Matt Phillips denied Barnsley a first away win since January as 10-man Blackpool kept their Championship play-off hopes alive.
Keith Southern was dismissed early in the first half for a careless two-footed lunge on Stephen Foster, but Blackpool still dominated throughout.
However, Barnsley went ahead when David Perkins poked in from close range.
Blackpool failed to lie down and Phillips finished off a flowing move to keep them in fifth place.
Ian Holloway's men might even have nicked all three points if not for Ian Evatt's poor effort five minutes from time, but Barnsley held on to halt a run of seven consecutive away defeats.
Phillips had already skimmed the crossbar with a volley before Southern was sent off by referee Andy D'Urso for a late challenge.
Blackpool continued to press and Tom Ince and Phillips both went close to opening the scoring.
But Perkins put Barnsley ahead when Reuben Noble-Lazarus picked out Jim O'Brien, and when his low ball in bounced around the goalmouth Perkins turned it in.
Phillips finally levelled when he collected Bob Harris's defence-splitting pass to slot comfortably past David Button.
Barnsley were able to ride out four minutes of injury-time to claim a valuable point in their quest to secure Championship football.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway:
"I am absolutely devastated with the sending off to be honest. I felt there were two people in that challenge.
"My player put one foot in and the other put two in. I have seen it four times from a few different angles and my disgust at the decision won't change.
"I don't think it matters who gets there first in the tackle. It's the intent and the purpose and two-footed is much worse than one footed and that's why Keith is aggrieved.
"He went in fairly to win the ball. I wouldn't have a problem if both men had been sent off but the referees need help and it isn't human help that they need.
"They have a monitor to look at and they should be able to use it to make decisions."
Barnsley boss Keith Hill:
"It's essential that we stay in the Championship and results like this, regardless of the performance, give us a great chance of doing that.
"We need to firm up our status and I want to put this season firmly into room 101 and then move on to next season.
"We didn't play the type of football that I want to play. We had a lack of culture and a lack of composure at times."
