Newport County and AFC Telford aided their Blue Square Bet Premier survival bids as they each shared a point in a dour Good Friday draw at Spytty Park.

Ismail Yakubu missed County's best chance as the Exiles defender smashed a close-range shot narrowly past Telford keeper Ryan Young's right-hand post.

Newport's Romone Rose and Ryan Charles had half chances while Ashley Cain and Phil Trainer were denied for Telford.

Both County and Telford are now five points clear of the relegation zone.

Newport County assistant manager Jimmy Dack: "If you would have said three games ago that we would have taken seven points out of nine, we would have been well happy with that.

"The boys looked a bit jaded but when you are playing relegation football it does take it out of you mentally."
