As it happened

  1. 1552:

So, the new season has begun and the first trophy has been won. If that was essentially a friendly, then what drama will we get when the action begins in earnest next weekend? Only nine months of excitement to get through, with your next installment coming on Wednesday, when England meet Italy in Switzerland. Thanks for your company today.

  2.

Ijaz on Twitter: "Man City started this season as they finished the last. Can't see Man Utd anywhere near them."

  3.

James in London, via text on 81111: "Are we really going to start with the RDM is rubbish already. Get a grip!! Great game, good opener for the season."

  4.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"With the likes of Aguero, a fit Tevez, Silva and Yaya Toure, City have enough to waltz through the league. The question is can they do the same in Europe?"

  5.

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany: "It was a great day for the club again. It doesn't matter what the trophy is, we'll celebrate it. For the red card, to be honest I was far from the action, all I can say is before that we had more possession and the two chances they had, they scored from. It will be a tough league this season because you could see the quality that Chelsea have. It doesn't matter if we are favourites, if we can improve on last season I'll be very happy."

  6. 1536:

City up next, collecting their medals first, then gathering on a platform around the Shield, awaiting the arrival of skipper Vincent Kompany. He is last to get there, lifting the trophy as Blue Moon plays around Villa Park, with sky blue ticker tape released into the air. The first trophy of the season has been won.

  7. 1535:

We've got our presentation just beginning. Kevin Friend has taken a few boos as he collected his medal, with Chelsea following him to collect the runners-up prizes. More boos, not really sure why.

  8.

Peter O, Cardiff, via text on 81111: "RDM not a good coach. No tactics, can't even put two passes together. Not sure he's the right man for the job Lampard, Mikel, John Terry too slow."

  9.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"When Chelsea went down to 10 men, the quality Manchester City had on show with Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero, and the firepower that came on in David Silva, it was always going to be a long road for Chelsea."

  10.

Crip Cooke on Twitter: "What a great game! Everybody thought it would be a passive stalemate without any action. I've enjoyed every minute of it!"

  11. 1529:

That's it, Kevin Friend brings proceedings to a close, hit whistle signifying that Manchester City have won the first silverware of the season. In four of the last five years, the Community Shield winners have gone on to win the Premier League. A good omen for City?

  12.
CHAMPAGNE MOMENT- Manchester City win the Community Shield
  13.
    FULL-TIME- Chelsea 2-3 Manchester City
  14. 93 mins:

Late corner for Chelsea sees Petr Cech up in search for an equaliser. When Costel Pantilimon easily gathers the cross, City break, with Cech stranded. On the counter-attack, Ramires, who has already been booked, bodychecks David Silva and is very fortunate not to get a second yellow.

  15. 90 mins:

We have an early contender for miss of the season. Great work from Yaya Toure and James Milner sees the ball cut back for Sergio Aguero, who only has to turn the ball goalwards, but sends it wide.

  16. 89 mins:

City make a late change, with Edin Dzeko replacing goalscorer Carlos Tevez. From their next attack, a cross from the right falls to David Silva, but the Spaniard can't react quick enough to get a powerful effort away, with Petr Cech saving.

  17. 86 mins:

City have got a bit more of a grip on things now, keeping the ball then looking to attack down the right. When John Terry's clearance falls back to City, Carlos Tevez looks to run at the Blues defence, but the danger is snuffed out.

  18. 83 mins:

Chelsea, who only have 10 men remember, are pushing for an unlikely equaliser, causing City to scramble in defence from a corner, then thwart Ashley Cole as he runs down the left. We're looking at a good finish here.

  19. 81 mins:

There was a bit of argy bargy after that goal went in, with the red-faced Pantilimon not wanting to give the ball back to Chelsea, who were keen to get the game restarted. Some pushing and shoving earned yellow cards for both Pantilimon and Bertrand.

  20.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"That came out of nowhere. Costel Pantilimon looked as though he couldn't get down quick enough to Daniel Sturridge's shot. Surely Chelsea can't get back again can they? They are a team that just doesn't seem to want to give up."

  21.
GOAL- Chelsea 2-3 Manchester City - Ryan Bertrand (80 mins)

For the second time today Chelsea score against the run of play, dragging themselves back into this game. They owe a debt of gratitude to Manchester City keeper Costel Pantilimon, who makes a hash of trying to stop Daniel Sturridge's low effort. The loose ball pops out to Ryan Bertrand, who is able to complete an easy tap in for his first Chelsea goal. Game on?

  22.

Toby on Twitter: "Looks like it's going to be a baptism of fire when we play City next weekend! I'm a very worried Saints fan!"

  23. 76 mins:

As soon as Mata got to the bench, he was getting some strapping on his thigh. Petr Cech - who had little chance to do anything about the three City goals - is quick off his line to deny Samir Nasri. That's the Franchman's last act of the game, with Nasri replaced by David Silva.

  24. 74 mins:

Those three goals have almsot ended this game as a spectacle, with City happy to keep the ball without looking to force too much. Chelsea make their second change, Daniel Sturridge replacing Juan Mata.

  25.

Matthew Llyr Evans on Twitter: "Bring Drogba on... The game changer Chelsea need... Oh wait.."

  26. 71 mins:

After some heavy rain in Birmingham, the sun has finally appeared at Villa Park. Roberto Di Matteo decides that's enough for Eden Hazard's Chelsea debut, replacing the summer signing with Ryan Bertrand.

  27. 69 mins:

Eden Hazard might have to get used to a few more crunching challenges this season, as Pablo Zabaleta wins the ball cleanly while at the same time making the Belgian aware of his presence. Chelsea pretty much pinned in their own half now.

  28.

Mike, Man City fan in Lincoln via text: "I'm stuck at work today which means I miss out on going to the game. As a long-suffering but for now very content City fan I hope you will forgive me for saying I wouldn't be too disheartened not to win today, but a trophy is a trophy and now we have a taste for them we want more. If anything Mancini is using this as a test game with his tactics. I would like to see us take advantage of the extra man and take the trophy back to Manchester."

  29. 67 mins:

Chelsea tempers getting a little frayed too, with Ashley Cole, who has already been booked, having to be calmed by referee Kevin Friend.

  30.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"That was a fabulous goal by Samir Nasri. Once again Manchester City got round the full-backs and if you cross it from there the centre-backs don't know what to do. It was a finish with the outside of his left foot with the ball going across him; a great piece of skill."

  31.
GOAL- Chelsea 1-3 Manchester City - Samir Nasri (65 mins)

City look like they could score with every attack now, they are swarming over the Chelsea defence. Carlos Tevez releases Aleksandar Kolarov on the overlap on the left, with a cross whipped in towards Samir Nasri, who only needs to poke the ball past Petr Cech with his left foot. City completely in charge, with the first trophy of the season surely heading their way.

  32.

Chris Palmer on Twitter: "Who is that wearing 32 for Man City? Couldn't be Tevez, he played his last game for the club surely?"

  33. 62 mins:
    YELLOW CARD

Hard not to agree with Pat Nevin, City have had more of the play in this match and deserve to be ahead. It could also now turn into a long afternoon for 10-man Chelsea, who have Ashley Cole booked for a trip on Tevez.

  34.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"What a hit that was into the top corner by Carlos Tevez. He went past two Chelsea centre-backs and he had a goalkeeper who knew where it was going, but Petr Cech could do nothing about it. Overall, you have to say Manchester City deserve to be ahead."

  35.

August 14th Born on Twitter: "Wonder why Mancini is talking of lack of summer new arrivals. Will you really need any addition to this complete city squad?"

  36.
GOAL- Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City - Carlos Tevez (59 mins)

City are suddenly all over Chelsea, but the Blues do well to keep the champions at arm's length. However, when Carlos Tevez picks the ball up on the left of the Chelsea box, he darts across the whitewash, then whips a sniper-like right-foot shot past Petr Cech to give City the lead. Wonderful goal from the lean-looking Tevez, who rushes to celebrate with the City fans. Is that the same bloke who spent most of last season playing golf?

  37.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"All the way through the first half, I was explaining that Chelsea were having to defend areas when Manchester City get to the byline and they have done it again. The ball is cleared, but it's a fantastic finish by Yaya Toure. When you get to the byline that often, eventually something happens. We have a game on now."

  38.
GOAL- Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City - Yaya Toure (53 mins)

City are level, thanks to an excellent finish from Yaya Toure. A cross from the right isn't quite cleared by Chelsea, falling to Toure on the edge of the box. He takes a touch to shift it on to his right foot, then unleashes a low shot that gives Petr Cech no chance. City fans celebrate with a half-hearted Poznan dance, have they forgotten how to do it over the summer?

  39. 51 mins:

Chelsea aren't currently looking like a side who have only 10 men, but both teams are looking a little guilty of giving the ball away too easily. After that early Torres run, the second half has got a little sloppy.

  40.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"That was absolutely cynical by Vincent Kompany on Fernando Torres and as violent a shoulder charge that I've seen in the game."

  41. 50 mins:
    YELLOW CARD

More good running from Torres sees him bodychecked by Vincent Kompany, with the City skipper getting a yellow card for his trouble. With Didier Drogba having left Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will be looking for Torres to be the main man, and they can be encouraged by his display so far today.

  42. 47 mins:

It's 10-man Chelsea who have made the brighter start after the resumption, with Fernando Torres surging through the middle before the ball is whipped off his toe. From the resulting corner, the ball drops to Frank Lampard, who smashes his effort over the bar.

  43. 1436:
    KICK-OFF

With Branislav Ivanovic taking an early ice bath, Ramires was moved to right-back for Chelsea. Manchester City have made a half-time change, bringing Gael Clichy on for Stefan Savic. Second half is up and running.

  44. 1433:

So what did you make of the first 45 minutes of the new season? City certainly had the better of the early stages, as Chelsea struggled to get to grips with the champions' new formation, but the Blues nicked the lead before losing Ivanovic for that challenge on Aguero. Just the nine more months of this to look forward to. Tweet using the hashtag #bbcfootball or text 81111.

  45.
BBC Sport's Ben Smith at Villa Park

"For those who had forgotten about football's capacity to enthral and excite there is a neatly packaged reminder in three breathless minutes. First, Chelsea pinch the lead, against the run of play it has to be said, with Fernando Torres finishing off a delightful bit of football by Ramires, only for the game to swing again a moment later when Branislav Ivanovic is sent off for a two-footed tackle on Sergio Aguero. Never a dull moment, very much game on at Villa Park."

  46.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"There's been a bit of edge to it and there is silverware involved, but you would want to get through it without any damage being done to your team. Branislav Ivanovic has been sent off, David Luiz is hobbling, so Chelsea are already in a difficult situation for the start of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if Roberto Di Matteo brings on a couple of substitutes and tries to see the game out."

  47.
    HALF-TIME

A few more tasty challenges fly in before the whistle, which is greeted by a chorus of boos. I'm not sure who they were aimed at, but my guess is that they were from the Chelsea end towards Kevin Friend. If this is a glorified friendly, the last few minutes of that first half were anything but.

  48.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"'Chelsea down to 10 men, they'll never win this.' Where have we heard that before?"

  49. 45 mins:

Replays of that Ivanovic tackle don't really do the Chelsea man any favours, though perhaps it would be unfair to describe it as two-footed. What's not in doubt is that his studs were up, catching Kolarov halfway up his shin.

  50.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"On first look, there was no doubt in my mind that Branislav Ivanovic went for the ball, but if in the referee's mind it was reckless than he can be sent off. And having seen the replay when the studs were up, if the referee had missed that we would have been having a go at him."

  51. 42 mins:
    RED CARD- Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea)

As soon as Chelsea go ahead, the complexion of this game changes again. Branislav Ivanovic slides in at Aleksandar Kolarov, it looks two-footed and Kevin Friend reaches straight for his top pocket to produce a red card. It looks a pretty poor challenge on first look, but Chelsea will claim their man got the ball. I'm afraid though, that defence will not wash.

  52.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Chelsea's game plan would appear to be to get as many creative midfield players in the box to create chances for a single centre-forward, in this case Fernando Torres. That was a world-class finish from him, and a reminder of the player he was at Lvierpool."

  53.
GOAL- Chelsea 1-0 Manchester City - Fernando Torres (40 mins)

Has this come out of the blue? Against the run of play? Probably. A ball from Ramires falls to Fernando Torres at the back post, with the Spaniard taking control with his right foot and lifting the ball over Costel Pantilimon with his left. Chelsea lead and Torres has struck in his first games as the Blues' main man.

  54. 38 mins:

Ole! Has Petr Cech been watching the Olympic Handball? He can't quite gather a cross that comes in from the left, twice palming the ball out of danger then running to boot it clear.

  55.
BBC Sport's Ben Smith at Villa Park

"This is fascinating tussle. Roberto Mancini is experimenting with a 3-4-1-2 formation with Savic, Kompany and Zabaleta across the defence, allowing Milner and Kolarov to play as wing-backs alongside Yaya Toure and De Jong in midfield. That is giving City the platform to win the midfield battle at the moment and Chelsea are looking increasingly overrun. Di Matteo may need to make a tweak in order to prevent this drip of City domination from becoming a downpour."

  56. 35 mins:

A potentially significant piece of news, not concerning this game but perhaps one of the teams in it. Liverpool are playing a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen today, but have not included Manchester City target Daniel Agger in their line-up.

  57. 33 mins:
    YELLOW CARD

I think they call that taking a booking for the team. As City counter-attack from a Chelsea corner, the Blues (City are in their red change strip today) are caught on the hop. Ramires is in pursuit of Samir Nasri, bringing the Frenchman down from behind and getting a booking for his trouble.

  58.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Chelsea are playing as a breaking side so far but they aren't holding it up and getting enough support to Fernando Torres. That Eden Hazard shot showed good signs of positivity from him."

  59. 30 mins:

Chelsea getting into the game now, with Hazard providing the inspiration. He aims a low shot across the slick surface from about five yards outside the penalty box, causing Costel Pantilimon to flop his considerable frame behind it. Tremors felt as far away as Crewe.

  60. 28 mins:

Eden Hazard looks comfortable on the ball. His run contributes to Chelsea winning a corner. When the ball falls back to John Obi Mikel, he blazes high over the bar, with the ball still rising as it it passes Solihull.

  61.

Tim Collingwood on Twitter: "It will be interesting to see what will happen to either of these teams if they don't match their success of last season."

  62. 26 mins:

Finally Chelsea get an effort on target, Frank Lampard's shot from the edge of the box going straight at Pantilimon. Very watchable game this.

  63.

Red Devil in London via text: "I think these two will contest the Premier League. Cannot see us competing."

  64. 25 mins:

There's a banner at the City end that says "93:20, 13 May 2012", referring to Sergio Aguero's goal that won them the title. That man Aguero is on the end of a James Milner cross from the City right, but the Argentine sends his header well wide. City very much on top, Costel Pantilimon has not yet had anything to do.

  65. 21 mins:

Another good effort from City, this time as a Vincent Kompany header is straight at Petr Cech. Sergio Aguero was lurking, and a touch from him would have seen the ball into the net. At the other end, Eden Hazard looks to pull of a flick, but only gets the ball tangled under his feet and falls over. Shades of David Dunn?

  66.
BBC Sport's Ben Smith at Villa Park

"Plenty of dash but very little panache in the early stages at Villa Park. City have, perhaps, found their rhythm a little more quickly than Chelsea but neither side has had the time to settle just yet with tackles snapping in all over the park.

"The empty seats in all four stands are something of a reminder that this game is not the showpiece it had been in years gone by but there is no doubting the commitment from both teams. John Terry is being booed by the City supporters every time he touches the ball but no genuine goalmouth action to speak of just yet."

  67.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"John Obi Mikel has had a terror of a start in this game, he's given the ball away countless times and Manchester City are trying to go through the middle a lot. They don't think David Luiz has enough cover through there."

  68. 18 mins:

Petr Cech again forced into action when an Aleksandar Kolarov corner looks to be dipping under the crossbar. Not many players in the City half right now.

  69.

Ben Pett on Twitter: "Chelsea have signed a lot of creative players this summer, but are they going to be too reliant on Torres for goals?"

  70. 16 mins:

City looking much livelier here. Sergio Aguero runs at the Chelsea defence, with the ball eventually falling to Samir Nasri on the left. Nasri pokes goalwards, but Petr Cech is out to smother the ball.

  71.

James S A Watson on Twitter: "Great start to the Community Shield - both teams look up for it! Tackles flying in."

  72. 12 mins:
    YELLOW CARD

Stefan Savic gets the first booking of the day for a poor challenge on Eden Hazard. That tackle happened quite some time ago, but Kevin Friend had played the advantage. Yaya Toure catches Fernando Torres on the bonce with a high boot, but Chelsea waste the free-kick. Quite spicy at the moment.

  73. 9 mins:

There are quite a few empty seats at Villa Park, and I'm being told that some fans have struggled to get to the ground because of problems on the M6. Jamelia was scheduled to sing the national anthem, but she didn't make it either.

  74. 7 mins:

A City corner on their left is flicked clear, bit only for another corner. There's plenty of wrestling in the box, but Chelsea get in clear. City looking the better side at the moment.

  75.

Shadders via text: "In my opinion Chelsea have weakened - Drogba won them the Champions League - their troubles are not over I feel. City have gained Tevez. 2-1 City."

  76. 6 mins:

It's already good to watch this game, but not too much goalmouth action has come just yet. It looks like City are playing with three centre-backs, with James Milner and Aleksandar Kolarov acting as wing-backs.

  77.

Akinpelu Kayode on Twitter: "With all due respect, I enjoyed the Olympics, I really did, but, football? What an invention! Pure magic!"

  78. 3 mins:

It's Tevez, who looks like he's slimmed down over the summer, striking the free-kick, curling around the wall. It's on target, forcing Petr Cech to dive to his right and pull off a decent save. Good effort by Tevez.

  79. 1 min:

An open start sees Aleksandar Kolarov get down the left and whip in a cross, but Chelsea clear. City keep the pressure on, though and a foul on Carlos Tevez wins them a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the Chelsea box...

  80.
Pat Nevin, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"I'm desperate to see Eden Hazard play. Chelsea will play a different system, more creative and more stylish. They can't play long balls up to Didier Drogba and hopefully we will see more of Fernando Torres. The owner got what he wanted, by winning the Champions League, so now they can be more entertaining."

  81. 1332:
    KICK-OFF

Slightly later than planned, the season has begun.

  82.

Crip Cooke on Twitter: "Torres, coming off the back of a great campaign in the Euros with Spain, should be brimming full of confidence today."

  83. 1331:

The players have been lined up to meet the various dignitaries and the national anthem has been sung. The 2012-13 season is about to get under way...

  84.

Matt in Fareham via text: "Would be nice for a Chelsea win - but they have had a very shaky pre-season. Some big defensive issues in the 3-1 loss to Brighton."

  85.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo: "The ambition is always high, we are looking forward to next season where we are involved in a lot of competitions and we try to improve. Eden Hazard has great ability and a great final pass, so hopefully he can slot in and get used to the Premier League quickly."

  86. 1323:

Three members of the armed forces are going to carry the three trophies related to this match onto the pitch - the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Community Shield itself. The teams are lining up in the tunnel behind them, familiar faces all. Welcome back, old friends.

  87.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini: "Yes it is a harder challenge to stay at the top. If you are lucky, you can win a trophy but after that it is harder to stay there. We consider Jack Rodwell to be a good, young player. He will be an important midfielder for the England national team and for us. We need someone who wants to win, is good tactically and is a good player for the future."

  88.

Eric D'Legend on Twitter: "Chelsea to win the Community Shield by beating City 2 goals to nil. Hazard and Torres to be the scorers."

  89.
    LINE-UPS

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Ramires, Eden Hazard, Mata, Torres. Subs: Turnbull, Essien, Meireles, Sturridge, Cahill, Bertrand, Piazon.

Man City: Pantilimon, Savic, Kompany, Kolarov, Zabaleta, Milner, Toure Yaya, De Jong, Nasri, Tevez, Aguero. Subs: Holmen Johansen, Dzeko, Adam Johnson, Silva, Clichy, Toure, Razak.

  90. 1314:

Of course, it's not just this witty, insightful, interesting text commentary that will get you through the day. Those marvellous chaps at 5 live sports extra are just taking the airwaves. You can listen online too.

  91.

Ham on Twitter: "YES!!! Footie's back!!"

  92. 1309:

One other thing to keep in mind today is that if we're level after 90 minutes, it's straight to penalties. Personally, I think I'd quite like to see a shoot-out to get the season under way.

  93.
BBC Sport's Ben Smith at Villa Park

"The rain is thumping down in Birmingham. It's a pretty grim scene at present but if Mother Nature is attempting to make is all feel like the football season is suddenly upon us, she's doing a good job. Jamelia will be singing the national anthem, incidentally. She may need brolly if this deluge continues."

  94. 1303:

As well as being without Joe Hart, City will also be without striker Mario Balotelli. Awol? No. Fireworks-related injury? No. Crashed his quad bike? No. He's got conjunctivitis. Poor lamb.

  95. 1259:

You want facts? I have this gem to start us of. This is the first Community (or Charity) Shield not to involve Manchester United since 2006. That was the last time the match was played at the Millennium Stadium, so United miss out of the first occasion that it has been moved from the new Wembley.

  96.
BBC Sport's Ben Smith at Villa Park

"Romanian goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon comes into a City side that is also weakened by Joleon Lescott's absence. Stefan Savic, who was unconvincing at times last season, deputises while Roberto Mancini partners Sergio Aguero and a new lean, mean Carlos Tevez in attack. Pre-season reports suggest they have struck up quite a partnership - worth watching. Roberto Di Matteo fields arguably his strongest Chelsea side with Eden Hazard given the chance to shine behind Fernando Torres. The Spaniard no longer has the shadow of Didier Drogba looming over him and will be given time to prove he can establish himself as Chelsea's main man."

  97.

Jon Robinson on Twitter: "It's bucketing it down. I dressed tropical. Welcome to Birmingham..!"

  98. 1251:

We have news of the teams, with Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart ruled out with a back injury that will also force him to miss England's midweek friendly with Italy in Switzerland. Costel Pantilimon will take his place. Full teams to come.

  99. 1245:

Just as I wonder where the new arrivals at Manchester City are, we get news of one man who looks set to be joining the champions. City have agreed a fee of £15m with Everton for midfielder Jack Rodwell, who will undergo a medical today. What do you make of that? Good buy for City? Bad news for Everton? Will Rodwell be play regularly for Mancini's men, or will he need a cushion for all the time he spends on the bench?

  100.

Robert Hobbs on Twitter: "Battle of the money bags today. City to win 3-1. Di Matteo sacked by Abramovich shortly after."

  101. 1243:

So, has the Community Shield got you doing the Mobot in excitement, or has it crept up faster than Usain Bolt running for a bus? Get in touch on Twitter using the hashtag #bbcfootball or text 81111. Get it all off your chest, even if you're not a fan of Man City or Chelsea. I'm particularly keen to hear your predictions for the new season. Who will win what? Which manager will be the first for the chop? Are you optimistic about your team's chances? I want to hear the lot, no matter what level of the game, from Premier League to Kidsgrove Athletic.

  102. 1240:

Of the three new signings at Chelsea this summer, only Eden Hazard could feature today, with Marko Marin nursing a hamstring injury and Oscar involved with the Brazil Olympic football team. As for Manchester City, not one new face has arrived at Etihad Stadium since they won the Premier League in such dramatic circumstances. No-one. Nadder.

  103. 1237:

A different venue is not the only slightly unusual aspect of this year's Community Shield. Whereas in years gone by the opening game of the new season would provide a first glimpse of a plethora of new signings worth hundreds of millions of pounds, the two teams on show today will have a very familiar feel.

  104. 1235:

Or at least tradition with an Italian feel, as two chaps called Roberto bring their sides to commence our nine-month football marathon. With the Olympics putting Wembley out of action, Premier League champions Manchester City and FA Cup holders Chelsea raise the metaphorical curtain at Villa Park.

  105. 1233:

Yep, on the day that the Olympics is whipped away like a Christmas present that breaks on Boxing Day, we unwrap the gift that will keep giving for the next nine months.
