Hereford beat AFC Wimbledon to pick up their first win in eight games, and their first on home soil since October.

Lyle Taylor hooked in Ben Purkiss's cross to give the hosts the lead, while Jack Midson and Sammy Moore missed chances for the Dons.

Tom Barkhuizen made it 2-0 when he tapped in Taylor's low cross after a swift counter attack.

Midson then struck a post before pulling one back with a firm header, but the Bulls held on.

Hereford United boss Jamie Pitman told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

"I think it proves how much the players do want to do it.

"I've never questioned them. They're an honest bunch of lads who really work hard and I'm proud of them.

"The last week has been an unbelievable roller-coaster ride. It's a week I'll never forget, and one that will define us as a football club.

"Tom's (Barkhuizen) going to be one hell of a player. He's a great kid, wants to learn, and just happens to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time."

AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown told BBC London 94.9:

"I'm bitterly disappointed, really got the hump, nothing much to like about the result.

"The performance, well, a difficult bumpy pitch with wind - you're never going to get a good game of football, it's never suited to our style.

"Not quite enough desire up front and we are not good enough defensively.

"The issue isn't us scoring enough goals the issue is us conceding too many."
