Debutant Paul Hayes bagged a brace as Wycombe swept aside Hartlepool to climb off the bottom of League One.

Hayes, on loan from Charlton alongside Gary Doherty, poked home early on before Doherty headed home Anthony McNamee's corner.

Stuart Beavon took advantage of some poor defending to net his 15th goal of the season, and Hayes bundled in for 4-0 after a Scott Flinders error.

Beavon completed the rout with a fine shot from the edge of the area.

Wycombe handed debuts to four players, with Craig Eastmond, Chris Hackett and the Addicks duo all starting.

Their immediate impact has helped the Chairboys move up to 22nd place in the table, three points behind Walsall in 20th, albeit with a worse goal difference.

Hartlepool remain in 11th place, eight points behind Carlisle in sixth.

Hartlepool first team coach Neale Cooper told BBC Tees:

"Every goal was a gift, every goal was horrendous defending, and when I've praised how good we've been, the defence has been our backbone but there's not a lot I can say.

"It started with the back four, the first two goals were criminal, and we went from bad to worse.

"On top of us playing really bad, every tackle seem to fall to them, but these things happen in football."
