scotland supporters heading to Hampden whether they remained supportive of manager Craig Levein. They all agreed they were and urged their fellow fans to get behind the national boss.

Mike in Aberdeen: "Well done BBC, the interview of those fans opinions is real life....the vicious anti-Levein rubbish is internet trolls! When are the media going to realise, parasites stirring up hatred on the internet are NOT worthy of news!"

  27. 1937:

Steven Harkins: "Scotland fans need to stop criticising and get behind the team. Too much negativity on Miller + expectation on Rhodes. Faith!"

Craig Harvie: "Steady team selection from Levein! Steady won't get us into Brazil! #bbcsportsound"

  28. 1939:

Edinburgh Tom: "Some are saying if we don't beat Macedonia we'll not get 2 Brazil. I think they're nuts.#bbcsportsound2

Maybe if we were playing Macadamia we'd have a better chance? Any more nutty references ahead of kick-off?

    The visitors BUTTERNUT win tonight...

  29. 1941:

One change to the Macedonian line up to report: Mirko Ivanovski of Astra Ploiesti replaces Maribor's Agim Ibraimi up front.

  30. 1943:

Aaron Bernardo: "When I entered the room Andy_M lost a game. Therefore. tonight I'll be locking myself in the car with earmuffs."

Make sure you're not wearing Craig Levein-style Roy Orbison shades or you won't be able to open the door in the first place...

  31.
    GOAL- SERBIA 1-0 WALES (KOLAROV)

World Cup qualification Group A rivals Serbia draw first blood as Manchester City full-back Aleksandar Kolarov curls a beautiful free-kick into the top corner.

  32. 1947:

Chris, in the East Stand at Hampden: "I think we will win tonight. Miller to score. As for Rhodes do people not think that maybe there is a reason Levein isn't starting him? I've heard from a source close to the dressing room that Rhodes has asked for a bit of protection from Levein and wants to be eased in slowly. Let's back the boys and forget moaning about the manager for 90 minutes."

  33. 1949:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont in Hampden

"Hampden is gently filling up as kick-off approaches but it looks as though it'll be a fair distance short of capacity.

"Scotland failed to capture the fans' imagination on Saturday and that's clearly affected the turnout tonight. The players must know they need to come out of the blocks quickly and get the crowd behind them."

  34. 1952:

Shaun Clark: "I think Scotland have a very very strong side on paper; maybe it's the formation??"

  35. 1953:

Croatia have gone 1-0 up against Belgium and Serbia have doubled their lead at home to Wales.

  36. 1956:

With the national anthems out of the way, get a comfy seat and prepare for kick off...

  37. 1959:

We're under way at Hampden and the Tartan Army are in fine voice.

  38. 2000:

"We'll walk a million miles for one of your goals," sing the Scotland fans. Great atmosphere inside the national stadium despite a fair number of empty seats.

  39. 2001:

And US champion Andy Murray's name reverberates around Hampden following his heroics in New York. Wonder what odds you'd get on the Dunblane man being first scorer and 2-1 Scotland?

  40. 2002:

Scotland captain Kenny Miller spins round Macedonia's Sikov but is chopped down in the process. An early free-kick for the hosts...

  41. 2004:

The hosts fashion the first chance of the game: Alan Hutton finds Kenny Miller and the striker's dink enables Gary Caldwell to fire in a 25-yard shot that misses the target.

Promising stuff, though, from Craig Levein's men.

  42. 2005:

What was that I was saying? Macedonia, with their first foray forward, put Scotland under real pressure and Trickovski's shot is deflected wide for a corner.

Nervy moments for the hosts but it remains goalless after seven minutes.

  43. 2006:

Oh, Kenny Miller. An inviting ball played into the back post by Jamie Mackie catches the veteran striker on his heels and Macedonia repel the danger. Howls of anguish from the Scotland fans...

  44. 2007:

Sam in Derby: "Scotland MUST win tonight - there can be no excuses."

  45. 2008:
    GOAL- SCOTLAND 0-1 MACEDONIA (NOVESKI)

Disaster for Scotland. The visitors enjoy a great couple of minutes against a jittery Scotland rearguard and Trickovski's low cross is rifled home by Noveski, who judging by the replays, looks at least a yard offside.

  46. 2009:

The Tartan Army seem momentarily stunned by that goal, not unlike the static Scotland defence. Craig Levein comes to the edge of his technical area to roar some tactical instructions to his shell-shocked troops.

  47. 2011:

Goran Pandev, the Napoli striker, is justifying his number 10 jersey as he begins to thread passes to team-mates and pull the strings on the immaculate Hampden turf.

Thought Macedonia were going to sit in and try to frustrate the Scots? The visitors, 97th in the world rankings, don't look as though they should be 50 places below Craig Levein's side...

  48. 2012:

Robert Ryan: "I'm certainly not going to moan about the goal, never have complained about officials like some old woman. #scotland #bbcsportsound"

  49. 2014:

BBC Sportsound pundit Willie Miller is urging Scotland to sharpen up their passing. A dazed hush has enveloped the national stadium.

  50. 2015:

More concern for Scotland as the visitors establish a zest and rhythm to their passing, Ibraimi flashes a 20-yard shot wide of Allan McGregor's goal.

Can I watch the rest of the first half from behind the couch please?

  51. 2017:

Boos from the Scotland fans as Ibraimi takes a great touch on the edge of the area but his shot lacks conviction. The Scots need to raise the tempo and get back into this game.

Meanwhile, Group A rivals Wales trail Serbia 3-1 and Croatia lead Belgium by a goal to nil.

  52. 2018:
    BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson

"That's three corners now and they got their goal from one. They're proving dangerous"

  53. 2020:

Scotland come roaring back, James Forrest sends in a delicious cross after good work by Jamie Mackie but James Morrison has a fresh air swipe and the chance is lost!

  54. 2021:
    YELLOW CARD

That's an eye-watering challenge. Agim Ibraimi earns a yellow card for an over-the-ball challenge on Paul Dixon.

  55. 2022:
    BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson

"That was the kind of shin-high challenge that can break a leg. Paul Dixon can count himself lucky not to be more seriously injured"

  56. 2023:

Before Scotland's double header against Serbia and Macedonia, it was the Serbs who were widely tipped to prove the more dangerous opponents. But Macedonia, worryingly, are playing some great stuff and look dangerous with every foray into Scottish territory.

  57. 2025:

Ruridh Allen: "You would think that the Scottish team would draw some inspiration from another brilliant Scot... Apparently not. Rubbish #bbcsportsound"

  58. 2026:
    BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont

"Hampden is not a happy place right now. The supporters are unwilling to accept watching their side outplayed by a team ranked 50 places below them. Every Macedonia attack brings a massive chorus of boos for the Scots."

  59. 2028:

What a save! Allan McGregor prevents a rampant Macedonia from doubling their lead, denying Ibraimi with a sharp save with his legs.

  60. 2029:

Andy Webster flashes a header wide of Bogatinov's goal. If only Scotland had someone with the composure of number 10 Pandev, who is proving a real thorn in Scotland's side.

  61. 2031:

Shaun Maloney has a free-kick about 20 yards from goal...

  62. 2032:

... the pint-sized Wigan midfielder's effort is parried by Bogatinov and the visitors clear the danger. Scotland are in desperate need of a wee bit of magic.

  63. 2033:

James Morrison has possession midway inside Macedonia's half but is faced by a sea of red jerseys; not enough movement from his Scotland team-mates and another move fizzles out.

Wide-eyed disbelief among Scottish ranks; manager Craig Levein looks dismayed on the sidelines.

  64. 2034:

Willie from Newmachar: "If anyone can explain to me why Levein thinks Berra and Webster are internationals send me a postcard? And Alan Hutton who nobody wants to sign is first choice? Take those glasses off and see the real picture. Mccormack and Rhodes on please."

  65. 2035:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Hampden

"Shaun Maloney and Jamie Mackie are doing their best to lift Scotland, but they're not getting a lot of help. And once again Craig Levein has to be thankful to Allan McGregor for keeping the score down."

  66. 2036:

Macedonia are forced into a change, the impressive number 7 Trickovski is stretchered off injured and is replaced by Hasani.

Will that change disrupt the visitors? Scotland are lacking a swagger and confidence to get on the ball and give Macedonia's defence something to think about.

  67. 2038:

Macedonian substitute Hasani goes into the book for a scything challenge on Alan Hutton. But the Scots once again fail to profit from an enterprising position. The paint will be stripped off the walls in the home dressing room at half-time unless the Scots can carve out a quickfire double before the break.

  68. 2041:
GOAL- SCOTLAND 1-1 MACEDONIA (KENNY MILLER)

Scotland are level. A wonderful through ball from James Morrison plays in Jamie Mackie and his inch-perfect cross for captain Kenny Miller is rifled home. Relief sweeps the national stadium...

  69. 2042:
    BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson

"There's no better time to get a goal if you're Craig Levein. The first half hasn't been good enough."

  70. 2043:

Phil in Dundee: "Kenny Miller is the best striker in the world! Why did we ever doubt him?"

  71. 2044:

David Thorburn: "At least I know that I don't have to worry about saving up for a trip to Brazil"

Harry Mac: "Wowser - we have equalised against Macedonia #bbcsportsound"

  72. 2046:
    HALF-TIME- SCOTLAND 1-1 MACEDONIA

Kenny Miller's goal sees Scotland go into the break all-square but Macedonia could easily have added to Noveski's early strike. Scotland manager Craig Levein won't be a happy camper; nor are the disgruntled Tartan Army.

  73. 2048:

Robbie Jordan: "Looking a bit better since the goal, poor start but high hopes for the second half. C'mon Scotnight! #bbcsportsound"

Scott Pairman: "Disgusted with the Scotland supporters booing. What is that going to achieve? Get behind the team"

Craig Campbell: "Hi, welcome to Hampden, Macedonia. The home of Macedon.. um, Scottish Football. Scotland need to up their game tremendously."

  74. 2050:

What will Craig Levein be saying to his troops at half-time? The hairdryer may be getting a bit of overtime. Surely Scotland will look hungrier in the second half?

  75. 2051:
    BBC Sportsound's Steven Thompson

"As soon as we scored, you could see the crowd lifted. I think Scotland were taken aback by the quality shown by Macedonia."

  76. 2052:

  77. 2053:

Gordon Murdie: "Following Scotland in the World Cup Finals is so much cheaper than it used to be"

  78. 2054:
    BBC Scotland's Jonathan Sutherland

"Scotland playing at a funereal pace, need more zip. Nervy. Need one of the players to inspire the team and fans, perhaps Forrest can do it."

  79. 2056:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Hampden

"I put it to Craig Levein yesterday that the players should show a bit more swagger and self-belief. He agreed, but they didn't do that until the last 10 minutes of that half, and that's when they started to look dangerous. Got to be more of that second half."

  80. 2102:

Jonathan Boyle: "I literally have no idea how Scotland can be so poor. Such a good group of promising kids. Must be the Scottish mentality #bbcsportsound"

  81. 2104:

We're under way in the second half, can Scotland find their feet and form?

  82. 2105:

bringthemonjpn: "I would bring on Naismith for Mackie to give us a bit more leverage in the 50/50s."

Alan Carrie: "The goal should not disguise the fact (Kenny Miller) is past it and someone else should be playing! #bbcsportsound #Scotland"

  83. 2106:

Scotland left back Paul Dixon, showing no signs of that earlier fierce challenge by Ibraimi, tests Bogatinov with a low, curling drive. The Scots have their tails up here...

  84. 2108:

The second half is only three minutes old but the game is stretched as both teams chase a second goal. Compulsive if harrowing viewing for Scotland fans.

  85. 2110:

Jordan Armitage: "To put things in context, we have a population of around 5.5m people, 2010 World Cup semi-finalists have 3.5m people. #grim #bbcsportsound"

  86. 2111:

Scotland spurn another corner as Macedonia clear their lines. These are nervous, nervous times.

    Meanwhile, Serbia lead Wales 5-1.

  87. 2112:

Every ball into the Scotland penalty area has me twitching like Chief Inspector Dreyfuss in the Pink Panther.

  88. 2113:

Malcolm Harvey: "Ouch. We thought 0-0 with Serbia was bad. And it was. But we didn't get cuffed 5-1. Though we probably will over there."

  89. 2115:
    HITS THE WOODWORK

And breathe. Georgievski sees his shot blocked by Paul Dixon after a flowing Macedonia move, then the substitute Hasani rattles the post with a rasping drive. Nearly lost my false teeth there. What drama; it remains 1-1. Just.

  90. 2117:

Scotland manager Craig Levein shuffles his pack: goalscorer Kenny Miller is replaced by Charlie Adam. The Stoke City midfielder is on a matter of seconds before icing Goran Pandev as the number 10 tore into Scotland territory. Nerves. Shot. To. Pieces.

  91. 2119:

Euan Bell: "I can only assume that Adam, Naismith, Snodgrass are carrying slight knocks to have been dropped to the bench. #baffled"

Craig Levein said before the game that Adam and Naismith were tired and Snodgrass was on the bench because he wanted more pace in the side.

  92. 2120:
    BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont

"That substitution of Charlie Adam for Kenny Miller doesn't change the system Scotland are playing, but the rumblings among the fans suggest they wanted something more attack-minded."

  93. 2121:

Serbia are now 6-1 up against a frazzled Wales. Is Robbie Savage in goal for the visitors?

  94. 2122:

Graeme MacIntosh: "So we're at home, and we take off striker for midfielder is Levein playing for a draw slightly baffled here #bbcsportsound"

Iain Sproule: "Why are your nerves shot? It's not a drama, it's a Scotland game. You should come to expect us "up against it" with the wee teams"

  95. 2124:

The Scotland fans get the substitute they crave, Jordan Rhodes trots on for James Morrison. Can the Scots somehow win this game?

  96. 2125:

What a chance! Jordan Rhodes comes within a whisker of heading Scotland in front, stooping down to guide a Charlie Adam cross agonisingly wide of goal. The Blackburn striker has lifted the entire stadium...

  97. 2127:
    BBC Sportsound pundit Willie Miller

"We are very fortunate to still be in this game. It should be beyond us given the opportunities Macedonia have had. Craig Levein had to do something and now the fans have got their way"

  98. 2128:

The Scotland fans try to lift the side; the next 20 minutes could prove crucial to Scotland's chances of making an impression in 2014 World Cup qualifying Group A.

Craig Levein and his backroom staff are deep in discussion as to the best form of attack.

  99. 2130:

Allan McGregor to the rescue again! The Besiktas goalkeeper thwarts Ivanovski after the Macedonia striker was played in beautifully by man-of-the-match contender Pandev.

  100. 2131:

Robert Ryan: "Great save from McGregor, should have been 2-1 to Macedonia for sure as they've came closer. #scotland #bbcsportsound"

Gordon MacIntosh: "Brilliance of Andy Murray #champion last night! Returned to normal Scottish dillusions of adequacy tonight #bbcsportsound"

Arnie: "Ross McCormack has been brilliant for Leeds so far this season..."

  101. 2132:

Macedonia number 10 Goran Pandev - yes, that man again - orchestrates another attack for the visitors but Scotland keeper Allan McGregor - yes, him again - claims a corner.

We've got 15 minutes remaining for either side to score a dramatic winner...

  102. 2134:

Winger James Forrest whips in an inviting cross to the back post but substitute Jordan Rhodes can't get his noggin on it. Steven Naismith is on for Jamie Mackie as Scotland probe for an opening.

  104. 2137:

Alex Robertson: "Awaiting online updates in Dubai Airport isn't as painful as being there! Is this #leveinslaststand. We Have A Dream"

Don't let that plane leave the runway until Scotland have scored the winner!

  105. 2138:

James from Hamilton: "One one with the Mighty Macedonia! What a world class outfit we are (not). Levien must go"

David Robertson: "I think the fact that Serbia are tearing Wales apart makes our result on Saturday even more dissapointing! We should have taken the three points which where there for the taking, as Serbia will be a different proposition at home!"

  106. 2140:

Scotland are getting the ball forward as quickly as possible but their attacks, so far, are lacking the craft to pierce this resolute Macedonia rearguard. Seven minutes plus added time remaining at an emotionally taut Hampden.

  107. 2142:

Alan Hutton rampages down the right and his cross eventually finds its way to Shaun Maloney but Scotland are unable to profit.

Macedonia aren't committing as many men forward: are they content to leave Glasgow with a point?

  108. 2144:

Craig Campbell: "The annoying thing is, no Scotland team should struggle to perform well on home soil in front of that many fans."

  109. 2145:

Steven Naismith feeds Allan Hutton but the full-back loses possession and Macedonia surge forward; Pandev's shot is deflected by Christophe Berra and a relieved Allan McGregor collects.

  110. 2146:

Two minutes plus added time remaining at a quiet Hampden. The earlier hope following Kenny Miller's equaliser has been replaced by a stunned acceptance. Scotland assistant boss Peter Houston said four points from the opening two games was the target. Are the Scots going to have to settle for two?

  111. 2148:

We've got three minutes of added time. The red shirts of Macedonia are retaining possession and fizzing the ball about the pitch with relative ease. Scotland need to bare their teeth.

  112. 2150:

Charlie Adam's corner is punched clear by Bogatinov and Macedonia clear the danger. A ripple of boos from inside the national stadium. Not long remaining...

  113. 2151:
    FULL-TIME- SCOTLAND 1-1 MACEDONIA

Manager Craig Levein claps his players but the Scotland fans show their displeasure with a chorus of boos. Shaun Maloney stares at the Hampden turf in disbelief.

  114. 2152:

Scotland have taken two points from a possible six. Two home games against Serbia and Macedonia fail to yield a victory; next up are trips to Wales and Belgium.

  115. 2153:

Andy in Nitshill: "Time for us to admit we just dont have quality to compete at any level now, sacking Craig Levein won't disguise the fact were now in the bottom tier of world football."

  116. 2155:

Frankie Miller's Caledonia booms out around an emptying Hampden as the Scotland players, heads bowed, trudge dejectedly up the tunnel.

A song that tugs at the old heart strings but a real flat note for Scotland tonight and a savage blow to our hopes of kicking up sand in Rio in 2014.

  117. 2156:
    Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor

"I don't think we started well and there wasn't a lot of movement off the ball. I thought their goal may have been offside.

"The boys can do better but you also need the correct decisions. It (qualification) will be difficult; we knew that but no-one should throw the towel in. We won't, and we've got eight games to go now."

  118. 2158:

Martin Finlayson in Edinburgh: "Craig Levein must take the brunt for the continuing lack of ambition he instills in the squad. We must change the management team now so at least there is a half chance of the campaign being salvaged."

Alan in Eyemouth: "2 home games ,2 points, man of match in both games, left back & goalkeeper & played 4-5-1 in both games for majority off it. Levein's competitive record is terrible. Time to do the right think Craig & say that you are just not good enough. Only 32,000 fans turned up & that says it all."

  119. 2200:

Scotbot: "#BBCSportsound ~ To Andy in Nitshill, how can we be in the bottom tier of football when our players ply their trade in the EPL & Chp'ship?"

Mair: "If it wasn't for Greegsy who knows what kind of mashing we would have got #bbcsportsound"

  120. 2202:
    BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson

"I dont' think it's right to be calling for the manager's head. Let's see where we are after the Wales and Belgium games. The players like Craig Levein's training methods and his manner; there isn't a magic wand unfortunately"

  121. 2204:
    Scotland manager Craig Levein

"I look at the league table and we're two points off the top. I'm disappointed but not disheartened.

"I'd hoped to have won the match and we could've been joint top."

  122. 2206:
    Craig Levein continued:

"The pressure is nothing compared to what I put on myself. I want to get Scotland to a major tournament, we can do better and I want us to do better in the next match.

"Every team can take points off of each other but we're still hanging in there. It's about being positive and looking forward to the next game."

  123. 2208:

Scotland face Wales in Cardiff on 12 October before facing a trip to Belgium four days later.

  124. 2210:

Gordon Penman: "The Scotland team are less than the sum of their parts. They need a bit of team mentality instilled in them."

bringthemonjpn: "Scottish fans already cancelling their pre-orders of beachwear"

Andy Pirie: "Levein out! It's not about the amount of points he's started this campaign achieving, it's the style he has adopted since day 1"

  125. 2213:

Barry in Aberdeen: "Did he seriously just say, we're two points off the top? Incredible. Utter disgrace."

Joe: "Football has become an embarrassment in Scotland. A bunch of overpaid, arrogant big-heads compared to the rugby, tennis and cycling stars...time to change the obsession in this country."

  126. 2215:

If you can bear to watch, there are highlights of the draw with Macedonia tonight on BBC One Scotland at 22:35 BST.

Your Call with Jim Traynor is getting under way on BBC Radio Scotland 810 MW.

How do you assess Scotland's chances in the group? Is there a tactical change you would make for next month's double header against Wales and Belgium?

Send me your views via text to 80295 or Twitter using #bbcsportsound or message @bbcthomasmcg

I'll keep the live text rumbling on until 23:00 BST.

  127. 2218:

Andy C: "A team with no heart and a coach with no idea. How can Levein think there were any positives tonight??"

Neil Jeffrey: "Levein has to go, he doesn't know how to put out an attacking team."

  128. 2224:

Anonymous: "If we can't beat Macedonia at hampden in a World Cup qualifier for 2014 we need to start building now for 2018 with a new manager"

David in Dunblane: "I can't believe we are talking about 'if we win in wales and belgium the group will have a different complexion'. We have to win our home games. Have to. Levein had us playing without a striker for 10 mins at 1-1. Disgusted by his decision making. And outplayed by arguably the two weakest teams? The Road to Rio looks like it's got quite a few potholes in it."

  129. 2226:
    BBC Scotland's Liam McLeod

"Craig Levein insists things are going well for Scotland, pointing out they are only two points off the top of the group with 8 to play"

  130. 2228:

Apart from goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who was superb in denying Macedonia a second goal, who impressed you for Scotland tonight?

  131. 2230:
    Scotland striker Kenny Miller

"It's not ideal, we set out to get six points and we've come away with two draws. We're bitterly disappointed because it was two home games and we've had good home form, but it's gone now.

"Saturday we felt we played well enough but tonight the performance was well below par.

"We need to play with a quicker tempo, we weren't up to speed in the first half and it took the goal to give us a little shake. The performance as a whole was not where we want to be and we paid the penalty for that."

  132. 2233:

Calum Wilson: "On Saturday I didn't think Levein's tactics werent that bad, Serbia are a decent side and the lone striker is okay. Tonight, however, we needed a more attacking team and although changes were made and more attacking players were playing, they were clearly told to play defensively. Currently we have one of the best attacking groups with Forrest, Naismith, Rhodes, Snodgrass, Maloney etc yet we continue to play too defensively. I think I was one of the last fans of Levein in Hampden tonight but unless he starts trying to win matches and playing attacking football he'll even have lost me."

Dave in Edinburgh: "I can't believe people are surprised at Macedonia's quality. Did they not draw with England a few years back. Remember some of these players would have played in a strong Yugoslavia side had it still been one nation."

  133. 2236:

Ruridh Allen: "For the last couple of years I have tried to be nice, but that line from Levein has done it for me. He is delusional."

  134. 2240:
    BBC Scotland's Chris McLaughlin

"Craig Levein says he's confident the fans are still behind him and his players"

  135. 2242:
    BBC Sportsound anchor Richard Gordon

"Another hugely disappointing performance and we were lucky to take a point. Massive improvement required in October double-header"

  136. 2245:

Anonymous: "2 Draws, 2 home games...Terrible, 4-5-1 these are the games Scotland need to win, terrible decisions made both in the formation and team selection. Kenny Miller and Naismith are way past their best yet Levein still feels he has to play them...All in all, awful performance!!!"

  137. 2250:

Calum, Kirkcaldy: "Well, that's another 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back! Caldwell is a waste of space in midfield. Something has to change!"

  138. 2300:

Scotland manager Craig Levein remains keen to accentuate the positive following draws against Serbia at Macedonia, stressing that his side are only two points off the top of Group A.

However, with trips to Wales and Belgium next month, the Scots will be desperate to string victories together to boost their chances of making the trip to Brazil in 2014.

And the boos of some fans inside Hampden signalled the Tartan Army's frustration.

Thanks for your company, we'll be back on Friday for Dundee Utd v Ross County and five SPL games on Saturday.

Hope you can join us then, cheers.
