Substitute Garry Thompson scored a late equaliser for Scunthorpe to rescue a point against Bournemouth.

Thompson turned home a low cross from Cliff Byrne with 11 minutes remaining.

Bournemouth dominated the early stages and had looked on course for their first away win of 2012 when Donal McDermott netted from inside the box.

Earlier, Cherries striker Lyle Taylor had missed three good chances, while visiting sub Zavon Hines was denied a stoppage-time winner by Sam Slocombe.

Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Both teams had the chance to win it and probably we'll say at the end we finished the strongest out of the two teams and could have comfortably won it.

"It looked like a typical end of season game that they'd play then we would play but they get the goal it goes through a couple of challenges and then it goes through a couple of legs and goes in 1-0.

"The players have been fantastic and the most impressive thing for me is we're continuing to try and pass it, pass around them and then we get what we deserved, a great goal. "

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves told BBC Radio Solent:

"We had better opportunities than them to get another goal, we just needed that next goal to kill the game off.

"You come away wanting three points but not to be.

"Four or five people have come in and played their first game for a while and it possibly showed.

"I'm here to the end of the season, we take it game by game."
