In a quiet first half, Phil Turnbull went closest for the visitors when his effort from the edge of the area flashed wide.

But they wasted no time after the break and were soon ahead when Liam Hatch headed home Martin Brittain's cross.

The U's could only offer a wayward Andy Pugh header as they struggled to pose a serious threat on goal.
