The hosts should have led when Janos Kovacs headed wide from close range but the goal came when Dan Lowson fouled Robbie Willmott and Pilkington scored.

Craig McAllister squandered a chance to double the lead when he fired wide after receiving a through-ball.

Josh Law almost rescued a point for Alfreton late on but Alex Lawless blocked his effort.
