Play-off hopefuls Carlisle were held as Miles Addison's late goal ended a run of five defeats for Bournemouth.
Lee Miller handed United an early lead with their first away goal of 2012, lashing home Chris Chantler's cross as the hosts failed to clear a corner.
Chantler then cleared Steve Cook's header off the line at the other end.
Marc Pugh had a shot tipped over by Adam Collin but from the resulting corner, Pugh picked out Addison who crashed in a header to equalise.
Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott had been sent to the stands before the equaliser came as tempers frayed on and off the pitch.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury:
"We had a good performance today, the lads worked really hard for each other and it showed when we scored the goal. I was proud of the way they put themselves about today and worked hard for each other."
"We know we've got the unity, but it's good for everyone else to see it.
"We had a nightmare start, but we showed a lot of character to come back from 1-0 down - all week we'd spoken about the fact if we conceded a goal, we wouldn't concede another, and we did just that.
"We improved with crosses in the box and we've found a couple of long throws in the last coupel of weeks that have caused problems, and we need to build on that."
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott told BBC Cumbria:
"We came under a bit of pressure, not by quality football - but by balls entering our box at every angle.
"To be fair, physically I thought that's as good as we've been - we've stood up, headed everything, we've cleared everything, we've got every second ball.
"We were looking probably to see the game out and unfortunately we haven't been able to do it today, but it's a fantastic point."
