Jamie Hanson scored a controversial late equaliser as Bradford City came from two down to draw with Gillingham.

Hanson scrambled the ball over the line and a linesman's flag was raised but, after a long consultation, referee Scott Mathieson allowed the goal.

Gillingham went ahead through Lewis Montrose's header and Sam Ramsden put into his own net.

Bradford substitute Nahki Wells had a goal disallowed, then glanced in Kyel Reid's free-kick before Hanson struck.

Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio Leeds:

"We needed to get something today. Obviously I felt the way we played warranted the three [points], but we got one and we go into the next game.

"I couldn't be more prouder of the lads today I really can't.

"Thank goodness we had an experienced referee who overruled an inexperienced linesman today, because we needed the goal to go forward."

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent:

"It was interfering with play and active, it's simple. My goalkeeper can't make a save as he's waiting for the fella to flick it in and it's embarrassing, it was clearly offside and it's cost us three points so we're livid.

"The referee said he'd have a look at it, but what's that going to do for us?

"Even with the first goal, could Joe (Martin) get out of the way with the handball? I doubt it.

"I though we were terrific today. We're disappointed because a refereeing decision has cost us the game."
