Aldershot kept their slim play-off hopes alive with victory over Bristol Rovers thanks to Peter Vincenti's goal.

The Shots picked up their fourth consecutive victory when Vincenti found the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Aaron Morris had already blazed well over the bar on the half-volley by that stage, while Vincenti's volley sailed over after the break.

Mustapha Carayol came close to an equaliser but the danger was cleared.

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:

"We were good for the win. It was a bit hairy at the end, and they showed the desire to keep the clean sheet.

"Before the game we spoke about the players and the team being the third best defensive record in the division, and I challenged them to make it the best in the division, and keeping clean sheets will do that.

"We know we will score goals. But you've got to be comfortable defending and we are. It's also important when you do get the chance you take it and I'm pleased for Peter (Vincenti) for his goal tonight."

Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I'm disappointed to lose and and I don't think we deserved to lose the game.

"They didn't break us down and they didn't get behind us.

"Cian (Bolger) was a little bit unlucky as he slipped and it breaks to them and they score from a decent shot, but it was their only shot of the game.

"We had a few chances - not enough chances - but in the balance of play, we didn't deserve to lose."
