As it happened

  1. 1200:

Good afternoon and welcome to our live text coverage of transfer deadline day in Scotland...

  2. 1201:

Don't you just love deadline day? If you see Michael Owen, disguised under a cloth cap walking an excitable whippet, outside Fir Park; if you identify Clarence Seedorf running at full pelt down Easter Road...

And/or if you spot The Essex Lion chomping on a t-bone steak at a Little Chef and overhear him saying he's heading north to sign for an unnamed SPL club - let me know!

  3. 1203:

Our army of reporters are on foot patrol for all the transfer speculation/news and confirmation of deals. We'll bring you news of all the deals before the 23:00 BST deadline.

To get in touch today, tweet the live text using the hashtag #bbcsportsound or message me @bbcthomasmcg

And you can text 80295 with SPL at the start of your message.

  4. 1205:

Hearts have rebuffed offers from Rangers for winger David Templeton and full-back Ryan McGowan.

BBC Scotland has learned the combined offer made by Rangers combined was less than £1m and falls short of Hearts' valuations of the players.

Will Rangers come back in with an improved offer before tonight's deadline?

  5. 1207:

The deadline for players joining Scottish Premier League clubs is 23:00 BST.

However, if SPL clubs want new signings to be available for this weekend's fixtures then the deadline is 17:00 BST.

The English Premier League deadline is also 23:00 BST and the deadline for Scottish Football League clubs is midnight on Friday...

  6. 1210:

John, in Aberdeen, to 80295: "Just got a text from my 3rd cousin's brother's neice who claims McFadden's going to be playing in Aberdeen this year. I'm hoping it's James McFadden & not that Brian McFadden bloke from Westlife"

If the "new signing" emerges from the plane whistling I Have A Dream then you know you're in trouble...

  7. 1212:

Lloyd Evans: "Any news on potential Celtic signings/departures? #bbcfootball"

I'm braced for a tweet from our senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin with the latest. Coming up...

  8. 1214:

Meanwhile, Hearts are on the cusp of bolstering their squad at Tynecastle. Fresh from their impressive Europa League display against Liverpool last night, Jambos boss John McGlynn has told BBC Scotland Ryan Stevenson will undergo a medical.

The 27-year-old joined Ipswich Town from Hearts in January, having spent two years with the Edinburgh side.

Motherwell had been keen on the player, who had spells at Ayr United and St Johnstone earlier in his career.

"There is an interest so we're hopeful we can do something with Ryan," McGlynn said.

  9. 1216:

Blackburn Rovers have broken their transfer record to sign Huddersfield Town and Scotland striker Jordan Rhodes in a deal worth up to £8m.

Rhodes, 22, has signed a five-year contract and will lead Rovers' attempt to return to the Premier League.

There had been some whispers that the striker may have taken the high Rhodes to Scotland, but Steve Kean has got his man...

  10. 1220:

Garrie in Nairn: "Wonder how many players will be spotted at airports and in Homebase today? Love transfer deadline day!"

Anonymous to 80295: "Just seen Pepe Reina headimg down Easter Road, could it be?"

Anonymous: "Kirk Broadfoot in Morrisons cafe, Paisley. Working till, said eggs were off today"

  11. 1222:

Quick question: who would be your realistic and fantasy deadline day signing?

Would you like your club chairman to coax Robbie Savage out of retirement? Do you think David Villa could top up his fitness with a loan move until January?

Tweet using the hashtag #bbcsportsound or message @bbcthomasmcg and text 80295.

  12. 1225:

Will Dundee United successfully see off potential suitors for forward Johhny Russell?

Russell has been in sparkling form this season and United chairman Stephen Thompson has placed a £2m price tag on the hitman.

United boss Peter Houston, no doubt jumping 50 feet in the air every time the phone rings, said: " I would like the window shut and keep Johnny."

  13. 1228:

Lloyd Evans: "Realistic signing: Johnny Russell. fantasy: Lionel Messi's boots."

You could hang the wee magician's boots up above your car windscreen like furry dice...

  14. 1230:
    BBC Scotland's Brian McLauchlin

"Hibs are hoping to make two signings today. Probable news of these late afternoon..."

  15. 1232:

Craig Lawson: "All quiet at Aberdeen. Come on Broony get another striker in #bbcsportsound"

I'm sure the former Scotland boss will satisfy your wish after he's got his fantasy team sorted for the weekend...

  16. 1235:

Evinguu: "Signing... Clarence Seedorf (for celtic) if he still available on a free."

Alas, the former Netherlands and AC Milan midfielder signed a two-year deal with Brazilian outfit Botafogo in the summer. I remember his display against Man Utd in the San Siro a few seasons ago in the Champions League: an 11 out of 10!

  17. 1238:
BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin

"Del Piero likely move is to Oz. @OfficialNeil not doing usual pre match media duties as he's working on possible deals..."

  18. 1240:

Thomas Mackintosh: "What's the latest on Craig Gordon? Is he likely to be playing is football in Scotland this season?"

I'm amazed the Scotland keeper hasn't been snapped up yet, Thomas. He told BBC Scotland in May that he was unsure where he would be playing.

"I'm keeping my options open to absolutely everything at the moment, be it Scotland, England or anywhere else in Europe," said the 29-year-old.

"It is important to show anybody watching that I am ready to play."

  19. 1245:

I've got my finger poised over the BREAKING NEWS graphic. Come on clubs, let's get buying & selling here!

  20. 1247:

On transfer deadline day, I've got the vision of club chairmen, sporting sheepskin coats and whistling the Minder theme tune, shaking hands with their new signing(s) over the bonnet of the Cortina.

  21. 1250:

Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam has completed his move from Liverpool to Stoke City.

"I'm delighted to be here and to be given the opportunity to work with the club, the manager and the players," Adam said.

"This club's on the up and it's great to be a part of it. I hope I can help them to improve upon the success which has been achieved over the past few years."

  22. 1252:

Allan McGinness: "Any news about Efe Ambrose at Lennoxtown?"

No news yet Allan, will keep you posted as soon as we hear something.

  23. 1254:

Keith Greenoak: "Just seen Christian Nade in Piemaker in Edinburgh. Don't think he's signing for anyone, just think he's hungry (again) #bbcsportsound"

Was he looking for-lorne? Sorry, I'll get my coat...

  24. 1258:

"The last transfer window was manic right up to the last minute and this one will probably be the same. You always get a call late on saying 'would you be interested in this one?'

"And you say: 'I didn't think he'd be available but yes definitely'. We've got a couple of targets we're looking to bring in and if we can get done that would be great."

Meanwhile, defenders Jordon Foster and Scott Smith have been shipped out to East Fife on loan from Easter Road.

  25. 1300:

Marc Sturrock on signing targets: "Hopefully, Johnny Russell to Celtic with Joe Chalmers going the other way on loan. #ideal"

  26. 1302:

Neil Forsyth: "Matt Kennedy heading to Everton after fee agreed, and rumours Liam Kelly heading to Bristol City for 500k. Also hearing Killie linked with Bayern Munich striker on loan?!"

    We're on the case Neil...

  27. 1304:

Evinguu: "Oh well no Seedorf then :( and no Del Piero... Chris Humphrey it is then :( lol"

Michael McMillan: "Just spotted Gary Teale boarding a flight to Barcelona #bbcsportsound"

Allyg: "2nd cousin spotted Goodwillie at Ibrox, season-long loan after Rhodes deal confirmed #bbcsportsound"

  28. 1306:
    Celtic manager Neil Lennon

    "Phone is busy today"

  29. 1310:

Television pictures show Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam - in Harry Redknapp-mode with his car window rolled down - speaking to a battery of reporters following his move from Liverpool to Stoke.

Adam says he's "delighted" to join Tony Pulis's side.

  30. 1314:

Alexander Cassidy: "Matty Kennedy going nowhere. Michael Nelson just tweeted a picture of Kennedy and Manu Pascali messing about at training. Here is @MattyKennedy33 having his medical #deadlineday"

  31. 1316:

Gerry: "Apparently Rangers are trying to re-sign Fleck. I mean he's about 41 and 18 stone but Ally thinks he can do a job"

Nico: "It's the players' agents who have the managers over the bonnets of their cortinas!"

Chris in Glasgow: "Darren Mackie has been spotted in Ayrshire. Signing for Killie? Ayr Utd? Probably Ardrossan Castle Rovers... "

  32. 1319:

Robert Steel: "Michael Owen to @AberdeenFC train with #ManUtd during week Fergie will ok it as a favour #gamechanger #operation3rdstar #bbcsportsound"

  33. 1321:

Scotland captain Darren Fletcher will once again join up with the squad next week as he continues his recovery from a chronic bowel condition.

Fletcher, who trained with the Scots ahead of the friendly with Australia, is likely to be included in Man Utd's 25-man Champions League squad.

"Darren's put a lot of weight back on," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He's back to his normal weight from two or three years ago. It's a case of wait and see."

The 28-year-old hasn't played for nearly 10 months; Scotland kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign next month against Serbia and Macedonia.

  34. 1324:

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas does not envisage any late action in the transfer market ahead of tonight's deadline.

"It would be nice to get two or three in but I wouldn't have thought so," he said.

  35. 1326:

Richard in Stornoway: "Robbie Savage at baggage reclaim in Glasgow Airport. Could be here for signing talks with Alistair and Charles following his previous offer to play for Gers. Let's hope it's to provide dancing lessons for the Govan Cha Cha class rather than anything to do with Ibrox."

  36. 1328:
    Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam

"Just like to thank the great support of LFC and the club for a fantastic year; was honoured to have been giving the opportunity to wear no 26"

  37. 1330:

Stephen Main: "You boys can just go home for the day, nothing going to be happening up here #zzzzzzz #bbcsportscotland"

Not a chance, Stephen! I'll be here until midnight, armed to the teeth with an industrial-sized flask of coffee, a dozen Star Bars, mobile phone(s) in a holster and my team of reporters on speed-dial...

  38. 1332:

Paul Clarkson: "Strong rumour of Paddy McCourt signing for Hibs today!! Hope it's true #bbcsportsound"

  39. 1334:
Liam McLeod, Football Commentator, BBC Scotland

"As things stand there will be no new arrivals at #RossCounty on #TransferDeadlineDay. Derek Adams happy with squad...unsurprisingly."

  40. 1336:

Tommy Jones: "Ryan Stevenson would do damage in the hole behind Sutton. Gowzer and Temps though? I'd like to see them at Tynie on Sunday. #bbcsportsound"

  41. 1338:

Stephen Main: "Enjoy that! I will just come back at 10pm to make sure Temps and McGowan are still with Hearts"

    Roger that!

  42. 1340:

Nico to 80295: "No need for anyone in 3rd Division to worry. The days of Robbie Savage dancing past players have long since past!"

  43. 1341:

Our senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin says Rangers remain locked in talks with Hearts over winger David Templeton and are "confident" they'll get their man...

  44. 1342:
    BBC Scotland's Jane Lewis

"Celtic boss Neil Lennon has told me he's trying to get a striker in on loan. No names!

  45. 1344:

Joeyalltheseven: "Just seen Ronaldo at Pittodrie, potential loan signing?"

Which one Joey? If it's the Brazilian then I'm not sure if he'll be able to tease on that famous red jersey. The legendary striker isn't a stranger to a fish supper these days...

  46. 1347:

Gary Sweeney: "Michael Owen is waiting on the phone call from Lennon before committing to a mediocre English team #bbcsportsound"

Remember Michael Owen's wonder goal for England against Argentina at France 98?

  47. 1350:

Our team of reporters are bashing the phones, bending the ear of 'club sources' and banging on the doors of players' agents.

As soon as we have breaking transfer news, I'll post it here...

  48. 1352:

Tom in Newcastle: "Shola Ameobi heading for Glasgow Airport"

  49. 1355:

Ryan Pirie: "Just seen Dimi Berbatov pull up outside Dens, problems solved?! #bbcsportsound"

Welcome to the City of Discovery, Dimi!! Was he wearing those trademark black gloves??

  50. 1400:

ConorKling: "My third cousin's brother-in-law works as a taxi driver in Glasgow and swears he just dropped Michael Owen at Parkhead #bbcsportsound"

Was he in the booster seat?

  51. 1402:

No major moves involving Scottish clubs/players, yet... The calm before the storm? Remember, any manager wanting his new star man to strut his stuff tomorrow needs to dot i's and cross t's by 17:00 BST tonight.

Otherwise, any new recruit signed before the 23:00 BST deadline will need to cool his heels until next week.

The Scottish Football League signing deadline is midnight tonight.

  52. 1406:

BBC Scotland's Brian McLauchlin reports: "Hearts have signed Ryan Stevenson on a three-year deal."

  53. 1408:

Ryan Stevenson seals his return to Tynecastle. The 27-year-old joined Ipswich Town from Hearts in January, having spent two years with the Edinburgh side.

What do you think of that signing, Jambos?

Tweet the commentary using the hashtag #bbcsportsound or @bbcthomasmcg or text 80295 using SPL at start of your message.

Garrie in Nairn: "Hearing loads of stuff about Rangers today. Craig Conway, Tom Hatley to name a couple..."

  58. 1420:

For those asking, no confirmation of any Celtic signings; yet...

  59. 1421:

BellevueFootie: "Stevenson is good signing for Hearts. He can play in a number of positions and has a decent scoring record."

The Paddy McCourt to Hibs rumour has spread like wildfire; our man in Leith is on the case in an effort to verify the chatter...

  63. 1430:
    BBC Scotland's Douglas McNeil

"Ryan Stevenson joins Hearts on 3-year deal. Motherwell will be disappointed to lose out on the player who looked set to join Stuart McCall's men."

  64. 1431:

Celtic striker Daryl Murphy has joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan. Murphy, 29, has had two previous loan spells at Portman Road and has struggled to break into Neil Lennon's first team.

  65. 1433:

Manchester City have completed the £6.2m deal to take Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair to Eastlands. That move may have major repercussions for my fantasty football team!

"Rumours that Celtic winger Paddy McCourt could be heading to Easter Road...Sorry Hibs fans. Not happening."

  72. 1449:

What's going on at Queen's Park Rangers? Manager Mark Hughes should replace the front door at Loftus Road with a turnstile.

His blizzard of signings include Spanish midfielder Esteban Granero from Real Madrid and Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar from Inter Milan, who incidentally, is a dead ringer for Donny Osmond...

  73. 1453:

Neally in Edinburgh: "Any word on Celtic signing Markus Henriksen?"

    Nothing as yet...

  74. 1456:

"I am delighted to be here."

  84. 1540:

alexmartin72 sends us this Tweet using the hashtag #bbcsportsound: "Surely Celtic must test the water with a bid for Johnny Russell?"

  86. 1540:

conall_cfc sends us this sympathetic Tweet using the hashtag #bbcsportsound: "Feel sorry for the people in the office today. Scottish transfer windows are always slow on the last day." We're having a great time in here - it's non-stop wall-to-wall transfer gossip!

  87. 1542:

Bill Watson in Ferryhill sends us this text on 80295 using the subject 'SPL': "Just spotted Matthew Kennedy going into Pittodrie with vice chairman George Yule. Defo him." We're

A Tweet just in from DaveMurphy87: "Just seen Kirk Broadfoot in Ralston. St. Mirren return possibly?" Maybe he just got lost on his way to Glasgow Airport?

  89. 1546:

A text message via 80295 from Gary in Dundee: "Just removed all the microwaves from Dens Park pending Kirk Broadfoot's signature. Dundee taking no chances on injuries." Oh dear, someone's going to have egg on their face...

  90. 1549:

Our top-notch reporter Jane Lewis just shouted over to me to remind everyone that you can tune in to Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland 810MW from 1810 BST tonight for "50 minutes of top, top quality news on the transfer window from our posse of BBC reporters aruond the country". Don't miss it folks, our Jane is in the hotseat tonight and will bring you all the latest transfer news as it happens. Her guests will be Callum Davidson and Billy Dodds.

  91. 1551:

amk672 asks us via Twitter using the hashtag #bbcsportsound: "Any truth in Cammy Bell coming to Rangers?". Your guess is as good as ours. The Kilmarnock keeper currently has a broken hand, so it seems a strange move if it's true...

  92. 1553:

Lots of people texting and Tweeting about rumours concerning Michael Owen being rumoured for a move to Celtic. It seems that every time the transfer window opens, the former England international is mentioned in connection with Celtic. Apparently, Owen's family used to live opposite Celtic Park and he attended games when he was young...

  93. 1557:

Andrew Boyle in Edinburgh sends us this cheeky text via 80295 using the subject 'SPL': "Transfer deadline day is like your birthday - you think your getting Angelina Jolie but you end up with Susan Boyle. Even though she probably would be better at right-back than Kujabi for Hibs." Steady on there Andrew - Susan Boyle was on the pitch for Celtic at Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Helsingborgs - it's not often you can say you've seen £10m worth of talent on the pitch at Celtic Park, is it?"

  94. 1602:

A few people are picking up on the rumour that Craig Gordon has been spotted at Murray Park. We're checking it out, but don't hold your breath folks...

I'll bring you the best from the programme and then steer the good ship live text through the choppy Friday night waters up to the deadline...

  99. 1612:

Stuart Richmond: "Is there going to be ANY activity today? Surely you must have heard some decent rumours that might come off? This is dire!!"

I empathise Stuart, but be patient. Hopefully, the trickle will become a torrent and we'll be swept away by loads of juicy deals...

  100. 1614:

St Mirren have taken their former player, Franco Miranda, on trial as they continue their search for cover in the left-back position.

The 27-year-old Argentinian spent two seasons on loan with the Buddies from CAI in his homeland before leaving for Chacarita Juniors in 2009.

"Franco trained with the lads yesterday, we will asses his situation - it's a very difficult situation as he hasn't had a pre-season," Buddies boss Danny Lennon said.

"What we are looking at is someone that is going to come in and fit into the family, has the right character and can play.

"We are delighted with our squad at the moment and what we are trying to do is identify someone that can come in and give us a helping hand.

"I won't bring in anybody just for the sake of it, I would much prefer in developing the kids that we have at the club."

  101. 1616:
    Celtic boss Neil Lennon

"There is a lot of panic on here today....deep breaths"

  102. 1620:

No interest, as yet, in Dundee Utd's £2m-rated forward Johnny Russell. Will United be able to hang onto their in-form hitman?

  103. 1622:

John Plunkett: "My uncle is a taxi driver in Aberdeen. He's booked for a Spanish ex-Rangers player to be collected from the airport. Hmm."

  104. 1624:

Muzz: "35 minutes for us to sign players in time for the Celtic game #GGTTH #Hibs #bbcsportsound"

Lots of rumours have been circulating Easter Road, reports Brian McLauchlin, but so far there has been precious little in the way of actual transfers. One target is left-sided defender Ryan McGivern.

He has represented Northern Ireland at Under-21 level and has been at Manchester City since he was a teenager. He is now 22 and was most recently on loan at Bristol City.

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon is also keen on Carlisle United midfielder Tommy Taiwo. Brian has rubbished talk of Paddy McCourt joining Pat Fenlon's men, though the Hibs boss is a big admirer of the player: he simply could not afford his wages. Ivan Sproule is still at the club but if a decent offer came in, he could be for the off...

    What do Hibs fans think?

"I have come here to find we are in the same group as Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. It's a lovely group, you might call it the group of death and it will be hard, but hard work always pays."

  154. 1932:

Hibernian defender David Stephens has joined English League Two outfit Barnet. We're trying to establish whether it's a loan or permanent deal.

The 6ft 4in centre half moved to Easter Road from Norwich City in July 2010.

  155. 1934:

Hibs' official Twitter page: "Hibernian can confirm defender David Stephens has parted company with the club and joined English League Two side Barnet."

  156. 1937:

Ross County striker Steven Craig has joined Partick Thistle on loan until January.

Craig has scored 29 times for the Dingwall men, with one of his goals paving the way for the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final success over Celtic in 2010.

Thistle boss Jackie McNamara said: "I feel that we needed a bit more experience up front and Steven will help add that. He is very good in helping the ball to stick up front and he'll help us keep possession of the ball."

Dunfermline winger Paul Willis has joined East Fife on loan until January. It's the second time the 29-year-old has gone out on loan, according to the Pars' website. Willis spent a loan spell at Ayr United in 2010/11.

  161. 1957:

DubaiHoops: "Michael Owen is in Glasgow signing for Celtic. C'mon Celtic, at least have a go at the Champions League...sign at least 2 or 3 more players"

Only news tonight, so far, is Paul Willis's loan move to East Fife...

  163. 2003:

All this chatter about clubs bringing in a striker.... Goodness me, Atletico Madrid's Falcao is tearing Chelsea's defence to shreds in Monaco tonight; the Colombian hitman has scored a quickfire double in the European Super Cup.

St Johnstone wished Higgins well, adding: "Sean had a limited impact during his season and a bit at McDiarmid Park, although he does have the honour of joining a comparatively small group of players who have played European football for the club, featuring in both ties against Eskisehirspor."

We're awaiting reaction from Inverness CT following the signing of Celtic defender Andre Blackman on loan until January.

    Stay with us!

  168. 2020:

Anonymous: "Falcao on his way to Celtic after tonight's game done deal..."

How much would the Colombian cost? Must confess I'm surprised Man City haven't been sniffing about, especially following Sergio Aguero's injury. Falcao's display in last season's Europa League final was something else!

  169. 2024:

Fee the angry Arab to 80295: "Are Huddersfield having a laugh? They get 8mil for Rhodes and want to pay us that pathetic sum for two superstars#yerhavingalaugh"

  170. 2030:

Hold that thought: Falcao has scored a stunning hat-trick to put Atletico Madrid 3-0 up in the European Super Cup against a shell-shocked Chelsea.

  174. 2042:

How are you bearing up? Once we're past the 9pm mark, things really start to hot up. Will we see a huge transfer right at the death?

  175. 2044:
    Jim Spence, BBC Sport

"Dundee Utd will do no business tonight before the deadline, in or out."

What do you think United fans? Text 80295 or tweet the commentary using the hashtag #bbcsportsound or message me @bbcthomasmcg

  176. 2046:

  188. 2124:

BBC Scotland's Brian McLauchlin believes Callum Booth's loan move to Livi may free up some wages for Hibs boss Pat Fenlon. Could there be a late arrival at Easter Road?
