So that's it for tonight then. Thanks for all your Tweets and texts.
Scotland are in action tomorrow and be sure to join us back here on Tuesday for another night of action, with England hosting Ukraine, Wales travelling to Serbia and Scotland playing Macedonia. See you then.

2200:
Is Tom Cleverley the future?
-
2200:
More from England manager Roy Hodgson, speaking after his team's 5-0 victory in Moldova: "Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had an excellent first half. He hasn't played much football, and we were worried about keeping him on too long - he wasn't as good in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the second half.
"Tom Cleverley was terrific through the 90 minutes. You can understand why Sir Alex Ferguson plays him so much. He came into a team alongside players such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard and didn't look out of place."
-
2157:
More from Chris Coleman after Wales's 2-0 defeat at home to Belgium: "I know the referee only has one look at it but I've watched the sending off time and time again and for me it is not a sending off.
"The free-kick for the second goal was never a free-kick and one or two challenges from them went unnoticed, so maybe the ref could have been kinder to us."
-
2157:
Wales boss Chris Coleman: "I am very very proud of the players, we knew it would be a tough game even if we were at full strength, which we weren't. Then we went down to 10 men and one or two questionable decisions went against us. But we dug deep, showed a lot of passion and organisation and I don't think the players can have given any more than they did."
-
2156:
England manager Roy Hodgson, speaking after his team's 5-0 win in Moldova: "In the first half, not only did we attack well but we defended well. We were quick to win the ball back when we didn't have it.
"Certainly 3-0 was a very pleasing scoreline at half-time. Even in the second half, we played some good football and scored two more goals. My only concern is the injury to John Terry. I don't think it's a very serious injury, but Tuesday is very close. I will have to wait and see what the doctors tell me."
-
2155:
Germany only beat the Faroe Islands 3-0 in the end, rather letting me down to be honest, while Abou Diaby's goal was enough for France to win in Finland.
-
2153:
Belgium defender Vincent Kompany after the 2-0 win over Wales: "It was not our best performance, but over the years with this team we have played so many good games without getting the result. To win 2-0 in Wales is a good result because plenty of teams will drop points here.
"I am not sure the sending off helped us too much because Wales were very organised at the back and fighting for every ball, and they had Gareth Bale on the counter-attack so it was still a very tricky game."
-
2152:
John Terry ended the game on the sidelines as he limped off with an ankle injury, and Roy Hodgson has just said that he may miss Tuesday's game against Ukraine.
-
2147:
Tom Cleverley, speaking after England's 5-0 win in Moldova: "The win's the important thing. A 5-0 victory anywhere is a good result. I'm happy.
"We all know where each other is in midfield, and we can all rotate it with the runs forward. So if Steve (Gerrard) or Frank (Lampard) goes forward, one of us will hang back."
-
2147:GET INVOLVED
Richard Daniels on Twitter: "Very hard done by! Wales were on par with Belgium in the first half. We couldn't keep the ball second half. Missed Allen."
Sam on Twitter: "Under Capello England would of made hard work beating Moldova, but Hodgson has got this team playing well and got the job done."
Dale A Palmer on Twitter: "That's why we're third in the world..."
-
2143:
Frank Lampard after England's 5-0 win in Moldova: "The key was the start. These can be tough places to come, and we were expected to win. But the way we started showed our intentions and we were comfortable at half-time.
"Tom Cleverley's a pleasure to play alongside. He's going to be part of the team for years to come. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brilliant in the first half too.
"We're always looking for ways to improve. We took our foot off the pedal in the second half. We need to keep it up for 90 minutes against Ukraine."
-
2138:
In the other game in England's Group H, Montenegro and Poland drew 2-2, which also helps England out.
-
2138:
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"We talked before the game about what was important - and first and foremost, it was the result. England played the first half with a good tempo, they went to kill Moldova off, and they kept going for it. They tried to pass the ball. On occasions, they maybe overdid it, but Tom Cleverley was exceptional in the first half, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was very bright and nobody had a bad game."
-
2138:
So then, what do we make of that? A very solid start from Roy Hodgson's England, who were excellent in the opening half hour and picked up again at the end.
Wales fans - feeling hard done by?
-
2136:FULL-TIME- Wales 0-2 Belgium
-
2136:
A flurry of late corners for Wales, in a spell started by some great work by Gareth Bale that sees him leave Marouane Fellaini for dead in the centre-circle. Bale surges forward before firing in a shot that is deflected wide. He hasn't given up yet, even if there are only seconds left in Cardiff.
-
2135:
A bit of bad news for Everton fans though - Fifa have refused to ratify the loan transfer of Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe from Club Brugge.
-
2134:
We are still playing in Cardiff.
-
2132:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in ChisinauFULL-TIME- Moldova 0-5 England"England were able to ease their way into the 2014 World Cup campaign in Chisinau. Just about as straightforward as it gets. Ukraine will be a tougher test at Wembley on Tuesday but this was the ideal start for Roy Hodgson and his team."
-
2131:GET INVOLVED
Tom, Teddington on text: "They think it's Moldova, it is now", wasn't it? 5-0, decent performance against weak opposition. Done what's expected. Lovely."
-
2130:
Thomas Vermaelen almost makes it 3-0 to Belgium with a piledriver which flies just over the bar.
-
2127:
England are pouring forwards, and Theo Walcott could make it six but he doesn't catch his shot properly and it's straight at the Moldovan keeper.
-
2125:GOAL- Wales 0-2 Belgium - Jan Vertonghen (82 mins)
One for Spurs fans to savour - but this is harsh on Wales. A soft free-kick is awarded and Jan Vertonghen hammers the ball into the corner from 25 yards with his left peg. Smashed in.
-
2123:GOAL- Moldova 0-5 England - Leighton Baines (83 mins)
Ashley Cole must be gutted. He misses one game and his stand-in nets, as Leighton Baines sees his free-kick deflect into the corner off the shoulder of Alexandru Gatcan. It was a huge deflection as well.
-
2122:
A brief spell of pressure from Moldova, who have been a real threat from corners all night. Joe Hart looks troubled by one ball in but John Terry is able to head it clear in the end.
-
2121:
Remember earlier on when Republic of Ireland scored twice in the last minute to come from behind and beat Kazakhstan 2-1? It has moved their coach Miroslav Beranek to produce a brilliant line.
He said: "Football showed its brutal face to us tonight."
Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni admitted his side were lucky. He said: "I think it's honest to say that we have been a little bit lucky in this game.
"I think we had a psychological block after we conceded because usually we have a good reaction when that happens but we didn't today."
-
2118:Alistair Bruce-Ball, BBC Sport at the Cardiff City Stadium
"Ten-man Wales soaking up loads of pressure in this second half. If Wales get a point from this, it will be a fantastic result. I don't think that's going to happen."
-
2117:SUBSTITUTION
A double switch for Wales, and some fresh legs in attack. Hal Robson-Kanu is on for Simon Church and Sam Vokes is on for Steve Morison. They have 15 minutes to rescue what looks like an unlikely point for their side. The frustrating thing for Wales if they do lose this game is that Belgium do not look like a team that is the sum of their very expensive and highly rated parts - the game has been attack (Belgium) versus defence (Wales) since James Collins was sent off before the half-hour mark and Marc Wilmots' side have not created an awful lot.
-
2117:
It was a great hit by James Milner, nobody else seemed to want to hit it though. Credit that quartet for eventually finishing an incisive breakaway though.
-
2116:
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"England, against better opposition, wouldn't have got away with taking so long over that chance. But it was an excellent finish by Milner."
-
2114:GOAL- Moldova 0-4 England - James Milner (74 mins)
A fine team goal for England - eventually. Theo Walcott sprints clear before feeding Tom Cleverley. He should shoot, but comes inside and then finds Danny Welbeck. He should shoot but plays it out to Walcott, who should shoot but squares it to James Milner on the edge of the box - and he does shoot, thumping home his first goal for England.
-
2112:
Alan Green on BBC Radio 5 live"The big question is: Who will finish bottom of Group H? Will it be Moldova or San Marino? And who cares?"
-
2112:GET INVOLVED
Luke Benfield on Twitter: "As good as the cross was for Frank Lampard's second goal, I still fail to see why Glen Johnson is first choice over Kyle Walker."
Phillip Leigh on Twitter: "England have got far too complacent since half time. They need to cut out the sloppy passing and stop being so casual!"
Matt Volpi on Twitter: "By virtue of beating Moldova, England will now be top of the Fifa rankings, as well as the golf and rugby ones."
-
2110:PENALTY APPEAL
Swedish referee Stefan Johannesson is not making himself any more popular in Cardiff. Wales have just had a big shout for a penalty, or at least a free-kick, when Vincent Kompany barges Simon Church over as they chase a bouncing ball right on the edge of the Belgium area. Johannesson gives nothing, and Wales boss Chris Coleman is doing his best impression of a smouldering volcano as he sits, arms crossed, in his dug-out. I wouldn't stand too close to him because he looks like he might explode soon.
-
2109:
Jermain Defoe, by the way, now has 17 goals in an England shirt - the same as David Beckham.
-
2108:SUBSTITUTION FOR ENGLAND- Danny Welbeck on for Jermain Defoe
Here's the third and final change for England as Defoe ends his 50th cap.
-
2106:GET INVOLVED
Matthew Vernon on Twitter: "Re: Adam Duckett (2059). Putting Blackpool (top of Championship) in the same league as Tranmere and Gillingham's a bit disrespectful, no?"
Mark Doughty on Twitter: "Re: Adam Duckett. I dunno, Moldova look better than Liverpool have so far this season!"
Tom Coates on Twitter: "At this rate, I can see the England game being 3-3!"
-
2106:
Wales threaten from the resulting corner too, with only some last-ditch defending stopping Ashley Williams from getting on the end of it, and I think we can add set-pieces to Wales' hopes of salvaging something from their night.
-
2106:GREAT SAVE!
While the score is 1-0, Wales still have hope. Especially when Gareth Bale is on the pitch too. He wins a free-kick about 30 yards out after running at the Belgium defence and takes it himself, firing in a Cristiano Ronaldo-style toe-poke that is zipping into the top corner before Thibaut Courtois get across to claw it to safety - what a save that was
-
2105:
James Milner is plugging away down that right-hand side, with Theo Walcott playing alongside Jermain Defoe in attack. Milner beats his man again and fires in a cross but Moldova get it away well. Into the last 25 minutes now.
-
2102:
More Belgium pressure. Romelu Lukaku, on as a second-half substitute for Kevin Mirallas, has just headed over after getting on the end of another inviting cross from Dries Mertens. Jan Vertonghen has also wasted a decent opening, after running into the area down the left but he fired a low shot into the side netting. Wales' 10 men are not seeing much of the ball, much less threatening an equaliser.
-
2101:
Michael Carrick gifts the ball away with a very slack header and England are almost caught on the break. This is a more familiar England away performance, it's all gone a bit careless.
-
2101:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"All gone a little low-key here in Chisinau. England need to pick the pace up again and take the opportunity to make this scoreline even more emphatic. Presumably the introduction of Theo Walcott has that in mind."
-
2059:GET INVOLVED
Adam Duckett on Twitter: "England look their best for ages but Moldova are minnows. If England are Chelsea who are Moldova? Blackpool, Tranmere, Gillingham?"
Alex Clark on Twitter: "I think it's been a pretty poor England performance so far. Giving the ball away too much."
Mc Bachmann on Twitter: "Re: 2038. Pre-qualifying for Germany then?"
Ben Parks on Twitter: "Re: 2051. Nielsen didn't play that game, it was Arni Arason. Nielsen came on as a sub v Arsenal in 2010."
-
2058:SUBSTITUTION FOR ENGLAND- Theo Walcott on for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsenal man on for Arsenal man.
-
2056:
Here's the first signs of sloppy play from England as they are caught in possession on the edge of their own area and almost get into trouble. They haven't found that early tempo again as yet.
-
2055:
It has been all Belgium so far in the second half. No clear chances for Marc Wilmots' side yet but Eden Hazard has fired a low shot straight at Boaz Myhill after working himself space to shoot on the left-hand side of the box. Wales' only chance of salvaging something from this one appears to be to keep the score at 1-0 and catching the visitors on the break.
-
2052:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has looked very sharp tonight, and after a good run and pass James Milner rather wastes a crossing chance on the right. I fancy Theo Walcott for a run out at some point.
-
2051:ROUND-UP
The biggest shock from the other qualifiers going on around Europe is probably that Germany are only 1-0 up against the Faroe Islands in Hannover, thanks to Mario Gotze's fine solo strike that saw him beat four men, Ricardo Villa-style.
Germany have been completely dominant but ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen, currently without a club, has made a series of superb saves to keep the scoreline down. You might remember Nielsen playing a blinder for City when they came back from 3-0 down to beat Tottenham 4-3 with 10 men in the FA Cup in 2004, so let's not write the Faroe Islands off just yet.
Elsewhere, France are leading Finland through Abou Diaby's goal, Robin van Persie has put the Netherlands ahead against Turkey and Italy's Argentina-born striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo has put Italy in front after they fell behind to Stanislav Manolev's goal for Bulgaria.
-
2050:
Belgium have started in control in Cardiff. Any sort of result for Wales from here would be a brilliant effort.
-
2048:GET INVOLVED
Gordon in Edinburgh on text: "You lot are hilarious. One good half against Moldova and all your players are class and clearly international class. Will you say the same after the next 45 minutes of drudgery against a proper team? Which will come soon. No."
-
2047:KICK-OFF- Wales 0-1 Belgium
And play is back in Cardiff.
-
2046:
Frank Lampard is wearing the captain's armband now and will have his eye on completing a first hat-trick for England. Let's have a hatful lads...
-
2045:KICK-OFF- Moldova 0-3 England
The second half is under way.
-
2045:SUBSTITUTION FOR ENGLAND- Michael Carrick on for Steven Gerrard
One change at the break for England, with Michael Carrick coming on.
-
2045:
England's players are back out on the pitch. Will Roy rest a load of players now or push on for more goals?
-
2038:
Germany have let me down so far, they are only 1-0 up at home to the Faroe Islands, while England pour on the goals. A role reversal?
-
2038:GET INVOLVED
Ian Dreelan on Twitter: "Those saying the old guard are doing well seem to be overlooking the fact that Cleverly and Oxlade-Chamberlain are adding a tempo others can't."
Connor Stallard on Twitter: "Tom Cleverley is definitely a future England number 10. He fits the shirt very well."
Tom Castle on Twitter: "What would Paolo di Canio say about Moldova's first half?"
-
2036:GET INVOLVED
Chris from London on text: "Most impressive so far is the movement off the ball, working hard to get the ball back off Moldova before it reaches half way line and simple decision making, with the talent these players have doing all those makes it alot easier for them. Hence the goals and chances flowing!"
Ollie on text: "Is anyone else thinking that Defoe is far more reliable internationally than Rooney? Give him more of a chance."
Will Rider on text: "Frank Lampard is unique in his ability to control the midfield with steady passing, playing in a deep-lying role in the centre of the park, only then to dart into the box with a lethal approach to finishing. Until England find another player with similar qualities, stop moaning on about the need for youth and appreciate how lucky we are to have a player like him. Class."
-
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"A fantastic start. England came out really well, on the front foot. They got an early goal - a fortunate penalty - but they have really gone for it and deserve to be 3-0 up."
-
2033:GET INVOLVED
Matt Cartwright on Twitter: "Sounds like an excuse but the ref isn't doing Wales any favours tonight."
Paul Jenkins on Twitter: "Welsh player sent off. Who's the ref - Alain Rolland?"
-
2032:HALF-TIME- Wales 0-1 Belgium
A bad night for Wales boss Chris Coleman began when Joe Allen was too ill to play and got worse when James Collins was sent off for a late tackle after 25 minutes. Until then, his side had looked bright against the much-fancied Belgians but it has been a struggle since they went down to 10 men and it will be a big ask for them to recover from Vincent Kompany's goal for the visitors.
-
2032:
It's fair to say Wales boss Chris Coleman and the home fans are not big fans of Swedish referee Stefan Johannesson. A lot of decisions are going Belgium's way - Marouane Fellaini just shoved Ashley Williams out of the way to get on the end of a corner but no foul was given. Coleman is getting increasingly angry on the touchline, because it seems everything is against him tonight.
-
2030:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in ChisinauHALF-TIME- Moldova 0-3 England"England are outclassing the side ranked 141st in the world. Easy and emphatic so far but manager Roy Hodgson will stress there can be no easing off. More goals are here for the scoring in Chisinau."
-
2029:CLOSE!
Joe Hart comes out to claim another dangerous free-kick but he gets his angles wrong and ends up punching the ball behind for a corner. The ball in is again dangerous and Igor Armas gets a free header which is just wide. So close for Moldova.
-
2028:Alistair Bruce-Ball, BBC Sport at the Cardiff City Stadium
"It's looking an almost impossible task for Wales now. Vincent Kompany with a near-post header from a corner - we've seen him do that countless times for Manchester City."
-
2028:GET INVOLVED
Tom Dutton on Twitter: "Can we play Moldova in every game of the World Cup??"
Joseph Pritchard on Twitter: "How did Holland only score once in each game against these? Shocking defending and keeping."
Theo Bond on Twitter: "Get Milner off for Walcott. His pace will put this game into double figures!"
-
2026:GOAL- Wales 0-1 Belgium - Vincent Kompany (42 mins)
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany punishes Wales, who had just threatened through Gareth Bale, as he gets ahead of Darcy Blake to thump in a near-post header from a corner. Powerful finish.
-
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"Job done already for England here in Chisinau. The job now is take full toll of a demoralised Moldova side and rack up the goal difference. Perfectly understandably, England are in a different class to Moldova."
-
2022:GET INVOLVED
Wyatt Erskine on Twitter: "The Ox is having a great game."
Graham Jenkins on Twitter: "All the talk of young guns and it's the old guard doing the business."
Jon Evans on Twitter: "Already looking better than we did in qualifiers with Capello! We're not just scraping a 1-0 win!"
-
2021:
In Cardiff, it probably won't surprise you to hear that it has been all Belgium since James Collins was sent off. Wales are sitting back and defending deep and in numbers, but the Belgians are finding space on the flanks and curling in some decent crosses. They are creating chances now too - Dries Mertens has just curled a shot wide after cutting into the box. Wales have lost all three of their friendlies since Chris Coleman took charge, without scoring a goal. I think he would settle for a clean sheet in his first competitive game as boss.
-
2020:
Frank Lampard is up to 25 goals for England now by the way, he has moved ahead of Geoff Hurst on the all-time list and is one goal behind Bryan Robson.
-
2019:
Alan Green on BBC Radio 5 live"Moldova haven't shown anything at all. There are people who think there should be pre-qualifying in the World Cup for teams of that standard. This is a good case for that argument."
-
2018:
Cristiano Ronaldo has cheered up a but - he's just equalised for Portugal in Luxembourg.
-
2016:GOAL- Moldova 0-3 England - Jermain Defoe (32 mins)
England are flying now. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain carries the ball through the midfield, picks the through-pass perfectly and Jermain Defoe lashes in a low first-time shot at the near post which goes straight through Stanislav Namasco. The keeper will think he could do better but England don't care.
-
2015:
Tom Cleverley flashes a low shot just wide as England look to kill this one off.
-
2013:GOAL- Moldova 0-2 England - Frank Lampard (29 mins)
Lovely goal. Steven Gerrard lays the ball out wide to Glen Johnson on the right, the Liverpool man looks up to measure a perfect cross into the area where Frank Lampard is arriving on a trademark late burst and guides a header into the corner.
-
2012:GET INVOLVED
Dom Samways on Twitter: "Great tempo and movement - keep the initiative and try to build some goal difference. Moldova making England look very good."
James Elton on Twitter: "Best tempo I have ever seen an England team play with in forever! This could be a rout if they keep this up."
Will Moores on Twitter: "Suddenly when Eden Hazard is not surrounded by world beaters he looks average. Coincidence? I think not."
-
2012:Alistair Bruce-Ball, BBC Sport
"James Collins did jump in, he did miss the ball, he did make contact with the defender. It was with one boot rather than two, but the referee has seen that as a red card offence."
-
2010:RED CARD FOR WALES- James Collins
He had just come to Wales' rescue with a great header but now West Ham defender James Collins is the villain as he sees red. He slides in to try and tackle Guillaume Gillet but is very late and catches the Belgian high up on his shin. A dangerous tackle, and a red card.
-
2010:
England win a free-kick through another soft-looking handball. It's on the edge of the box, Frank Lampard rolls it into the path of skipper Steven Gerrard who crunches a rising drive which flies just over the bar. Close.
-
2007:
In Cardiff, Wales are offering a bit more in terms of penetration at the moment, mainly thanks to Gareth Bale. He has just dashed down the right flank, leaving Spurs team-mate Jan Vertonghen in his wake, and got along the Belgian by-line before clipping over a cross. If it had been a couple of yards lower it would have been perfect for Simon Church to head in from point-blank range… but, sadly for Chris Coleman's side, it flies out of play.
-
2006:
Moldova are having a decent spell now. England looked on a different level in that opening 15 minutes but the hosts are having a strong five minutes.
-
2006:
Luxembourg are beating Portugal. Madness.
Daniel Da Mota Alves has put them ahead. That really will make Cristiano Ronaldo sad.
-
2004:GET INVOLVED
Jamie Pragnell on Twitter: "Harsh penalty....not complaining though....can relax now!"
Chris Campbell on Twitter: "What a start! Lampard penalty, 1-0 England. Too early to say Brazil here we come?"
Gareth Brett on Twitter: "Edin Dzeko today scored more goals against Liechtenstein then he managed in his first 15 league games for Manchester City."
-
2003:
Frank Lampard's goal was the 100th penalty taken by England in internationals, and the 69th to be converted. A decent hit-rate that. Moldova then have their first sight of goal with a dipping 30-yard effort from Arthur Patras. It's a good hit but Joe Hart is able to let it go high and wide.
-
2001:
We have not seen much of an attacking threat from this star-studded Belgian side so far - they definitely prefer the patient passing approach, and it is all about possession from their point of view. All very pretty, but Wales are well organised at the back and keeping them at arm's length. Eden Hazard has not had the same impact we've seen in a Chelsea shirt yet.
-
2000:GET INVOLVED
Paul on text: "Don't make England sound good if we win because we should win. As for Gerrard he's gotta do something tonight. His last game for Liverpool, Diaby walked all over him."
I'll try not to Paul. Abou Diaby is on fire though. He's just scored for France.
-
1959:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"England completely dominating the early stages - hope the Moldovan players have not spent those bonuses they have been offered in their heads. Chisinau crowd seem undeterred and are still right behind their team."
-
1958:
Good save again to deny England a second. James Milner crosses from the right, Stanislav Namsco punches it feebly out to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the edge of the box but the keeper then recovers well to save the Arsenal man's volley.
-
1958:
A first sight of goal for Wales, after Steve Morison flicks on a high ball into the Belgium area. Thomas Vermaelen tries to head it back to Thibaut Courtois but David Edwards nips in to intercept and fires into the side-netting from a tight angle.
-
1955:GREAT SAVE!
Jermain Defoe again! Steven Gerrard plays Defoe in inside the area, he gets in a sharp left-footed shot but Moldova's number one Stanislav Namasco makes a very good save down to his left. This is a very good start from England.
-
1954:CLOSE!
Jermain Defoe should double England's lead. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - who has started very brightly - gets clear down the left and drills in a great ball across the goalmouth, a defender slips and the ball catches Defoe by surprise and he side-foots wide from four yards out. Big chance.
-
1953:
First sign of a threat from Belgium as new Everton signing Kevin Mirallas runs at the back four, but Darcy Blake gets across to cover.
-
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"It looks as if Tom Cleverley is playing in what amounts to a traditional number 10 role. Steven Gerrard is in a holding role, playing deeper, like a quarterback."
-
1952:YELLOW CARD FOR ENGLAND- Glen Johnson
Silly boy. Glen Johnson sees yellow for kicking the ball away.
-
1950:
In Cardiff, it's been a steady start in a fairly scrappy opening. No danger at either end as yet.
-
1950:
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"Perfect start for England. They were looking sharp - as if they meant business. The handball was a little harsh. Bulgaru put his hand across his chest and it hit him. But hopefully England can settle down now."
-
1948:GOAL- Moldova 0-1 England - Frank Lampard (4 mins)
Frank Lampard doesn't miss those. He buries his eighth penalty in an England shirt, which means he has now scored more spot kicks for his country than anyone else.
-
1947:PENALTY TO ENGLAND
Great start for England. James Milner crosses from the right, Tom Cleverley shoots and it strikes the hand of defender Simion Bulgaru. Penalty given.
-
1946:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shows his pace in a early burst down the left, where he is starting out. Tom Cleverley, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are all narrow in midfield in the opening seconds.
-
1945:KICK-OFF
We have kick-off in Moldova and Cardiff...
-
Alan Green on BBC Radio 5 live"We're told that Moldova are on for a bonus if they get a draw. They haven't scored a goal for a year. Anything other than an England win would be catastrophic.
"I'm surprised Michael Carrick isn't starting, but I'm pleased Tom Cleverley is, because he is part of England's future."
-
Danny Mills on BBC Radio 5 live"Like a lot of people, I expected Michael Carrick to start. But I think Roy Hodgson has made the right decision. What sort of message would it have sent to the other players to start someone who didn't want to be on the stand-by list for Euro 2012?"
-
1943:
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has claimed a hat-trick for Bosnia-Herzegovina against Liechtenstein. His team-mate Vedad Ibisevic has also just completed a treble, with Bosnia now 8-1 up.
-
1940:GET INVOLVED
Calum Nicholson on Twitter: "As an Englishman, I should watch that. But Wales vs Belgium should be an unbelievable match."
Richard Daniels on Twitter: "Ok...I'm at the game and they just read out the Belgian team. My optimism levels have dropped somewhat."
Andy Brown on Twitter: "This Belgian team have the potential of doing something very special in Brazil and beyond!"
-
1939:
Wales boss Chris Coleman speaking before kick-off about losing Joe Allen: "We have had a setback today, Joe has trained all week and yesterday felt a little pull, but then he picked up a virus and a temperature.
"He has been in bed all day so there was no chance of him playing. Losing Joe is a big blow but we are here and it is us against then, we have got to get our game right."
-
1938:
In Cardiff, captains Vincent Kompany and Aaron Ramsey are reading out a message about respect and fair play. Belgium have a very natty away kit on display, black with a yellow and red sash across the front.
-
1938:
England manager Roy Hodgson says that Jermain Defoe was picked as he is "playing regularly for Tottenham and playing well." He says that comfortable wins are hard to come by and he cannot relax going into this game.
-
1936:
The Belgium fans in Cardiff are holding up a banner which says "Respect Gary Speed." Respect is due indeed.
-
1932:
There's been a lot of chat about the state of the pitch in Chisinau, but on first viewing it's hardly a mudpit from the 1980s. Nothing much to worry about.
-
1929:
Wing-backs? Now we are back in Glenn Hoddle territory. Graeme Le Saux on the left, Darren Anderton down the right. Lovely.
-
1929:GET INVOLVED
Alex Smith on Twitter: "Would like to see England play a 5-3-2 with wingbacks. We are strong in the middle of midfield but poor in wide positions."
Neil Hutchings on Twitter: "Why take Carrick and not play him? Same old same old. Pointless."
Chris Harris on Twitter: "Some England fans have VERY short memories. Johnson was our best player at the Euros."

1927:
Former Wales captain Kevin Ratcliffe on BBC Radio Wales: "It's going to be very difficult for Wales, particularly since they haven't got anywhere near their best side out. If Wales get a draw it will be a fantastic result. Wales might have to rely on Gareth Bale to offer any threat, but Belgium are massive favourites."
-
1926:
I've just seen the German team who are taking on the Faroe Islands. Mario Gomez is missing and Lukas Podolski is only on the bench but there are goals to be had there. Miroslav Klose - fill your boots.
-
1923:GET INVOLVED
Benjamin Cook on Twitter: "Hodgson has done the smart thing and has started phasing in the youth. Throwing them all in at once would be chaotic."
Graham Matthew Last on Twitter: "England team looking decent tonight! Cut the negativity and get behind the team! Lampard to shine."
James Carter on Twitter: "People saying Milner shouldn't be playing and youth should be 'given a chance' should remember that Milner is only 26."
-

-
1920:GET INVOLVED
Henry Walmsley on Twitter: "Think i might watch the Wales-Belgium game instead. Would rather watch Mousa Dembele than England struggle against Moldova."
Hani Nyabam on Twitter: "Oh my goodness. The starting line up for Belgium is frightening. This should be an easy win for them!"
Matthew Blackshaw on Twitter: "McClean? Coleman? McGeady has more ability in his little toe than they do."
-
1916:BBC Radio 5 live commentator Alistair Bruce-Ball
"I'm told Joe Allen is not in the Wales side against Belgium tonight because he's ill. It's a blow for Chris Coleman, who is already without a number of key players."
-
1913:
Just over half an hour to go then until kick-off in Cardiff and Chisinau. You are not exactly delighted with the England XI tonight it seems, while Joe Allen being struck with ilness is another bad break for Wales.
Two wins for the home nations then?
-
1912:GET INVOLVED
Rob Croxton on Twitter: "How are Carrick and Jagielka not starting? Happy with the Ox and Cleverley though."
Sam Dingle on Twitter: "Don't like Roy's selection one bit. Wouldn't have started Johnson, Terry, Lampard, Milner or Defoe. Time to give youth a chance."
-
1912:
BBC Radio 5 live commentator Mike Ingham"The result shouldn't be in doubt tonight. Moldova have only ever won two World Cup qualifiers. But nothing can be taken for granted here. England have to get the job done."
-
1910:
Just the seven Premier League players in the Belgium team to face Wales tonight then.
Thomas Vermaelen, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Marouane Fellaini, Kevin Mirallas and Eden Hazard all start in Cardiff.
-
1908:GET INVOLVED
Andy Knight on Twitter: "Is the future of England still dependent on Terry, Lampard and Gerrard? As Private Frazer would say in Dad's Army: 'We're doomed.'"
Kelvin Yip on Twitter: "Gerrard and Lampard in centre mid. What is this - 2002?"
Phil Sammon on Twitter: "Sick of hearing people have a go at Milner. He's a tireless midfielder with quality. How Johnson plays and not Walker is beyond me."
-
1908:
Michael Carrick is on the bench for England tonight so his journey wasn't totally wasted. He's joined on there by Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge so there are attacking options in reseve for Roy Hodgson. If he wants them.
Germany are at home to the Faroe Islands tonight by the way, and they seem to be the only team any more who properly put these minnows away. How many will Germany rack up? Seven? Eight? Goals in that one, surely...
-
1906:GET INVOLVED
Alfie Deller on Twitter: "The Belgium team has scary potential. And that's even without Lukaku playing!"
Andy Horton on Twitter: "Games against Kazakhstan are always boring. Trappers likes to liven things up."
Huw Corcoran on Twitter: "What's all the fuss about Cleverley? Had one decent season at a lesser club, nothing spectacular... just another Jordan Henderson."
-
1902:GET INVOLVED
Niall Gallagher on Twitter: "Trapattoni's ignorance should have been punished. Disgraceful to not play two quality wingers in McClean and Coleman."
Evan on Twitter: "So happy with the Irish win but it shouldn't be used as a device to paper over Trap's tactical weaknesses."
John Cruise on Twitter: "A sign of a great team - winning when you play badly? Yeah, right..."
-
1901:BREAKING TEAM NEWS- Wales v Belgium (19:45 BST)
There's no Joe Allen in the Wales side, so it looks like Ashley Williams will push up into midfield. David Vaughan is included on the bench despite not having played this season because of injury.
-
1855:GET INVOLVED
Adam Fleetwood on Twitter: "Defoe better to get goals against a weak outfit than Welbeck. Good choice, Roy."
Matt Fallon on Twitter: "With the Ox and Defoe upfront and Gerrard, Lampard and Cleverley, I'm expecting a few defence-splitting through balls. 4-0 England win."
Sam Robson on Twitter: "Decent mix in that line-up, would prefer a more attacking winger to Milner though, bit too defensive-minded for a game against Moldova."
-
1855:FULL-TIME- Kazakhstan 1-2 Republic of Ireland
Three points for the Irish. It was never in doubt...
-
1852:GOAL- Kazakhstan 1-2 Republic of Ireland - Kevin Doyle (90mins)
Absolutely extraordinary. They've not had a kick all game but Ireland are now winning! A long ball is pumped into the Kazakhstan box, and when it is headed down into the path of substitute Kevin Doyle he turns it home.
-
1850:GOAL- Kazakhstan 1-1 Republic of Ireland - Robbie Keane (89 mins)
What a pro Robbie Keane has been for his nation down the years. He keeps his cool to steer in a penalty and earn a poin... no but wait...
-
1850:PENALTY TO IRELAND
Robbie Keane is brought down in the dying seconds and gets up to take the spot-kick himself...
-
1849:GET INVOLVED
Matt Graham on Twitter: "As a Man Utd fan, I'd love to have seen Welbeck start. But as an England fan, I'm not overly upset to see Defoe start."
Dan Fookes on Twitter: "Thrilled that James Milner appears to have nailed down that right-midfield position *cries*."
Gadzukis on Twitter: "Gerrard and Lampard? Haven't we been here before?!? Zzzzzzz."
-
1848:
We're into the last few minutes in Kazakhstan. Somone get Roy Keane on the phone...
-
1847:GET INVOLVED
Niall McCavitt on Twitter: "Re 18:29 - Mr D Beckham? Not sure, although I did hear he just lounges around in his underpants all day."
Jamie Lafferty on Twitter: "Re: 18.29 - he learned how to sell things. Many things, including pants."
Chris Nasse on Twitter: "It's a strange world when England could only dream of having a starting 11 like Belgium's."
-
1847:
It's a 50th cap for Jermain Defoe tonight, and I'm not sure Michael Carrick will be too impressed after coming out of exile, flying all the way to Moldova only to again not be picked.
He could have had his feet up watching the Paralympics right now.
-
1844:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in ChisinauMoldova v England (19:45 BST)"Jermain Defoe starts up front as England go in search of victory against Moldova in Chisinau. Tom Cleverley gets his first competitive start - a big opportunity for Manchester United's midfield man and this World Cup qualifier gives Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain another chance to make an impact at international level."
-
1841:GREAT SAVE!
With the Republic claiming Darren O'Dea had been fouled, Baurzhan Dzholchiyev has a great chance to increase Kazakhstan's lead with 13 minutes to go but Keiren Westwood stands tall to make a fine save.
-
1841:GET INVOLVED
Jack in Norwich on text: "Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Milner, Gerrard and Lampard? We need to look to the future not the past, this is the perfect opportunity to blood the younger players!"
-
1839:
So Jermain Defoe is preferred to Danny Welbeck then. Thoughts?
-
1838:GET INVOLVED
David Dunne on Twitter: "Trap must surely go if it finishes 1-0. Not popular with the fans, questionable tactics and alienates key Irish squad players."
Tom Lane on Twitter: "James McClean is the future but Trapattoni doesn't seem to want to embrace young players. Living in the past - like his tactics."
Ross Doyle on Twitter: "Trapattoni, are you Staunton in disguise?"
-
1838:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"England: Hart, Johnson, Baines, Gerrard, Lescott, Terry, Milner, Lampard, Defoe, Cleverley, Oxlade-Chamberlain."
-
1838:BREAKING TEAM NEWS- Moldova v England (19:45 BST)
Tom Cleverley starts for England, with Jermain Defoe as the sole striker. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also in the starting XI.
-
1834:
Shane Long is on now for the Republic of Ireland as they edge towards a shambolic defeat. Can the West Brom man make the difference?
-
1832:
Also in the England side on that day were Nick Barmby - who netted - and Andy Hinchcliffe down the left wing. Now there was a man who could cross a ball...
-
1829:
Tonight is Roy Hodgson's first World Cup qualifier as England boss, and those of you with a long memory may recall that Moldova was also the venue for Glenn Hoddle's first qualifier in 1996.
A certain Mr. D. Beckham made his debut that day. Whatever happened to him?
-
1825:
Kazakhstan still lead against the Republic. Striker Kevin Doyle is on for the Irish in place of Simon Cox but no clear-cut chances for the visitors so far in the second half.
-
1819:
As we hit the hour mark in Kazakhstan, it's the hosts who have looked most likely to score, with Ulan Konysbayev having a shot just over the top. No sign of a fightback from the Republic just yet...
-
1818:
Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 live"The Wales players will be fired up to qualify for the finals in memory of their former boss Gary Speed but it is a big ask, and their first game alone is tough enough. Belgium have got a really good side, the majority of them play in Premier League and most of them have signed for big money."
-
1816:GET INVOLVED
Joseph Wood on Twitter: "RE: 1801 That should be an easy decision, only one of those teams has a realistic chance of getting through the group."
David Whelan on Twitter: "Embarrassing watching the Republic play football at the moment. Changes needed in personnel and tactics to turn this around."
Paul Dempster on Twitter: "England shirt is on ready for another two-year cycle of boring, old fashioned, over hyped football."
-
1812:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"Moldova's players are out on the pitch for a pre-match walkabout. England have some concerns about the surface. Goalmouths look a little uneven and patchy, as do one or two other areas, but no excuses can be offered if England do not leave Chisinau with victory in their opening World Cup qualifier."
-
1808:KICK-OFF- Kazakhstan 1-0 Republic of Ireland
The second half is under way. The Republic need a big turnaround here.
-
1808:
I'm not a firm believer in the Fifa rankings - England being third in the list my main bone of contention - but they do highlight the scale of upset on the cards in Astana.
Republic of Ireland are currently ranked at 26 in the world, with Kazakhstan way down in 142nd spot. Ouch.
-
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Moldova"Floodlights flashing on at the Zimbru Stadium - England fans inside and already claiming pride of place for the trademark banners and flags."
-
1802:
Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 live"Roy Hodgson is slowly but surely trying to change the way England play. I think tonight he is going to pick three men in midfield who are all comfortable on the ball, in Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard - that might mean we are back to the old days of asking whether Lampard and Gerrard can play together, but the answer to that is 'yes they can'.
"With no Wayne Rooney, I also expect Danny Welbeck to start up front with two wide players on either side of him. The pitch in Moldova isn't as good as most Premier League pitches, but that doesn't mean it is a bad pitch. Even so, if it is a poor surface, I can't see England being beaten tonight - and let's remember they don't have too many problems qualifying for major finals, the problems start when they get there."
-
1801:GET INVOLVED
Jonathan Gray on Twitter: "Scottish mum, Welsh dad, born and raised in Belgium. This group is quite the dilemma."
James on Twitter: "Buzzing atmosphere down riverside, Belgium fans making themselves heard!"
-
1759:GET INVOLVED
As our thoughts begin to turn towards Moldova, what can we expect from England later on? A slick, one-touch display of midfield mastery? Or a scrappy 2-0 win punctuated by long spells of giving the ball away cheaply and aimless long balls pumped toward an isolated front man?
Let me know. You can text in on 81111 (UK only) and tweet us on the hashtag #bbcfootball.
-
1757:
So not the best of starts for the teams on our radar so far.
The Republic of Ireland have 45 minutes to turn it around yet though, before England take on Moldova and Wales face a tasty-looking Belgian side at 19:45 BST.
-
1755:HALF-TIME- Kazakhstan 1-0 Republic of Ireland
Kazakhstan deservedly lead at the break. After a bright start when James McCarthy tested home keeper Andrei Sidelnikov, it's been a pretty grim display by the Irish.
-
1753:FULL-TIME- Russia 2-0 Northern Ireland
It's all over in Moscow, with Fabio Capello's men picking up a routine three points.
-
1751:PENALTY APPEAL
Gareth McAuley has looked the biggest threat for Northern Ireland all game and he goes close again, this time thumping in a bullet of a drive from 15 yards which appears to hit a defender on the arm before it is cleared. No joy though.
-
1750:GREAT SAVE!
It's almost 2-0 to Kazakhstan as Ulan Konysbaev is denied by a flying stop from Keiren Westwood. Major work to do for the Irish.
-
1748:
We are into the final few minutes in Moscow, where it looks like a comfortable home win for Fabio Capello and his boys.
-
1746:
Back in Moscow, that man Alexander Kerzhakov goes close again with another long-range free-kick which flies just wide. He cannot buy an international goal.
-
1745:GOAL- Kazakhstan 1-0 Republic of Ireland - Kairat Nurdauletov (38 mins)
Now then. The Republic are stunned as Kazakhstan skipper Kairat Nurdauletov heads a Heinrich Schmidtgal free-kick past Keiren Westwood.
After a purposeful start, the Irish had lost their way badly and have it all to do now.
-
1743:
That's exactly what it was, a good old-fashioned shoulder charge. But Craig Cathcart was the wrong side of his man and ultimately prevented him from getting on to the ball so I was not too surprised to see a penalty awarded.
-
1742:GET INVOLVED
Scott McMenemy on Twitter: "Ridiculous penalty decision. Are we taking shoulder to shoulder out of the game now?"
-
1741:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"Moldova coach Ion Caras claimed 100,000 tickets could have been sold for tonight's World Cup qualifier with England. Instead 10,400 will pack into Chisinau's Zimbru Stadium. Moldova's players are on £2,500 a man to win and £800 if they take a point against Roy Hodgson's side. Huge police presence already inside the largely deserted stadium."
-
1739:CLOSE!
I was just about to say that Northern Ireland look out of this one, when they go close to an instant response. Gareth McAuley wins the header from a corner, the ball is destined for the net until Viktor Faitzulin hacks it clear. We are into the final 10 minutes now.
-
1738:GOAL- Russia 2-0 Northern Ireland - Roman Shirokov (78 mins)
That's how you take a penalty. Roman Shirokov sends Roy Carroll the wrong way and finds the corner. Superb spot-kick.
-
1737:PENALTY FOR RUSSIA
Craig Cathcart bundles over Alexander Kokorin and the referee points straight to the spot.
-
1737:SUBSTITUTION FOR NORTHERN IRELAND- Andrew Little on for Jamie Ward
-
1735:HITS THE WOODWORK
Smack! A fine free-kick it is as well, as Alexander Kerzhakov pings the shot around the wall but flush against the far post. He has no luck this man in front of goal...
-
1735:
What a run from Vladimir Bystrov! He beats three or four men in a mazy dribble before he goes down right on the edge of the area, drawing the foul from Gareth McAuley and winning a free-kick in a very dangerous spot.
-
1731:
Russia have stepped off the gas a tad here. It all stems from Fabio Capello taking off playmaker Alan Dzagoev, who was running the show. What was all that about? Maybe the midfielder was carrying an injury. He didn't seem too impressed when he trudged off though.
-
1728:
Half way through the first half in Astana but despite plenty of Republic of Ireland huff and puff there is still no breakthrough. If anything, Kazakhstan are looking the more fluent in possession.
-
1727:
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer in Chisinau"Police officers stationed high in the tower blocks overlooking Chisinau's Zimbru Stadium. Great view of action inside & outside the ground."
-
1726:
Nothing much to report from Kazakhstan, where it remains goalless between the hosts and the Republic of Ireland.
-
1722:
Russia come again, down their right this time, Vladimir Bystrov skins Craig Cathcart to motor into the box and put in a dangerous cut-back across the face of goal, but it's brilliantly read by Jonny Evans who hacks it away. As long as it remains 1-0, Northern Ireland cannot be ruled out of this one.
-
1717:SUBSTITUTION
Alan Dzagoev is too good for Northern Ireland. They cannot contain him as he again finds a pocket of space 30 yards from goal, this time he chooses to play in Roman Shirokov, whose shot is blocked.
Fabio Capello then does Northern Ireland a huge favour by replacing Dzagoev with Alexander Kokorin. A bizarre decision that one...
-
1715:CLOSE!
Close to 2-0 for Russia. A corner from the right is fired in, Vasili Berezutskiy beats his man to the ball and sees his header fly just past the far post. Northern Ireland were all at sea there.
-
1708:
A bright start for Northern Ireland, as first Aaron Hughes and then Jamie Ward are able to put in dangerous crosses from the right. Kyle Lafferty is sniffing around on both occasions but the mighty figure of Vasili Berezutskiy heads away.
-
1708:GET INVOLVED
Mitul, Arsenal fan in Bolton on text: "Agree with Joe (16:56) that Arshavin, whilst likely to leave on a free come January or next summer, could still play a role for Arsenal this season. He will always have the talent. Too bad he's become lazy and his career has fizzled out."
Colin on text: "The only Russians to make an impact in England are Roman Abramovich, Anna Kournikova at Wimbledon and vodka."
-
1705:KICK-OFF- Russia 1-0 Northern Ireland
And there's the second half beginning in Moscow.
-
1705:KICK-OFF- Kazakhstan v Republic of Ireland (17:00 BST)
Game on in Astana. How will the Republic fare without Shay Given and Damien Duff, who have both retired from the international game?
-
1704:
A bit of domestic news just in for you - and former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is back in football after accepting an advisory role at League One side Bournemouth.
That's where it all started for 'Arry of course. Can he bring the glory days back to Dean Court?
-
1659:LINE-UPS- Kazakhstan v Republic of Ireland (17:00 BST)

1658:
You can listen to full live commentary of the England match tonight on 5 live Sport from 19:00 BST. Mike Ingham and Alan Green are your commentary team, with analysis from former England international Danny Mills. Alistair Bruce-Ball reports from the Millennium Stadium where Wales face Belgium.
-
1656:GET INVOLVED
Joe, Arsenal fan in Sheffield, on text: "I still think Arshavin has something to offer. I honestly thought he would be involved in the Liverpool game last weekend and I know many fans got tired of his poor performances last season but he's a player that needs love.
"He needs the fans' backing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting he could be a star player for us this season but I do think he can bring something different to the table."
-
1653:
Have we had any successful Russian imports? I put to you Dmitri Kharine and Andrei Kanchelskis - any one top that?
-
1650:GET INVOLVED
Steve Taylor on Twitter: "Did I just hear "Dzagoev for the Premier League"? Do the names Pavlyuchenko, Arshavin and Zhirkov mean nothing to you?"
-
1649:HALF-TIME- Russia 1-0 Northern Ireland
Russia look comfortable as the first half comes to a close.
-
1647:Kazakhstan v Republic of Ireland (17:00 BST)
James McCarthy is handed his first competitive start for the Republic of Ireland, with Stoke man Jon Walters up front and Sunderland winger James McClean on the bench.
-
1645:
It's been all Russia for the last 10 minutes or so, but here's a slight sighter for Northern Ireland. Corry Evans picks out Kyle Lafferty with a fine ball over the top, the former Rangers man controls it well but his low shot is easy for Igor Akinfeev to field. Five minutes of the first half remain.
-
1644:
We were just having the same chat here at BBC towers Don. He looked a class act at the Euros and has impressed again so far. Is there a slight quetsion mark over Russian players in England so far though? Arsenal fans, can you seen Andrey Arshavin featuring much this season?
-
1642:GET INVOLVED
Don in Norwich on text: "I'm VERY surprised no Premier League team snapped up Dzagoev in the summer."
-
1638:CLOSE!
It should be 2-0. Russia once more open up Northern Ireland, Roman Shirokov is in on goal but sees his low shot well saved by the foot of Roy Carroll, Alexander Kerzhakov pounces on the rebound but can't keep the header down.
-
1637:
Alan Dzagoev made that goal. He really seems to be able to spot a pass that split second ahead of his team-mates and is a real threat in and around the box. Northern Ireland need to hang on until the break now.
-
1634:GOAL- Russia 1-0 Northern Ireland - Viktor Faitzulin (30 mins)
Classic. Pedestrian Russia go through the gears to open the scoring with a fine goal. Again Alan Dzagoev is the key man, picking out Alexander Kerzhakov with a cute pass, and Kerzhakov was able to square the ball back for Viktor Faitzulin to hit his first for his country high into the net. Excellent finish.
-
1632:
Northern Ireland are finding space to operate in midfield nicely now, with captain Steven Davis seeing plenty of the ball. I'm sure Fabio Capello will want to see more urgency from his Russian side though. After a bright start it's all gone a bit pedestrian.
-
1629:
Chris, have you considered a career in coaching?
-
1629:GET INVOLVED
Jack in Nuneaton on text: "Northern Ireland can nick a draw here, everyone will remember their brave 0-0 draw against Italy for the Euro qualifier, the key will beating teams like Luxembourg and Azerbaijan."
Chris on text: "Mon the boys in green an white! Hoof it up the field to the big man Lafferty to knock the ball down for Ward to stick in the onion bag."
-
1627:
This is better from the visitors, as they maintain a spell of possession. Corry Evans is able to carry the ball menacingly through midfield but he loses control at a vital moment just as he was lining up the shot. Russia break well but Alan Dzagoev can't find a final ball on this occasion. Midway through the first half and so far, so good for Northern Ireland.
-
1624:
Kyle Lafferty is working hard up front on his own and the FC Sion man does well to earn a corner here. Chris Brunt delivers it to the back stick and West Brom team-mate Gareth McAuley wins it, but his header runs tamely wide.
That's the brightest moment for Northern Ireland so far. Can they hurt Russia?
-
1621:PENALTY APPEAL
Russia may feel they had a good penalty shout in that chance for Kerzhakov as well, Gareth McAuley caught Vladimir Bystrov late in the build-up. A double escape for Michael O'Neill's side?
-
1620:GET INVOLVED
Jonathon Gregory, Castledona, on text: "Northern Ireland have the firepower with Lafferty, Ward, Brunt and Davis to punish a vastly overrated Russian side. Just need to do the basics well, and this could be an upset! Come on norn' Ireland."
-
1618:CLOSE!
Ooh, big chance for the Russians. Again it's Alexander Kerzhakov who has the shot from 15 yards. He's free of the defence but drags it wide.
He should have scored - a major let-off for Northern Ireland.
-
1617:
Lovely move from Russia as they cut Northern Ireland open. Alan Dzagoev picks up the ball on the edge of the box, shapes to shoot but instead threads a pass through to Alexander Kerzhakov. He gets a shot away but is tracked well by Gareth McAuley who takes the sting out of the effort and Roy Carroll saves again. Russia starting to look dangerous though.
-
1614:
A few of you have reminded me that of course, former Spurs man Roman Pavlyuchenko does now play in Russia, at Lokomotiv Moscow. In that case I don't know why Fabio Capello hasn't picked him, but he's not involved.
Alexander Kerzhakov is involved here though, and he brings the first save out of Roy Carroll with a deflected effort from 25 yards which the former Manchester United man saves with ease.
-
1609:
Alan Dzagoev is indeed a fine player, as he proved in the summer. He almost creates the first goal of the evening with a ball in from the left but Roy Carroll is able to claim from in front of Vladimir Bystrov.
-
1609:GET INVOLVED
Jack, England fan on text via 81111: "Northern Ireland to be absolutely destroyed by a Russian squad (and Capello) who all have a point to prove."
Jamie, on the bus to work on text: "That's a lot of V's in the Russian squad, also a lot of quality players! Dzagoev is one to watch, young and highly talented, expected him to be snatched up over the summer!"
-
1606:
Around 200 Northern Irish fans have made the trip apparently. A great effort that.
Micheal O'Neill's side have lined up with Kyle Lafferty very much up front on his own. Could be a long night ahead for big Kyle.

1605:GET INVOLVED
C MacNeachtain on Twitter: "The Northern Ireland lads haven't got a chance. A 3-0 drubbing at best. Squad simply isn't good enough. Where is Pat McCourt?!"

1558:GET INVOLVED
We are having some delays in getting the full line-ups confirmed from Moscow but in the meantime why not get in touch.
What do we expect from tonight's games? Can Northern Ireland pull off a shock? What about the Republic later on? And how do we fancy England's chances against Moldova? How good are this Belgian lot going to be?
Let me know. You can text in on 81111 (UK only) and tweet us on the hashtag #bbcfootball. Lovely stuff.

1554:
Fabio Capello has only named players based in Russia in his squad, so there is no Andrey Arshavin, Pavel Pogrebnyak or Roman Pavlyuchenko for Northern Ireland to worry about.
-
1551:Russia v Northern Ireland (16:00 BST)
Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill hands goalkeeper Roy Carroll a first competitive start for six years, with Nottingham Forest's Lee Camp left out.
Derby's Jamie Ward has been given his first international start on the left of midfield and Corry Evans is also included.
-
1550:
This is not only a big night for Roy Hodgson - it's also the competitive debut for his predecessor Fabio Capello as Russia boss.
Kick-off against the Northern Irish is only 10 minutes away, and the team news is filtering through.

1546:
But tonight is not all about England. Oh no.
There are 22 qualifying ties kicking off across Europe over the course of the next few hours, and while I'd love to bring you minute by minute updates on Malta v Armenia and Albania v Cyprus, we'll be sticking to the games closer to home.
And here's what lies in store for them...
-
1545:
Believe it or not, it was just 790 days ago that Andres Iniesta won the 2010 World Cup for Spain in Johannesburg, clubbing a shot past Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to seal a 1-0 win in extra-time.
We've seen a lot of action in the two years or since that goal; Fernando Torres has had his ups and downs, Emile Heskey has retired from international duty, and Roy Hodgson is now England manager.
But the World Cup is back, and tonight Roy begins his first qualifying campaign in Moldova. Can he lead the Three Lions to Brazil? We will get the first clues in just a few hours...
