As it happened
-
2228:
That's all from me for another day then, thanks for all your contributions. I'll be back in the same place tomorrow afternoon for two tales from the Group of Death. See you there...
-
2223:
Ludovic Obraniak of Bordeaux, he has got a sweet left foot, but he has also got a fiery temper if his reaction to being replaced in stoppage-time is anything to go by tonight.
-
Praha in London on text: "From what I saw, Obraniak looks a quality player. Some lovely passes as well as great set pieces."
-
2219:
The tournament keeps going strong, I think we all agree, and we could have our first casualties tomorrow night.
Denmark - fresh from beating Holland - can knock out Portugal with a win, while the Netherlands will go out if they lose to great rivals Germany.
The Germany v Netherlands game is live on BBC One and right here on the website.
-
2215:
Russia coach Dick Advocaat:
"Poland played very well tonight, under the risk of losing the chance to win a place in the last eight if they lost.
"Meanwhile, we allowed them to create too many chances in attack. That means we still need to strengthen our defence.
"We also played well and scored before the break and had many chances in the second half, but we missed them all.
"In general, I'd say the draw is a good result for us."
-
Jordan via text: "Arshavin benefits from playing in a free role in the middle for Russia, maybe if Arsenal done they would see the benefits."
-
2213:
Poland captain Jakub Blaszczykowski:
"I think we deserve praise because all of us put a lot into this match.
"The tactics we set up before the match we carried out 100%. We're still in the tournament, so with this point a win in our final match puts us into the knockout stage."
-
2211:
After much head-scratching in Salford, we think we have cracked what can happen in Group A.
Russia need at least a point from their final game against Greece to qualify as of right.
If the Czech Republic draw with Poland and Russia lose then Russia still qualify because they defeated the Czechs earlier in the tournament.
Poland need to beat the Czechs to qualify and vice versa. Greece will qualify if they defeat Russia.
And if either Czech Republic or Poland win their game, and Russia are beaten by Greece - then Russia are out.
Got all that?
-
BBC commentator John Murray in Warsaw:"We have seen flashes from Blaszczykowski during Euro 2012 in the first couple of games, and as captain I was really moved when I listened to him speak on the eve of the tournament in the national stadium. He said some really inspirational things - and that was only in the press conference when he spoke to the media. After that I thought he could be a big, main player for Poland. Don't get me wrong I think he's contributed a great deal but crikey he contributed plenty with that goal."
-
Chloe on text: "Another Arsenal fan here...Does Arshavin purposely play poor for the Gunners? Or has he just not got the hang of English football? Whether he stays or goes I will never forget him. Arshavin 4 Liverpool 4 will always be a great memory."
-
2200:
Jakub Blaszczykowski was named man of the match after that superb goal - he is currently being handed his award by former Middlesbrough schemer Christian Karembeu. Obviously.
-
2151:
I'm not sure about Andrey Arshavin. At times he is a brilliant player, but you could say at a push that he cost Russia a goal tonight. He gave it away cheaply and Poland countered to score. Although it was a cracking strike.
-
Nicolas Lanwehr on Twitter: "As an Arsenal fan I really don't want Arshavin back - hopefully Wenger can sell him this summer."
-
Phil, Poole, via text: "I know it was a good game but most importantly did you make ANY spelling mistakes tonight?"
I wouldn't put money on it Phil
-
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty:"Great match as Poland draw with Russia. Wonderful anger from Polish fans here when they passed the ball backwards. Positive thinking."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Poland deserved that draw - there was much more about them in the second half. At the start of the game we talked to a Russian journalist about the fitness of their players, because they've only just finished a long domestic season. And they ran out of gas completely in the last 20-25 minutes. If you're going to get to the very end of a tournament you cannot run out of gas in the second game.
"At half-time we talked about Poland needing to score early in the second half and it sounded like a cliche. But there's a reason why cliches are used - sometimes they come true. And it came true tonight."
-
Si's insights on Twitter: "Group A is ridiculous now. ANYONE can win it. Even #Greece. Possible that three teams finish on four points and #Poland on 3."
-
2142:
The standings in Group A are as follows then:
Russia are top on four points, Czech Republic are second on three, Poland have two, and Greece are bottom with one point.
With Greece to play Russia and Poland taking on Czech Republic in the final games on Saturday night, it is all to play for.
-
2139:
The highlights of this game and a clip of Jakub Blaszczykowski's belting strike are already live on the BBC Sport website. How's that for service?
-
2137:
A cracking game in the end then, and a draw was probably about the right result. Poland certainly look pleased enough with a point.
-
2136:FULL-TIME- Poland 1-1 Russia
-
2135:
Ludovic Obraniak was taken off as he was about to take that free-kick - he was fuming.
-
2135:SUBSTITUTION FOR POLAND- Pawel Brozek on for Ludovic Obraniak
-
2134:
Free-kick to Poland. Last chance.
-
Benji, London, via text: "Poland deserve to win. They've been the better, more unlucky side tonight and have showed a lot more heart than Russia. That said, a draw would make this group even more interesting!"
-
2130:
Andrey Arshavin is absolutely cooked. He looks like me after 10 minutes of 5-a-side now. He's got his hands on his knees and doesn't want the ball.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Russia are so dependent on Arshavin and he's not had his best game. But he's still capable and is the player most likely to create that final chance for Russia to score. But time is running out."
-
2128:
The Poland fans are in superb voice. If it stays like this, all four teams in this group still have the chance to qualify after the final round of games.
-
2126:SUBSTITUTION FOR POLAND- Adam Matuszczyk on for Eugen Polanski
-
2126:
You heard Mick, we are into 'don't lose it time'.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"Dzagoev has had such a good tournament, but you never know he might have scored and taken his shirt off and got sent off. He drifted out of the game and he was getting frustrated so if you've got subs on the bench, use them. This is now don't lost it time, sit in and don't make a mistake. Has either team got a hero? I don't know but neither team wants a villain."
-
2124:YELLOW CARD FOR POLAND- Eugen Polanski
Polanski is shown a belated yellow card after coming back on after that injury.
-
2123:
That's a big if Michael!
-
Michael Colquhoun on Twitter: "Watching some of Lewandowski's movement in the penalty area...he is going to score a lot of goals for Manchester United if they sign him."
-
BBC football reporter Juliette Ferrington in Warsaw: "Poland's national stadium is rocking with noise tonight. Could they do this? Yet to win a game at the Euros. Polska!"
-
2122:
Eugen Polanski, who has had a very good game for Poland, clashes knees with Yuri Zhirkov and is down having treatment. It doesn't stop the Poles though who launch another fluid attack which ends with Ludovic Obraniak thumping in a low shot.
-
2121:SUBSTITUTION FOR RUSSIA- Marat Izmailov on for Alan Dzagoev
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Poland are growing in confidence. Sometimes when you score you look into the faces of your opponents and you don't see the arrogance you saw before. You wouldn't be surprised if the Poles got another to win here."
-
2118:
Poland are piling forward now. They can sense a win. Robert Lewandowski sees a low shot blocked, before left-back Sebastian Boenisch weaves between two tackles to thump over from 25 yards. Can they find a goal?
-
2118:YELLOW CARD FOR RUSSIA- Alan Dzagoev
Dzagoev talks his way into trouble with referee Wolfgang Stark - it's a yellow for dissent.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"Andrey Arshavin has drifted out of the game and that's becoming a problem because the Polish right-back is having a lot of joy breaking forward."
-
2116:
Adrian Mierzejewski is straight into the action, firing in a shot from 25 yards but it is never on target and flashes wide. Russia appear to be fading now, and it is the co-hosts who are on top. It's compelling stuff, it really is.
-
2115:SUBSTITUTION FOR POLAND- Adrian Mierzejewski on for Dariusz Dudka
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"That was great football, it really was fantastic football. The game is so end to end there isn't even time for replays. There are panic stations for both defences. Both of them have struggled and might have conceded more goals than they have."
-
2112:SUBSTITUTION FOR RUSSIA- Roman Pavlyuchenko on for Aleksandr Kerzhakov
-
2110:
Eugen Polanski goes close! A cracking game. The Poland midfielder collects a pass on the edge of the six-yard box and drills it in low but goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev makes the save.
-
2110:
There are just over 20 minutes left in Warsaw, the game has slowed down a tad since that remarkable equaliser. But here's a chance for Russia! Alan Dzagoev is the danger man again, playing a one-two before sending in a low shot which is easily saved.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"It's anyone's game now. But I still think Russia are the slight favourites because they have a bit more quality."
-
2107:
Dick Advocaat may start to think about two strikers he has got on the bench in Roman Pavlyuchenko and Pavel Pogrebnyak soon. Russia are starting to probe at goal again now.
-
Alex Steele on Twitter: "Captain BLASTzczykowski!"
-
Russell Moore on Twitter: "Re Tom Frost 1644. Boom. There's your Goal of the Tournament contender. Electric."
-
2104:YELLOW CARD
Poland are alive in this tournament. I missed a moment after that goal by the way when Robert Lewandowski was booked.
-
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Jakub Blaszczykowski also scored the last time these countries met, in a friendly in Moscow in August 2007 (2-2)."
-
2103:
Warsaw is banging now. What a great moment.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"It's just such a great goal. He cuts in on his left foot and absolutely nailed it. That's a thing of beauty, fabulous and a deserved equaliser for the way they've started the second half. Everything about it is top class and no-one is stopping that, Russia or whoever. And Arshavin could have killed the game at the other end and they broke and scored."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"What a fantastic goal, what a fantastic break. Russia went forward quickly and left a massive gap in midfield. We knew Poland needed to score quickly after the break. Now we've got a game on our hands.
"There was a period where the home fans didn't think they could get an equaliser - that has lifted them and it's deafening inside the stadium now."
-
2101:
Just before that goal, Russia had a good chance to double their lead, and it was so frustrating from Andrey Arshavin. He did brilliantly to ride a tackle on the halfway line, stayed on his feet and motored away down the left. He had three men to pick out - but his pass was poor and cut out. Poland went straight down the other end and scored. A key moment.
-
2059:GOAL- Poland (Jakub Blaszczykowski, 57 mins) 1-1 Russia
What a goal! This is goal of the tournament material, it really is. And it's the Poland captain as well, at a crucial time. Jakub Blaszczykowski cuts in on to his left foot, 20 yards from goal, and arcs a belting strike right into the top corner. Sensational.
-
2055:
Poland almost pick out Robert Lewandowski after another sharp attack but there's more solid defending from Russia. I smell a goal in the next 10 minutes...
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"How brave was that by Malafeev? He's blowing hard - he took a bit of a hit there."
-
2053:
Andrey Arshavin then comes alive, beating a man on the left before toe-poking a shot wide. It's all go again.
-
2052:
Russia cruise down the left, with Yuri Zhirkov breaking clear, but his cut-back is poor and behind his advancing team-mates. Poland instantly counter and a long ball forward for Robert Lewandowski almost pays off but goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev makes a brave punch.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Lewandowski should score. He's onside and should have taken a shot first time. Poland have got to come out all guns blazing and boy did they go close then. But have they got the quality to keep doing it and hold off the breaks from the Russians?"
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"It looks the best way of Poland scoring a goal from a corner kick of a free-kick. There speaks someone who scored 12 goals in his career."
-
2048:
What a start for Poland! They carve straight through Russia from the off, with Eugen Polanski carrying the ball and playing in Robert Lewandowski. He is forced wide though and he can't get a shot away. Damien Perquis then heads over from the corner.
-
Leonard Nwaorgu on Twitter: "There's no coming back for the Poland team. Russians are in full control."
-
2047:KICK-OFF- Poland 0-1 Russia
Second-half is under way.
-
2046:
Here they come...
-
Alex via text: "Re 2030. With Arshavin it's the pride that he feels playing for his country that makes the difference."
-
BBC sports presenter Olly Foster in Poland:
"Gone very quiet in Krakow main square with Russia leading at half-time. Not sure if the same can be said in Warsaw."
-
Michael Horrocks on Twitter: "Dzagoev is definitely going to Chelsea after this tournament. Abramovich loves to sign a Russian with a bit of hype!"
-
2043:
So Russia are 45 minutes away from booking their place in the last eight. They have a tough passage ahead though - they would play a team from the 'Group of Death'. One of Holland, Germany, Portugal and Denmark.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Poland tired towards the end of the half and space started to open up for Russia, which is when they scored. Once that happened it was pretty much all one-way traffic. Poland need to get something in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half, otherwise it could be a long night."
-
2035:
So far, so good for Russia then. The ball is in your court Poland, what can you do with it?
-
2032:HALF-TIME- Poland 0-1 Russia
-
Andy Davies on Twitter: "I honestly think at this rate that we can get through Euro 2012 without a goalless draw. Would be an amazing achievement."
Henry Walmsley on Twitter: "If Russia were in the other side of the draw I would back them to be at least runners up, will struggle in the quarters though."
Jimmy Jay Z on Twitter: "Arshavin recapturing the form from Euro 2008 that made Arsene break the bank, why can't he do it week in, week out for Arsenal?"
-
2030:
Russia on the break - it could be the shape of things to come in this tournament. They spring away so quickly, Aleksandr Kerzhakov sees another shot blocked but then almost picks out Alan Dzagoev with a chipped cross.
-
Connor, Rothwell, via text: "And that's what happens when you don't make dominance count Poland."
-
Opta Joe on Twitter: "Five of Russia's last seven goals at major tournaments have been scored (1) or assisted (4) by Arshavin. Icon."
-
2027:
Russia are purring now. Another flowing attack sees a low cross to the near post well defended.
-
Steven Telfer on Twitter: "Dzagoev has hit the target more times with his shoulder than Kerzhakov has with his feet..."
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"It's going to be hard for Poland now. Russia can afford to play parasite football, they can suck them on and play on the break."
-
MOTD presenter Gary Lineker"Arshavin's twin brother is playing well again."
-
2026:
This game deserved a goal, but you fear for Poland now. That goal went in off Alan Dzagoev's shoulder by the way. He was completely free.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"The marking wasn't good enough but the movement from Dzagoev was fantastic. No-one chased him, no-one picked him up and there was nothing the goalkeeper could do. It's going to be a very open game now."
-
2024:
It's a good response from Poland though, as they create an opening for captain Jakub Blaszczykowski. The midfielder drills in a shot but goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev is right behind it.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"They didn't defend it well. He aimed it straight at the keeper and they got people across him. The Polish defenders just backed off and the goalkeeper doesn't have a chance. The Polish defence should have held a high line. Stupid free-kicks cost you goals and cost you games."
-
2022:GOAL- Poland 0-1 Russia (Alan Dzagoev, 37 mins)
Third goal of the tournament for the little playmaker Alan Dzagoev - and it's a soft one. Andrey Arshavin sends in a great free-kick from wide on the left, Dzagoev is free to flick in a header from eight yards out. A man of that height should not be winning headers in the goalmouth.
-
Paul Bennion on Twitter: "Poland looking much better than their world ranking of 62nd."
-
2021:
Under 10 minutes to go until the break now.
-
Hugh R, Thirsk, via text: "Russia truly could be the dark horse this year. The style of football they play is very different of English football, which I think is why Arshavin excels here but not at Arsenal."
-
2018:
Some more neat passing around the Poland penalty box from Russia, started by Andrey Arshavin, ends when Alan Dzagoev shoots low and hard against a defender's shins. Patient probing from Russia.
-
Arsenal God on Twitter: "Will Kerzhakov get a shot on target this tournament?"
-
John Sweeney, Leytonstone, via text: "Poland have had the better of the exchanges against the in-form Russians. An encouraging first 20 mins for them. It's a very free flowing game. Can see goals in this one."
-
2016:
I don't mean to keep picking on Aleksandr Kerzhakov - but he's now had 10 shots in the tournament, and hasn't hit the target once yet. You've got to be there to miss them though...
-
2013:
Aleksandr Kerzhakov has another effort, this time from long range, but his shot is way over the bar.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw"There is a weakness in the middle of the Russian defence with Ignashevich and Berezutsky."
-
2012:
Russia are now looking very dangerous. Aleksandr Kerzhakov puts in a fizzing cross to the near post but Andrey Arshavin can't quite get a toe to it as he slid in. This is a very good watch.
-
2009:
Russia come forward through Andrey Arshavin. He beats his man down the left flank and stands up a cross for Aleksandr Kerzhakov but - you guessed it - his header is wayward.
-
Tim G on Twitter: "That goal should have counted purely because of its beauty. Best combination of the tournament so far."
-
2008:
Another dangerous Poland cross is cleared, but it comes after another crisp passing move. Poland visibly growing in confidence.
-
Harold Harrison, Loughborough, via text: "Re Pat Nevin 1956. As a handball player myself and former football goalkeeper, there is very little similarity between the two. Poland produce good goalies but it's not because of handball!"
-
2007:
When Poland do get men forward to attack, they are a very good side to watch. Easy on the eye. Another flowing move gets left-back Sebastian Boenisch free, but his cross is cleared.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"The goal doesn't count but the football there was brilliant and it shows the quality of the players in this tournament. The incisiveness and crispness of the passing there was fantastic. You can't afford to make a mistake against them."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Russia have seven Zenit St Petersburg players in their starting XI tonight. How spoiled are you if you can have seven players who play with each other every week? That's got to be a great help."
-
2004:
That was scintillating football from Poland. Something for the home crowd to cheer about anyway.
-
2003:DISALLOWED GOAL FOR POLAND- Eugen Polanski
What a goal this would have been. A fabulous, one-touch passing move from Poland ends when Robert Lewandowski feeds the ball through for Eugen Polanski to steer a shot into the corner. Unfortunately he's two yards offside.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"Arshavin looks uninterested but if they can get the ball to him, he can hurt you if you're not close to him. He plays like a number 10 behind the striker but he starts out on the left and drifts but the full-back can't follow him so he becomes so difficult to pick up."
-
Chris Hussey on Twitter: "Tyton to be a Titan tonight?"
-
1959:
My earlier bold chat that Poland would not sit deep and defend is absolute nonsense by the way. They are well prepared to line up in two banks of four and deny the Russians space.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"It's been a good start for Poland - they've come close and are closing Russia down quickly. The Russians don't look fearful in this atmosphere, they've still got that air of arrogance they had in the first game. But tonight will be a tougher test for them."
-
1957:
Aleksandr Kerzhakov is causing havoc in the Poland backline. The Russia striker almost gets free again but a fine sliding tackle from Damien Perquis stops him in his tracks.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Pat Nevin in Warsaw:"Poland do produce a lot of very good goalkeepers - more than any other position. I'm guessing there's a lot of handball played in this country. Tyton would never have dreamed he would be playing here tonight."
-
1956:
Lovely effort. Robert Lewandowski collects a knock down 25 yards from goal and unleashes a dipping volley which just flies over the top. Great strike from the Poland number nine.
-
1954:
It's end to end stuff at the minute. Robert Lewandowski holds the ball up well and almost plays in Eugen Polanski, but the midfielder doesn't kill the ball with his first touch. Straight back up the other end and Aleksandr Kerzhakov gets free only to see an offside flag.
-
1953:
Poland goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton takes his first touch, claiming a corner with authority. It's a big night for the keeper, who plays for PSV.
-
1951:
Chance for Poland! Ludovic Obraniak whips in a brilliant free-kick from wide on the right, bang on the money, and Sebastian Boenisch gets a header in which is saved by the feet of Vyacheslav Malafeev. He didn't know a great deal about that one, the Russian keeper.
-
Bob Dunn on Twitter: "Polish is a very hard language, I once ordered a beer but got a bowl of hot soup...still ate it."
-
1950:
Russia force a corner which is played short, and Alan Dzagoev puts in a fine ball which almost drops for a Russian shirt. Poland against the ropes in the early stages.
-
Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in Warsaw:"They want to do well for themselves as footballers and there's all this about the two nations against each other as well. It adds more pressure, certainly for the home players."
-
1947:
First touch for Andrey Arshavin is a gem as he ghosts past a challenge in midfield and clips in a deft pass behind the defence for Aleksandr Kerzhakov to run on to, but the striker just can't get on it.
-
1946:
Russia make a bright start down their left, with former Chelsea man Yuri Zhirkov whipping in a dangerous cross but Andrey Arshavin can't get on the end of it.
-
Rob Hughes on Twitter: "Russia to hit at least three past Poland tonight, especially without Szczesny between the sticks!"
-
1945:KICK-OFF- Poland v Russia
We are under way...
-
1944:
Russia are unbeaten in their last 15 games - eight of which have been won - while Poland have never won a game in the European Championship finals. No pressure lads...
-
M Booth on Twitter: "This should be an brilliant game. Potentially best group match this year? Politics sometimes makes great football."
-
1941:
Poland's anthem blows Russia out of the water though. Thousands of fans all hold their scarves up as one. A great sight.
-
BBC commentator John Murray in Warsaw:"The atmosphere is really special here inside the national stadium of Poland."
-
1940:
National anthem time - Russia have one of the best, and their large support unfurl a massive flag across one end of the stadium in Warsaw. They are out in force.
-
Tom Carr on Twitter: "I've got a tenner bet on the BBC football live text commentator Tom Rostance to not make a single spelling mistake tonight. No pressure."
I hope you got good odds...
-
1937:
Poor old Aleksandr Kerzhakov is coming in for some frightful grief on Twitter. Yes he missed a bucketful of chances against the Czechs, but he did clock up an assist for one of the goals. True, he should have scored with a header, but when he hit the post, Alan Dzagoev was on hand to net. Coach Dick Advocaat has kept faith.
-
1936:
A win for Poland though would leave three teams within a point of each other at the top of Group A going into the final round of matches. Close enough for you?
-
1935:
Whichever way we look at it then, a win for Russia tonight would make history.
-
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Soviet Union/Russia have not started a Euro Champs or World Cup tournament with two wins since the 1966 World Cup when they won the first four."
-
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Soviet Union/Russia have never beaten a host country at a European Championship or World Cup (0W-2D-5L)."
-
1932:
With 15 minutes to go then, I want to know who you are backing for this one. A win for Russia sends them through to the quarter finals.
-
England fan via text: "Best target man? Three words: Big. Andy. Carroll."
-
Capital R on Twitter: "I fully rate whoever has the job of watching and zooming in on the pretty ladies at every Euro 2012 game. Where do I apply?!"
-
1927:
I'm not sure if Poland will set back and try and defend. They looked better suited to attacking to me on Friday.
-
Rohan Berry on Twitter: "It's all about how long Poland can prevent Russia from scoring. Although their fitness levels looked poor against the Greeks."
-
1921:
Dev has only gone and done it. He's opened the target man can of worms. Is the Bundesliga the home of the big number nine these days? I've not seen a great deal of Robert Lewandowski, but he took his header against Greece superbly well. He will be a real test for Russian centre-halves Sergei Ignashevich and Aleksei Berezutski.
-
Dev via text: "Lewandowski is the best target man outside of Huntelaar and Gomez. All three play in the Bundesliga. Fantastic quality."
-
BBC Radio 5 live football expert David Pleat:"With Andrey Arshavin you never knew what you would get from him. At his best he was very, very good. At his worst he was bang average."
-
1917:
BBC World Service's Alex Capstick in Warsaw reports 56 arrests and seven injuries following the trouble between Russia and Poland supporters.
-
Gabriel T on Twitter: "Poland's main threat comes basically from all those consonants together in their names. How do you even type them?"
-
1913:
Russia meanwhile, were led to success by Arsenal playmaker Andrey Arshavin in their opening game. Arshavin - who has been back in Russia on loan since January - was in inspired form, while Alan Dzagoev bagged two good finishes from midfield. They were full of movement and incisive passing - a real joy to watch.
-
1907:
Poland's main threat, if their opening game was anything to go by, comes from their Borussia Dortmund trio: Lukasz Piszczek bombing on from right-back, captain Jakub Blaszczykowski, and targetman Robert Lewandowski.
-
Opta Joe on Twitter: "Shots in Greece vs Czech Republic - the fewest in a European Championship Finals game since 1980. Barren."
-
Matthew Vernon on Twitter: "A win for Poland ensures anyone can qualify, but even if they lose, it sets up a humdinger between them and the Czechs next week."
-
Thomas White on Twitter: "Poland stand a great chance of beating Czechs in last match, so time to relax and enjoy the biggest match of the tournament now."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Interestingly a couple of Czech players went straight to Petr Cech at full-time and patted him on the back to make sure he was not down after his error. Cech is an experienced player and has to put that behind him. Now he's thrown his gloves into the Czech crowd - he's seen enough of those ones!"
-
1901:Poland v Russia (19:45 BST)
Poland make two changes from the team that drew with Greece last Friday. Goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton starts in place of the suspended Wojciech Szczesny, while Dariusz Dudka is preferred to Maciej Rybus in midfield.
Russia name an unchanged side after their convincing 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic, with Aleksandr Kerzhakov retaining his place in the side despite spurning a series of chances in that match. Roman Pavyluchenko must therefore satisfy himself with a place on the bench.

Russia: Malafeev, Aniukov, Berezutsky, Ignashevich, Zhirkov, Shirokov, Denisov, Zyryanov, Dzagoev, Kerzhakov, Arshavin. Subs: Akinfeev, Sharonov, Izmailov, Pavlyuchenko, Kombarov, Kokorin, Granat, Pogrebnyak, Nababkin, Glushakov, Semshov, Shunin.
Referee: Wolfgang Stark (Germany)
-
BBC Radio 5 live football expert David Pleat:"It certainly wasn't a classic game between Greece and the Czech Republic. I'd give it a C+ if that. I was surprised because with two early goals from the Czechs I would have thought they would have shown some rhythm. The match lacked any kind of oomph - particularly from a Greek side who were very passive. We can safely say none of these sides will reach the semi-finals."
-
1900:
I'm afraid to say that there have been some issues between the two sets of fans in Warsaw this afternoon. A march by thousands of Russian fans to mark their national day had to be halted and some missiles were thrown.
About 6,000 police are on duty to keep the rival fans apart, the BBC's Dan Roan reports from Warsaw.
Let's hope we have a great match with no further troubles.
-
1857:
The canvas roof section in the middle of the stadium in Warsaw is open tonight, they had it closed for Friday's opener. Should be a cracking atmosphere.
-
1852:
Over to you then, Poland and Russia in Warsaw. Will Russia repeat their brilliant attacking display from last Friday? Or will the co-hosts be tough opposition?
-
1850:
That opens up Group A nicely then. If Poland get a result in the later game, then it will go to the wire...
-
1850:FULL-TIME- Greece 1-2 Czech Republic
-
Daniel Law on Twitter: "Czech Republic look a completely different side without Rosicky - vital player."
-
1849:
Chaos in the penalty area as for a moment I thought the referee had given a penalty - but he gives a free-kick to the Czechs instead. Into stoppage time now.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Greece still haven't tested Cech after his mistake. That doesn't come from the manager, that has got to come from the players. And Greece have plenty of experienced players out there who should be trying to do that."
-
1846:SUBSTITUTION FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Frantisek Rajtoral on for Daniel Kolar
Replacement Kolar gets the hook in a time-wasting exercise.
-
1843:
Into the last five minutes. I think the Czechs will hang on to this, they seem to have weathered that Greek storm.
-
David Sharples on Twitter: "Re 1833. Gebre Selassie reminds me of Chelsea's Ramires. Little stature but strong, fast, and can run all day long!"
-
1840:
Greece win a free-kick. It's a cracking delivery from captain Giorgos Karagounis, right into the mixer, but striker Fanis Gekas heads it out of danger. He just couldn't control his header.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"The Czechs have lost a bit of control in the middle but still, with only 10 minutes to go, Greece are taking their time."
-
Tim, via text: "If I was a Greece fan, I think I'd just start tuning in at half time."
-
1838:
By the way, we've seen nothing of Czech sub Tomas Pekhart. Greece have had all the ball since he came on.
-
1837:
The Czechs launch a rare foray forward, and they manage to free Vaclav Pilar on the left. Danger time - but this time he overruns the ball out of play. Disappointing.
-
Sam Bull on Twitter: "This Kostas Mitroglou lad looks like a cage fighter, wouldn't wanna bump into him in a dark alley."
-
1835:
Greece are basically playing with four up front now. They are gunning for this one.
-
1833:
Theodor Gebre Selassie is currently plying his trade for Slovan Liberec. He's put himself in that proverbial shop window with some strong displays so far in this tournament.
-
Segun Agbaje on Twitter: "Re 1823. And I thought I was the only one noticing the rampaging right back Gebre Selassie. Would be a very good import to the Prem."
-
1830:
Greece almost break through but substitute Fanis Gekas is flagged offside. They are knocking on the door though.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"After Petr Cech made an horrendous error Greece have not tested him. They haven't hit any shots, even pot-shots. Let's see what the goalkeeper's confidence is like now."
-
1828:SUBSTITUTION FOR GREECE- Kostas Mitroglou on for Kostas Fortounis
-
1827:
This game has really opened up now. Counter attack after counter attack.
-
1823:
Czech right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie has really caught the eye today. He made the second goal and is their sole attacking outlet at the moment. He is constantly involved.
-
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Last time a team failed to win a European Championship match after leading 2-0 at half-time was Czech Republic - a 3-3 draw vs Russia in group stage at Euro 96. Czechs are also last team to lose a match after leading by a 2-0 score, a 3-2 defeat vs Turkey four years ago (2-0 in 62nd min)."
-
Ross Varnam Collier on Twitter: "Only one word to describe how I rate this Gebre Selassie fella. Highly."
-
1822:YELLOW CARD FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Daniel Kolar
Half-time replacement Kolar is the latest in the book.
-
1821:
How the Czechs could do with captain Tomas Rosicky out there at the moment. They have lost some composure in possession and his calming influence would be a big help.
-
1821:SUBSTITUTION FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Tomas Pekhart on for Milan Baros
Here comes the ex-Spurs man then. Baros has been anonymous.
-
Paul, via text: "Greek equaliser down to Cech worrying about his head. Still nervous after his horrible injury years back?"
-
Opta Joe on Twitter: "15 - Only Peter Schmeichel (20) has ever conceded more goals at European Championship finals than Petr Cech."
-
1817:
Greece win a free-kick on the right, it is whipped in dangerously but credit where it is due, this time Petr Cech comes out commandingly and gets a fine punch in to get the ball clear. Just under half an hour left.
-
Max Bentley on Twitter: "A Greek half-time substitute scores for the second consecutive match. Can they be the comeback kings of Euro 2012?"
Alex Cockle on Twitter: "That's it Petr, get the mistakes out of your system before the start of next season. Good lad."
-
1815:
The Greek tails are up now, if they can keep 11 men on the pitch then you fancy them to nick a draw here.
-
1814:YELLOW CARD FOR GREECE- Dimitris Salpingidis
These cards are clocking up now. Salpingidis is the latest to go in the book for a rash tackle on David Limbersky.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"That was a pure lapse in concentration from Cech - he's had nothing to do all game. He looked at the nearest defender, who had nothing to do with it, almost hoping it was his fault. It wasn't. That was all down to Cech. He looked like he wanted a big hole to swallow him up."
-
1812:YELLOW CARD FOR GREECE- Kyriakos Papadopoulos
The defender chops down Milan Baros and is shown a yellow card
-
1812:
So for the second game in a row, a Greece substitute has provided the goods straight away.
-
1809:GOAL- Greece (Fanis Gekas, 53 mins) 1-2 Czech Republic
Good grief, what has happened to Petr Cech? Another clanger of the highest order presents Greece with a way back into this match. A cross from the left should be bread and butter stuff for the Chelsea man but he somehow gets mixed up with defender Tomas Sivok and fumbles the ball straight to sub Fanis Gekas, who does the business. Game on.
-
1809:
Greece are starting to have more of the ball now. If they can get one back in the next few minutes we can start talking about comebacks...
-
Tim in Marlow on text: "Tom, Nick Powell IS a special talent. I wouldn't mind placing a bet that he scores for England during the World Cup finals in 2018. Any takers?"
I saw him play in League Two a bit last year - he looked superb. Maybe loan him out in the Championship for a year though first? Not sure if he's ready for the Premier League just yet
-
1804:
I'm not sure what the thinking was behind taking Tomas Rosicky off at half-time, I can only assume the Czech captain is nursing a knock.
-
1803:
A half-time sub did the job for Greece in their last game, can it work again? But instead it is the Czechs who have a great chance in the opening seconds. Theodor Gebre Selassie is again involved, and his low shot falls at the feet of Milan Baros six yards out, but he can't get a clean strike on the ball. Should be 3-0.
-
Tim Stifler on Twitter: "This was supposed to be a boring Group A and it certainly is being the most interesting so far."
-
1802:KICK-OFF- Greece 0-2 Czech Republic
We are off then, a change each at the break.
-
1802:SUBSTITUTION FOR GREECE- Fanis Gekas on for Giorgos Fotakis
-
1802:SUBSTITUTION FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Daniel Kolar on for Tomas Rosicky
-
1800:
The players are back out on the pitch.
-
1754:
A bit of news back on the domestic front for you, and Manchester United have signed teenager Nick Powell from Crewe for an undisclosed fee.
You may recall Powell scoring a sensational goal in the League Two play-off final last month. He looked a special talent at that level, but this is a huge step up.
-
1753:
Well there we go, David Pleat has spoken. More goals to come after the break?
-
BBC Radio 5 live football expert David Pleat:"Greece have tried to respond but they were terribly square for the two goals. They were supposed to be on a piece of string at the back - but somebody must have cut the string. It's a big uphill battle and I expect Czech Republic to score more as Greece try to get back into the game by pushing forward."
-
Rob Ladak, London, via text: "I see the Czechs have recruited a marathon runner in Gebre Selassie to play at right back. Think England should slot Paula Radcliffe in to keep Ibrahimovic quiet."
-
Suraj, London, via text: "Re 1742. If Danny Mills think it's an inch offside, it's not harsh, it's offside. Simple as."
-
1747:
So Greece were very much second best during that 45 minutes, but a word of warning to the Czechs - Greece were nowhere to be seen in the first half against Poland last week, but bossed the second half.
Is a repeat performance on the cards?
-
James Gunn on Twitter: "The officiating has been shocking in this tournament so far. Second goal in as many games for Greece wrongly disallowed."
-
1746:HALF-TIME- Greece 0-2 Czech Republic
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Talk about not giving the benefit of doubt to the forward - that was only about an inch offside. That is very, very harsh. The linesman was a bit premature putting his flag up."
-
1742:
The Czechs would have been stunned by that offside goal, and they instantly attack back, with Petr Jiracek beating his man and firing over the top. A goal for Greece now, however surprising, would turn this game on its head.
-
Ryan, Northants, via text: "I keep hearing this repeated phrase 'defenders have been shocking' in so many commentaries. Match of the Day said Premier League defending has been poor. I heard in La Liga highlights that their defending was poor and now at the Euros. Has it ever occured to pundits and spectators that, with the pace and trickery in the modern game, defending in its traditional art has become nigh-on impossible? Just a thought."
-
1739:DISALLOWED GOAL FOR GREECE- Giorgos Fotakis
Almost a way back for Greece. Vassilis Torossidis is the provider again down that right, and he whips in a cross for Giorgos Fotakis to head in at the back post. Fotakis is flagged offside though - and he wasn't. Bad call.
-
Tom Sneller, Oxford, via text: "I put Pilar in my fantasy team last minute after your praise at 1547 and at the moment, it's really paying off, thanks!"
I wish I had!
-
1736:
Greece get Kostas Fortounis on the ball for the first time, and he almost fashions a chance with an excellent pass - but Dimitris Salpingidis is offside. A glimmer of hope there though.
-
1735:YELLOW CARD FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Petr Jiracek
Referee Stephane Lannoy does not like a high boot - he books Jiracek this time for trying to win the ball.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"If Greece are going to get back into this game coach Fernando Santos is going to have to change something quickly. At the moment Petr Cech is a spectator."
-
1734:YELLOW CARD FOR GREECE- Vassilis Torossidis
Torossidis goes through the back of Vaclav Pilar and gets the booking.
-
1732:
For all their positive attacking so far, we've not seen much from Milan Baros up front for the Czechs. His latest involvement is a poor touch to give the ball away. Ex-Spurs youngster Tomas Pekhart is an option on that bench, I wonder if we will see him get a run out later on?
-
1731:
Half an hour gone then, and no sign as yet of a Greek recovery.
-
Oli Wainwright on Twitter: "Surely things can only get FETA for the Greeks in the second half?"
-
Chris, Solihull, via text: "Changed my fantasy team goalkeeper from Szczesny (sent off last match) to Chalkias this match. And got a Greek defender. Hmmmmm."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"There wasn't anything intentional about Rosicky's challenge on Karagounis. It will sting but I'm not sure he needed to roll around on the floor like he had been shot. Maybe he was trying to bring on the booking."
-
1728:
The Czechs pour forward again, the pitch opens up for Tomas Rosicky and he has a dig from 25 yards, forcing Michalis Sifakis into his first save since coming on. Decent effort.
-
1726:YELLOW CARD FOR CZECH REPUBLIC- Tomas Rosicky
It's one of those where Rosicky is booked for a high foot as he cleared the ball. He does graze Giorgos Karagounis on the head with his studs I think, but his eyes were on the ball the whole time.
-
Anon via text: "To continue with the awful Greece/economy jokes...Greece has had to stop exporting houmous and taramasalata. Apparently there's a double-dip recession..."
-
1724:
The game has slowed somewhat from that manic start, with the Czechs possibly thinking that the job is done. If they get their heads down though they could wipe out that goal difference from the Russia drubbing. Every time they get the ball wide they look like scoring.
-
Rob Helliwell on Twitter: "Chalkias subbed with a bad case of embarrassment."
-
1723:
Referee Stephane Lannoy goes flying as he is challenged by goalscorer Petr Jiracek. Always a great moment.
-
Chloe, on a sofa in south east London, via text: "Well I wasn't expecting that. I don't think anyone was. If Greece continue the poor defence will there be plates to smash at HT?"
-
1721:SUBSTITUTION FOR GREECE- Michalis Sifakis on for Kostas Chalkias
Yep, that's it for Chalkias as he limps off to be replaced by Michalis Sifakis.
-
1720:
Greece's problems look like they may have got worse here, as goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias kicks the ball out before shaking his head. Is he injured?
-
1720:
Bad defending = entertaining football though, doesn't it Kyle?
-
Kyle O'Connor on Twitter: "Re 1711. I disagree with Danny Mills. Standard of defending at the Euros has been particularly poor..."
-
1719:
He's a right little player this boy Vaclac Pilar, and he is close to another goal for the Czechs. He plays a nice one-two on the edge of the box but drags his shot wide.
-
Mike on Twitter: "Now Greece have to 'bail' themselves out of this with a comeback."
-
1716:
No team scored more than once against Greece during their qualification - but the loss of a few key defenders has caused all manner of havoc at the back today. There's still time though...
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Very occasionally Samaras, who I played with at Manchester City, would do something where you thought 'wow'. The lad has got something - but he looks quite awkward and clumsy at times. His body language doesn't help either. To have that lazy swagger you've got to be an exceptional player - Manchester City fans know he isn't that."
-
1713:
Jaroslav Plasil hits the deck with force after winning a header, but the Czech midfielder should be OK to carry on. We've got a very early Mexican Wave in the stadium, you'd think it had been a dull start. Anything but in Wroclaw.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Every game in this tournament, from a neutral perspective, has been very, very watchable. It's been fantastic - no 0-0s. The standard of football and competition has been quite high."
-
1711:
That's better from Greece. Vassilis Torossidis swings in a fine cross from the right, Georgios Samaras makes a hash of connecting with it though.
-
Anthony Duhig on Twitter: "Yet to see a single example of this much-hyped resilient and disciplined Greek defence at these Euros."
-
1710:
Greece now have a free-kick - but it is pumped down the throat of Petr Cech in the Czech goal. Can Greece respond?
-
Opta Joe on Twitter: "The Czech Republic are the first side to ever go two goals up before the end of the sixth minute at the Euros. Pace."
-
1709:
Russia - who are yet to play Greece of course - must be licking their lips at the sight of this Greece defence.
-
Chris Eastwood on Twitter: "What is up with this Greek defence? Weak just like their finances!"
-
1708:
All at sea is how I would describe Greece at the moment. They are being carved open with every pass.
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"Both Greece's first-choice centre-halves are out of this game and I wonder if that has disrupted them. The centre-backs have been dragged apart and these little balls played in between them are causing problems. Greece are all over the shop."
-
1707:
A remarkable start.
-
1705:GOAL- Greece 0-2 Czech Republic (Vaclav Pilar, 6 mins)
What a start! Vaclav Pilar has his second goal of the tournament, but this one has to go down to a howler from greek keeper Kostas Chalkias. Theodor Gebre Selassie gets free down the right, he drills in a low cross which Chalkias only palms out into the six-yard box, and Pilar slides in to bundle it in off his knees.
-
1703:GOAL- Greece 0-1 Czech Republic (Petr Jiracek, 3 mins)
Hello! Talk about a high-tempo start, as Petr Jiracek bags an opener for the Czechs. It's too easy for Tomas Hubschman though to pick out a pass through the eye of a needle to Jiracek, and he beats Kostas Chalkias with his left foot. A great start.
-
1701:
The Czechs start at a high tempo, with Tomas Rosicky dictating play as you would expect.
-
Alex Dale on Twitter: "Everyone is saying a 0-0 bore draw so I'm going for a 4-3 thriller. With an Alan Dzagoev hat-trick later on and a Milan Baros goal of the tournament."
-
Paul, Bournemouth, via text: "Not sure why these hapless fantasy teams have Cech in, I went for the impregnable rock that is Shay Given."
-
1700:KICK-OFF- Greece v Czech Republic
We are off...
-
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Age difference Chalkias and Fortounis is second largest between team-mates in Euros match behind Matthaus and Deisler (18 years 290 days) at Euro 2000."
-
1656:
Solid singing from the Greeks. Interestingly there are 18 years and 139 days between goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias and winger Kostas Fortounis in that Greece XI.
-
1655:
Positive words for Petr Cech there, he looks in confident mood as the Czechs sing their anthem as well. Over to you Greece...
-
Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech: "We've got to play Greece and Poland, they both drew in their first game so we're only one point behind. Russia played very well and won - we didn't. But at this moment it doesn't mean anything. We can still qualify."
-
1650:
We are 10 minutes from kick-off now people. I like the goal of the tournament chat, let's hope so eh? One thing is for sure, the Czechs know what they have to do here. Defeat would surely mean game over so they have to go for it.
-
Tom Frost on Twitter: "I can sense a Goal of the Tournament contender tonight - money's on Rosicky."
-
Foxhunting on Twitter: "Re 1603. Cech is also in my fantasy team, but with my other option being Akinfeev, who can't even get a game for Russia..."
-
Matthew Hill on Twitter: "Joining the fantasy football debate, I had Dzagoev captain last week, pre-hype! Fancy a repeat performance later on..."
You're just showing off now
-
1644:
Some Greece fans in the stadium here sporting full-on, Russell Crowe style gladiator helmets. A great effort, but last time I went to a game a steward took the lid off my bottle of drink. How did they get those through?
-
Opta Joe on Twitter: "330 - Greece attempted the fewest passes in the opening round of games at Euro 2012. Limited."
-
1636:
The old 'impact sub' argument. I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a more than useful man to have in your starting XI to be honest though. A great finisher. Dimitris Salpingidis was exceptional as a replacement the other day, let's see what he can do from the off.
-
Jonathon on Twitter: "Salpingidis starting for Greece. That means he'll disappear in the game. Some players are made to be subs, a la Solskjaer."
-
Alfie, Edinburgh, via text: "Re 1603. And that's why Cech is cheap! Maniatis is a good fantasy football bargain though, cheapest in the game and listed as a defender but playing midfield for the Greeks."
-
1634:
Czech Republic's Petr Jiracek has caught my eye during this warm-up. Primarily for his resemblance to a young Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. "Why go home?" is very much the question of the day.
-
James French on Twitter: "Anticipating a 0-0 bore draw in Greece v Czech Rep. So much so I've decided not to rush home from work for it."
-
Pete, London, via text: "Re 1603. Don't worry Tom I also have Cech in my fantasy team! So clean sheet tonight please. But then I also had Lescott, which worked out rather better!"
-
1627:
Fantasy Football wise - I made the decision to keep faith with Petr Cech in goal by the way. Don't let me down Pete.
-
Matt Lloyd on Twitter: "Re 1603. I've got Cech and Kadlec so really do need a Czech cleansheet!"
-
1626:
What Andos doesn't know about Greek football isn't worth knowing.
-
Andos, Edinburgh, via text: "I hear people say 'Andos, you correctly predicted a 1-1 draw in the opener. What does our Greek God have lined up for us today?'. Bad news I'm afraid. A 1-0 Czech Republic victory. Rosicky with the goal."
-
1625:
Among the Greek changes today is a start for Kostas Fortounis - I'd be lying if I said I knew a great deal about the 19-year-old Kaiserslautern man, but he did look a handful when he came on against Poland.
It looks like he'll start on the left of a front three today, with Celtic's Georgios Samaras moving into the midle.
-
1621:
Both sets of players are out warming up in Wroclaw - where it looks considerably cooler than yesterday's furnace of France v England.
-
Ashton Moore on Twitter: "0-0 in Greece v Czech Rep would be a tasty little return for me today. I'll be supporting the goalkeepers today."
-
Hani Nyabam on Twitter: "Whoever had the Czechs as dark horses in this tourny, think again. This breed of players don't seem capable of finishing the race."
-
1617:
I was planning on talking up Czech winger Vaclav Pilar for a move this afternoon, but those canny boys at Wolfsburg have already swooped in to sign him.
Pre-tournament shopping at its very best.
-
Untitled on Twitter: "Re 1603. As the Greeks only scored three against Malta in qualifying, I think you're safe."
-
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Danny Mills in Wroclaw:"The Greek fans were expecting big things of Sotiris Ninis in their opening game against Poland, but he didn't live up to expectations. He was just trying a little too hard. Salpingidis came on and made a big difference, so it's no surprise to him starting instead."
-
James on text: "re 1603 you could've said that earlier, I've just put him in my team!"
Keep the faith James, we'll both celebrate that clean sheet later...
-
1609:Greece v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)
Greece super-sub Dimitris Salpingidis is rewarded for scoring against Poland with a place in the starting line-up. He will support Celtic's Georgios Samaras in a three-man attack. Kostas Katsouranis drops back from midfield into defence to replace the suspended Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Kyriakos Papadopoulos takes the place of Avraam Papadopoulos, who came off injured in the opening match.
The Czech Republic shuffle their pack for their important encounter. Michal Kadlec moves to central defence with David Limbersky taking his place at left-back. Tomas Hubschman is in central midfield with Wolfsburg's Petr Jiracek on the right.
-
BBC football reporter Juliette Ferrington in Wroclaw: "Poland fans relaxed ahead of the game having pics taken with Russia fans at the fanzone."
-
1606:LINE-UPS- Greece v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)
Greece: Chalkias, Torosidis, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Katsouranis, Holebas, Fotakis, Maniatis, Karagounis, Salpingidis, Samaras, Fortounis. Subs: Tzorvas, Tzavelas, Malezas, Makos, Liberopoulos, Mitroglou, Gekas, Ninis, Fetfatzidis, Sifakis.
Czech Republic: Cech, Gebre Selassie, Sivok, Kadlec, Limbersky, Hubschman, Plasil, Jiracek, Rosicky, Pilar, Baros. Subs: Lastuvka, Suchy, Hubnik, Necid, Rezek, Petrzela, Rajtoral, Kolar, Pekhart, Lafata, Darida, Drobny.
Referee: Stephane Lannoy (France)
-
1603:
The Czech Republic have got plenty to play for today, but another milestone they can avoid is becoming the first country to concede three goals or more in four successive European Championship matches.
Portugal and Turkey put three past them in 2008, before Russia's goal-feast on Friday.
And there was me putting Petr Cech in my fantasy football team.
What a colossal idiot.
-
1557:
As my man Malone mentioned on Twitter earlier, revenge is also on the menu for the Czechs this afternoon. The Greeks eliminated them in the semi-finals of Euro 2004 thanks to Traianos Dellas, who scored the first and only "silver goal" which settled a European Championship match.
-
1552:
We should have team news from Wroclaw in the next 10 minutes or so...
-
1551:
As for the Greeks, they looked poor in the opening half against Poland last Friday before the introduction of substitute Dimitris Salpingidis sparked them into life. The PAOK striker scored and won a penalty in his cameo from the bench and must surely be handed a start by coach Fernando Santos.
Big things were expected from winger Sotiris Ninis last week and he flopped - today could be his chance to shine.
-
Akinpelu Kayode on Twitter: "We're getting to that stage where every team knows exactly what to do to make the next round or the next flight. I'm excited!"
-
1549:
Czech coach Michal Bilek will also be hoping that former Liverpool man Milan Baros can rediscover his best form.
Baros was top scorer at Euro 2004 with five goals but looked off the pace against Russia.
Interestingly, only six players have scored six or more goals at European Championship finals: Michel Platini leads the way with nine, Alan Shearer bagged seven, while Ruud van Nistelrooy, Patrick Kluivert, Thierry Henry and Nuno Gomes all notched six times.
Can Milan join the club?
-
Malone on Twitter: "The Czechs will want revenge for Euro 2004, but expect the same result tonight! 1-0 to the Greeks!"
-
1547:
So how can the Czech Republic turn their fortunes around? That 4-1 drubbing by Russia may have been a bit harsh, but the usually reliable Petr Cech didn't look at his best in nets to me, and the defending in general left a lot to be desired.
Their goalscorer that night though, the little winger Vaclav Pilar, looked an exciting talent and he could be the key to a win this afternoon.
-
Tom Hill on Twitter: "If Poland start well and find Lewandowski I reckon they could upset Russia! 2-1."
-
Alex Artitzone on Twitter: "Fortounis must play for Greece - showed maturity and great vision along wth Salpingidis who looks very hungry for goals."
-
1546:GET INVOLVED
So you've seen all 16 teams in action now, who is your tip for the trophy? How about today's action - can anyone stop the Russians? Let us know what's on your mind. You can Tweet in on #bbcfootball, or text in on 81111 (UK Only). PUT YOUR NAMES ON THOSE TEXTS THOUGH if you wouldn't mind. Thanks.
-
1540:
