Notts County remain a point adrift of the League One play-off places after a goalless draw at Scunthorpe.

The home side's goalkeeper Sam Slocombe kept the Iron in it with two terrific second-half saves.

Slocombe reacted brilliantly to turn away Alan Judge's close-range effort and then dived full stretch to tip a Jeff Hughes header against the post.

Second-half substitute Lee Hughes had a chance to win it for Notts but put his free header against the crossbar.

It was a fifth successive draw for Scunthorpe but they stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.

Notts, who had defender Mike Edwards playing in his 300th game for the club, ended a run of two straight defeats after losses to Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.

Scunthorpe United boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I think when you look at the game it's quite a good result for us. We definitely weren't at our best and first half especially.

"Sometimes you have to give the opposition credit and I thought they were really good, probably one of the better teams we've played.

"It's a good time to go unbeaten. Obviously you want three points, but the effort and commitment is there for everyone to see which is the most important."

Notts County manager Keith Curle told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"I have a level of disappointment inside me, but I can understand the relief in some of my players after losing to Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.

"Performance-wise, we tried to play it in the right area at the right time, but if we are going to get in the play-offs we need to win games like this.

"We totally dominated the game but we needed that little bit extra."
