Substitute Brett Williams scored an injury-time winner for Northampton against Oxford United in a lively League Two encounter.

Luke Guttridge drove in low to put the hosts ahead in the first minute.

Cristian Montano equalised with a clever finish, but Adam Chapman's penalty was saved by keeper Neal Kitson after he was felled by Blair Adams.

Williams drilled in from 25 yards, before Oxford's Michael Duberry was sent off for two bookable offences.

Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton:

"What a rollercoaster. It was a brilliant game. I thought we were the better team in the first half and deserved our lead, but in the second half, you've got to give credit to our opponents.

"The penalty save turned the game. They had the momentum and it swung dramatically.

"I thought 'shall we shut up shop and get the point?' but in the end, I thought we'd have a go at it and fortune favoured us.

"It's easy (for a crowd) to get nervous but everybody respects that we won't roll over and die any more. We don't do that here."
