Rangers marked their last home match of the season with a draw as Motherwell claimed a deserved point at Ibrox.

The visitors created the best chance of the first half but Jamie Murphy could not latch on to Henrik Ojamaa's cutback as the goal lay gaping.

Tom Hateley's shot was too high as Stuart McCall's side continued to press after the interval.

Carlos Bocanegra's powerful header was blocked by a Rangers team-mate and neither side could find a winner.

Third-place Motherwell, who will join Scottish Premier League winners Celtic in next season's Champions League qualifiers due to runners-up Rangers' ineligibility for Europe, were seeking their first win against the Ibrox side since December 2002.

Lee McCulloch's goal-bound shot was blocked on the six-yard line by the head of Hateley after Sone Aluko had opened up the Motherwell defence early on.

Kyle Bartley ventured forward to curl a shot just over as Rangers continued to press and Aluko then drew a save from Darren Randolph.

But it was Motherwell who should have taken the lead after Ojamaa and Murphy had combined to put the former through on goal.

The Estonian rounded keeper Allan McGregor near the byeline and tried to set up his strike partner for a tap-in but the pass was too far in front of Murphy and the hosts cleared.

Rangers full-back Lee Wallace had an effort saved early in the second half before Motherwell went straight to the other end with Chris Humphrey, whose dangerous low cross towards Murphy was well cut out by Ross Perry, a first-half replacement for the injured Dorin Goian.

Referee Willie Collum allowed play to continue after Jamie Ness had fouled Ojamaa as the the striker got to his feet quickly to set up Hateley, who fired over from the edge of the box.

Manager Ally McCoist elected for a change in personnel with Ness and Rhys McCabe making way for Alejandro Bedoya and Andy Little, and it was the latter who got in the way of Bocanegra's header from Aluko's corner soon after.

Bedoya was well-placed to score when he failed to connect with Steven Whittaker's teasing low centre as the last real chance of the match went unconverted.
