Promotion hopefuls Cheltenham ended the regular season with a win at Plymouth.

Former Argyle striker Steve MacLean fired home a deflected free-kick to give the Robins the lead.

Preston loanee Juvhel Tsoumou came off the bench and headed in an equaliser for the hosts after the break.

But the Robins immediately attacked and after Jermaine McGlashan's shot was saved by keeper Jake Cole, MacLean collected the ball and found Marlon Pack, who nodded in.

Mark Yates' Cheltenham side will now face Torquay in the play-off semi-finals.

Plymouth Argyle manager Carl Fletcher told BBC Radio Devon:

"We've been lucky in the last couple of games. As the season was going on we probably thought it's going down to the last couple of games, thankfully for us it didn't.

"Today we didn't play great, but we still had plenty of opportunities where we could score four or five goals. In terms of an end of season game, it wasn't a bad spectacle.

"Generally I'm a hard person to please, I always want more, I'll always want better and I'll always want to improve things.

"If this football club is ever going to achieve anything, we're not going to suddenly be able to spend loads of money and buy your way to success. It's going to be everyone pushing in the right direction to achieve things."

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Gloucestershire:

"Some really good performances from players who haven't played as much as they would have liked. They showed me and a lot of people we've got a quality squad of players.

"I thought we're thoroughly deserved to win and it just puts us in a good frame of mind for the next couple of games.

"Our spirits are really good and confidence is high. I always said whoever gets there, form doesn't come into it and I think it's just two games of football where if you lose in the first game you haven't got to chase it or do anything stupid.

"We've just got to go into it; the lads are looking confident, strong and fit. We'll have a good week now."
