Paddy McCarthy signs new Crystal Palace contract

Crystal Palace captain Paddy McCarthy has signed a new three-year deal with the Championship club.

The 29-year-old central defender, who joined the Eagles from Charlton in summer 2008, made 50 appearances in all competitions last season.

He told the club website:  "We made good progress last year and speaking to the manager [Dougie Freedman], I know we're going to push on again this season.

"Everything's positive about the place and I'm very happy here."
