Steven Tames' late leveller secured a point for Southport, who came from behind three times against Alfreton.
Paul Clayton headed the Reds in front from Leigh Franks's cross early on, but Shaun Whalley equalised from 18 yards.
Ben Tomlinson restored the lead from the spot after Chris Lever handled, only for Chris Almond to peg them back once more.
Clayton added a second from close range late on, but Tames headed home in injury time to rescue a dramatic point.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Southport manager Liam Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"I think Alfreton will offer more of a threat than any other team we'll face this season away from home.
"For us to get a point, after the amount of pressure they put on us, speaks volumes for us.
"Steven Tames has got goals in him. He goes into areas where you score goals.
"Once the ball ended up being put across the box, it was no surprise to me that it was him on the end of it."
