Ashley Chambers has now scored nine goals for York this season

Promotion-chasing York City battled back from two goals behind to take a share of the spoils at Darlington.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play when Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's cross was poked home by Adam Rundle.

John McReady doubled their lead when he ran at the Minstermen defence before placing a shot past keeper Mike Ingham.

Chris Smith pulled one back for the visitors from a corner before sub Ashley Chambers levelled moments later with a fine low drive.

Darlington manager Craig Liddle told BBC Tees:

"It outlined everything I said about the players, the desire, the aggression and the commitment was there in abundance.

"They're disappointed in there, but I'm thrilled and delighted with the performance, because, playing against a side as good as York, we gave as good as we got.

"I'm so proud of the players.

York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:

"We were poor. They were better than us until we went 2-0 down, then we played how we can play and had more urgency about us.

"It was a funny game but we got a point. We got a big big point when you're 2-0 down and we've shown a lot of character to come back.

"We could have won it in the end, so the pleasing thing is we got a point back. We've showed a lot of character to get back into the game."
