Crewe secured a League Two play-off place with Luke Murphy's stunning volley earning them a point.
The hosts took an early lead through AJ Leitch-Smith who tapped home from six yards before Alex defender Harry Davis put through his own net for 1-1.
Mark Molesley stunned Crewe in the 45th minute when he picked up a loose ball and curled home from 20 yards.
But Murphy set up a play-off clash with fourth-placed Southend, the last team to beat the Alex 16 games ago.

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:
"We've come here, we've given everything we can, and that's the most important thing, that we did the right thing for all those other people who were relying on us.
"We've done the professional thing. Now my players can have a rest, and we'll give them their off-season plans.
"I'm pleased, and proud of what we've achieved this year. When we sit back and reflect on what the club have achieved, it's fantastic".
