Millwall eased their relegation fears with a comfortable 3-0 win at Peterborough in the Championship.

Hamer Bouazza struck after five minutes before Andy Keogh found the scoresheet for the third successive match with 20 minutes remaining.

On-loan Tottenham striker Harry Kane completed the scoring in the 89th minute with a superb 30-yard effort.

The result gives Millwall an eight-point cushion on the bottom three, with Posh just a point better off in 18th.

The defeat is Peterborough's sixth in their last nine league matches, on a night when Darren Ferguson's side struggled to create much in front of goal.

And they made an awful start, falling behind to Bouazza's early header from 12 yards out.

Long-range efforts by Paul Taylor and Matthew Briggs failed to trouble the visitors' goalkeeper David Forde, as Millwall looked comfortable throughout.

Keogh then doubled Millwall's lead with a header to put daylight between the sides.

Kane was a threat for Millwall all evening and, after being denied by a fingertip save by Paul Jones, added the gloss to the win with a third late on, firing in a thunderous effort from 25 yards.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson:

"I don't think anyone outside of our dressing room believes we have a prayer of staying up.

"We realise we face a massive challenge to do that, but it is one we cannot shy away from.

"We are lacking confidence at the moment after a tough run but it is down to me as manager to pick the players up for the big matches ahead.

"That is what I started to do after the game."

Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen:

"I would say it is right up there with the best performances we have produced all season.

"We limited Peterborough to very few opportunities while we scored three times ourselves and could have had more.

"We fully deserved to win so well and I'm pleased for the lads and the supporters.

"We know our home form isn't right at the moment, but our away performances are spot-on."
