Promotion-chasing Crawley were unable to break down a resolute Burton side in a goalless encounter.

Brewers keeper Ross Atkins was kept busy early on, saving efforts from Gary Alexander, Scott Davies and Hope Apkan.

At the opposite end Michel Kuipers was barely troubled by shots from Jimmy Phillips and Jacques Maghoma.

Crawley were adamant they should have earned a late penalty for a handball against Nathan Stanton but referee Roger East waved away the appeals.

The Red Devils remain in third place, above Shrewsbury on goal difference.

Burton Albion caretaker manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

"There wasn't as much quality as we would've liked.

"But we've just said that until we get to a point where we're good enough to be able to open up as a team and attack more with a bit more fluidity and take more gambles, then we'll keep doing that.

"That's two clean sheets in a row, one was against a very good Gillingham side who are pushing for promotion positions and one was against a fantastic Crawley side that are probably going to go up automatically.

"If you look at those two performances, you have to say they are two absolutely fantastic clean sheets."

Crawley manager Steve Evans told BBC Sussex:

"We've not taken advantage of the good situations we've got ourselves in.

"We've been dominant from start to finish, its been one way and I think the stats will be frightening.

"But you don't get points on the board for stats.

"I don't want to talk about the penalty. Even the Martians sitting having their tea up in the sky know it was a penalty.

"But we have to accept that in the final third we didn't do enough today."
