David Nugent scored one goal and created the other as Leicester City beat Midlands rivals Coventry City.
Neil Danns had a seventh-minute penalty saved by Joe Murphy before Nugent put the hosts ahead, turning provider for Jermaine Beckford to extend the lead.
Coventry were awarded a 72nd-minute penalty but Sammy Clingan, like Danns, saw his spot-kick saved.
The hosts finished with 10 men after defender Paul Konchesky was shown a red card for a foul on Alex Nimely late on.
Back-to-back victories for the first time this season enabled Leicester to climb a place to 11th in the Championship, narrowing the gap on the teams in the top six to seven points.
Coventry's 10th straight away defeat means that stay in the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.
The visitors almost took the lead in the first minute when Kasper Schmeichel saved David Bell's effort, and they were thankful to keeper Murphy, who got a strong hand to Danns' spot-kick following Martin Cranie's foul on Richie Wellens.
However, the Foxes were in front after 11 minutes when Beckford's shot was parried and Nugent was on hand to smash in from six yards.
Coventry responded well, Nimely shaving the crossbar with a rising shot following a weaving run. But then Nugent's neat one-two with Wellens led to Beckford tapping home from virtually on the goal-line.
Andy Thorn's team looked like they might be given a lifeline when Wes Morgan fouled Nimely in the penalty area, but Schmeichel denied Clingan.
And neither could they take advantage of Konchesky's late red card for a high challenge.
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson:
"I thought we dominated the game for long periods. Even when they went down to 10 men they showed great composure. It was a good win today.
"Although we are eight points off the play-offs, the players are very confident, so there is still a chance. There's a long way to go yet, but the margin of error is getting tighter.
"If we show the same application we have in the last month or two, there is still a chance we can achieve something this season."
Coventry assistant manager Steve Harrison:
"It was a strange game. We had a good chance to score early on and for the first 15 minutes we did very well, but then we lost our way a bit.
"After they scored we climbed our way back in. We came up with a game-plan for the second half but then gave away a bad goal and that was the nail in the coffin, really.
"We had our chances but we didn't really defend well enough. We showed a bit of naivety and we have got to learn sooner, rather than later."
