England captain Steven Gerrard says attempting to beat a major nation at a tournament for the first time since Argentina in 2002 will be "extra motivation" for the team ahead of their opening match against France.
The midfielder says he is "quietly" confident the team can exceed public expectations and admits the squad have discussed the actions they would take were there to be racist abuse from the crowd during games.
