Shaun Barker extends Derby County contract by 12 months

Injured Derby County captain Shaun Barker has signed a 12-month extension to his current contract, which will now see him stay at Pride Park until 2015.

The 29-year-old centre-back was ruled out for around 16 months with a knee injury sustained in March.

Manager Nigel Clough told BBC Radio Derby: "It just shows our confidence in him that he will come back and be an important player after this season."

Barker signed his last Rams deal in December 2010.

The defender dislocated his right kneecap and also suffered ligament damage against Nottingham Forest towards the end of last season.
