Ched Evans scored in each half for Sheffield United, who stay second in League One with their win at Brentford.
The Wales international striker latched onto a long ball and fired home from 12 yards to put the Blades in front.
And Evans pounced on goalkeeper Simon Moore's poor clearance to double the lead six minutes into the second half.
Brentford rarely threatened Steve Simonsen's goal, with Myles Weston coming closest to scoring with a curling effort from 18 yards.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Brentford manager Uwe Rosler tells BBC London 94.9:
"We started very well, we passed the ball and we put them on the back foot and made them look very ordinary.
"Then the first goal came out of nothing, it put us on the back foot. It killed us a bit, but I was still happy with the first half and the way we responded.
"The chances they had came in the second half. We opened up more but we were not threatening.
"In the final third, we missed a powerful striker to get on the end of the ball."
Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson tells BBC Radio Sheffield:
"We've had to put our bodies on the line to defend at times in the first half and then late on in the game, but I thought we deserved it.
"I don't think Steve Simonsen has really had a save to make and that's down to some great defending in front of him. I felt we were destined for a clean sheet.
"I'm happy with 2-0, but it could have been more. We missed some very good chances and (they made) some very good saves."
