Padraig Amond scrambled a late equaliser to rescue a point for 10-man Accrington Stanley at promotion-chasing Southend United.
Jamie Devitt opened the scoring from the edge of the box for Stanley before Luke Prosser levelled at the back post.
Southend led when Elliot Benyon finished Neil Harris's cut back.
Michael Liddle saw red for a challenge on Anthony Grant but Kevin McIntyre's injury-time corner was bundled over the line by Amond to deny the Shrimpers.
The final touch looked like it might have have come off home keeper Cameron Belford on its way into the net.
The draw keeps Southend in the top three in League Two, above Cheltenham on goal difference, while Paul Cook is still searching for his first win as Stanley boss.
Cook was sent to the stands following Southend's second goal as the assistant referee had flagged for a foul in the build-up, although the referee overruled him.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Southend manager Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex:
"It feels like a defeat, but I think we've got to be positive about the whole scenario. Accrington played very well on the day, you've got to give them total credit for their performance."
"To be 2-1 up, with two or three minutes (left) and one player (advantage), to be ill-disciplined in the situation, it cost us dear.
"It [the cross for the equaliser] can be headed away, and it isn't. You are expecting that your whole team are defending properly.
"To lose a goal off a corner in the last minute is sickening for everybody."
