Richard Hinds scored twice as Yeovil beat Colchester in the League Cup.

Ed Upson's cross caused confusion in the Colchester defence and Hinds rifled in Yeovil's first goal in the competition for four years.

The same two players combined for the second with the centre-back heading home Upson's outswinging corner.

Substitute Keanu Marsh-Brown scored nine minutes after coming on when he broke the offside trap to chip the ball past Mark Cousins.

Yeovil Town assistant manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset:

"I thought every facet of our game really worked well.

"The history has been about us being a Cup team. Since we've gone in to the League we've been very poor.

"We've mentioned in the preview leading up to the game that we need to let the players know what Yeovil was famous for.

"For the first time in a long time it felt like the old times again."

Colchester United manager John Ward told BBC Essex:

"It's a huge disappointment in the way that we've played really. We've tried to play our game. We haven't done it quickly enough or sharply enough.

"Yeovil have beaten us quite convincingly. So we've got make sure we pick ourselves up and move our game on quicker than we did tonight.

"We've defended quite poorly, two set plays, one particularly early on - 2-0 down you've got a lot to do.

"They're both off set plays and they are both poor goals to concede. We haven't defended that very well at all."
