Goals from Michael Gash, Harry Pell and Kevin Roberts sealed victory for mid-table Cambridge at Barrow.
Gash fired the visitors ahead from close range but Jack Mackreth equalised for Barrow when his bobbled strike beat keeper Danny Naisbitt.
Jez George's side regained the advantage seven minutes before the break when Hereford loanee Pell converted Ross Jarvis' corner.
Jarvis again turned provider from a corner as Roberts headed home.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Barrow manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Cumbria:
"We were poor defensively again - our right-back position (has) cost us one or two goals every single week for the last four or five games and that will be corrected come the summer.
"Danny's probably one of the best goalkeepers in the league, he gets no protection. I've just said to Danny 'I'd be pinning people up by the throat and I'd be punching people' and believe me I wouldn't stop it - I'd let him beat them because some of them deserve it.
"That shows how thick some of them are, they're out of work in two weeks time."
Cambridge United manager Jez George speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"It's frustrating for me that the players don't want it enough. I've just questioned their standards and the standards this football club sets needs to be higher.
"We want success and success isn't fighting to be in the top ten, it's fighting to be top. The management standards are never going to go down but there seems to be a gap in our expectations and the players expectations.
"They need to understand what it takes to become successful and that is the drum we need to keep banging."
