Brechin City lost their second cup tie in six days as Stenhousemuir secured a place in the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup.

The visitors, who lost to Rangers in the Ramsdens Cup on Sunday, fell behind in the first minute as John Gemmell fired home from 25 yards.

Stenny had to wait until the 76th minute for their second goal, Darren Smith slotting Gemmell's pass into the net.

Sean Dickson was brought down by Gerard McLauchlan, who was shown a straight red card, and Stewart Kean converted the resulting penalty for the hosts' third.

And Smith claimed his second of the day in injury time from Dickson's left-wing cross.
