Shrewsbury sign Luke Summerfield and Rob Purdie

Shrewsbury Town have completed the signings of Luke Summerfield from Cheltenham Town and Rob Purdie from Hereford United.

Both players were out of contract at their respective clubs at the end of last season.

Midfielder Summerfield, 24, is the son of former Shrews player and coach Kevin, and leaves Cheltenham after only a year at Whaddon Road.

Utility man Purdie, 29, has brought to an end his second spell with the Bulls.

He opted to rejoin Shrews boss Graham Turner, who he played under at Edgar Street, following Hereford's relegation from the Football League.

Former Plymouth man Summerfield had been in negotiations about extending his deal with the Robins but openly expressed his desire to play at a higher level.

Shrewsbury secured automatic promotion to League One last season while Cheltenham lost out in the play-off final to Crewe.
