Jordan Rhodes's injury-time penalty gave Huddersfield a first point back in the Championship with a draw against Nottingham Forest.

Forest twice hit the woodwork in a first half they dominated, Lewis McGugan rattling the post and Dexter Blackstock's shot hitting the bar.

Simon Cox's fine strike looked to have won it for the visitors.

Prolific Rhodes

But striker Rhodes's spot-kick, after Jack Hunt had been felled in the area, ensured a point for Town.

Huddersfield had recalled Rhodes after he missed the opening day defeat by Cardiff with a hamstring injury picked up on international duty with Scotland.

With new Forest owners the Al Hasawi family in attendance, boss Sean O'Driscoll will have been pleased with how his side started - McGugan thundering a shot against the post before Blackstock was twice thwarted by home keeper Alex Smithies.

Despite struggling to cope with Forest's high tempo game Town did threaten, particularly down their left-hand side with Sean Scannell's pace causing problems - and they could have taken the lead but for Lee Novak's wasteful shot from Adam Clayton's delightful lofted pass.

It was brief respite for the hosts whose goal started to lead a charmed life as the half wore on.

Smithies improbably denied Cox from close range before producing a fantastic save from a stunning dipping volley from Adlene Guedioura, and Blackstock saw a shot cleared off the line by Jack Hunt before his deflected follow up hit the crossbar.

Town, playing their first home Championship game since relegation from the second tier in 2001, were looking ragged and the half-time whistle could not come soon enough for Simon Grayson's men.

When Forest's goal eventually came in the second period it was slightly against the run of play but brilliantly taken nonetheless; Republic of Ireland international Cox with a superb high finish across Smithies for his first goal for the Reds since joining from West Brom.

Huddersfield looked to find a way back into the match but found Forest centre halves Danny Collins and Greg Halford in imperious form only for Dan Harding's rash challenge on Hunt to give Town a dramatic lifeline.

Rhodes, who scored 40 goals last season, coolly despatched beyond Lee Camp for his and Town's first competitive goal of the campaign.
