Lineker believes Hodgson will be a safe pair of hands

Former England striker Gary Lineker believes potential new England manager Roy Hodgson will be a "safe pair of hands" for the Football Association.

The 1986 World Cup Golden Boot winner praises Hodgson as "likeable, authoritative and knowledgeable" but believes he may suffer due to a "dearth of quality" in the international squad, stating England do not currently have "the individual talent to see off" the top names in European football.

Hodgson, who has had successful spells with Switzerland and Finland in the past, held talks with the FA on Monday and is expected to take up the post in the near future.
