League One fixtures: Swindon head to Hartlepool first

Paolo Di Canio's Swindon will start life back in League One after promotion with a trip to Hartlepool on 18 August.

Newly relegated from the Championship, Portsmouth host fellow south-coast side Bournemouth, Coventry travel to Yeovil, and Doncaster visit Walsall.

Losing play-off finalists Sheffield United begin the season at home to League Two runners-up Shrewsbury.

  • Coventry City have not played in the third tier of English football since 1964, when Jimmy Hill managed them to promotion as champions from the old Division Three

Both the other promoted teams are at home - Crawley host Scunthorpe, while Crewe entertain Notts County.

Also on the opening day, London clubs Brentford and Leyton Orient head to the north-west for games at Bury and Tranmere respectively.

Colchester travel to Preston, while Milton Keynes Dons entertain Oldham.

The new season's fixtures are preceded by the first round of the League Cup, which was drawn last week and will take place in the week beginning 13 August.
