Paul Green to leave Derby County after rejecting new contract

Derby County midfielder Paul Green has rejected a new contract offer and will leave the club when his deal expires in the summer, BBC Radio Derby reports.

Discussions over a new deal broke down earlier in the season but manager Nigel Clough remained hopeful he could tempt the 29-year to stay at Pride Park.

Clough said: "We made what we felt was a fair offer considering what stage he is at in his career and where we are.

"But it obviously wasn't enough. We will move on now."

The Republic of Ireland international, who can also play at right-back, joined the Rams on a free transfer in May 2008.

He has been a regular since then, making a total of 146 appearances despite suffering a serious knee injury in April 2011.

Clough added: "He will move on with our best wishes and thanks for the four seasons he has given us.

"We understand the situation. The offer we made him fits in with our budget for next season."
