Darius Henderson grabbed his second hat-trick in two games as Millwall eased past Barnsley to end a run of three successive league defeats.

He smashed home his first from the penalty spot after Miles Addison was deemed to have pushed Liam Trotter.

Henderson made it 2-0 by the break, slotting home after good work by Nadjim Abdou and the big striker drilled home his third with 15 minutes left.

Jimmy McNulty crashed in the home side's sole reply late on.

But the Lions, hammered 6-0 by Birmingham last weekend, were never of danger of securing a win which takes them five points clear of the Championship drop-zone.

Henderson, who also grabbed a treble in the FA Cup third-round replay win over Dagenham & Redbridge , went close with a header before calmly putting the visitors ahead on 36 minutes after Trotter's shove.

And he notched his second within three minutes when he showed neat control to fire home Abdou's pass after Barnsley lost possession in midfield.

The Tykes, deprived of the key midfield pairing of the injured Jacob Butterfield and Danny Drinkwater, who has joined Leicester, struggled throughout.

Bobby Hassell did waste a decent close-range headed chance after good work by Ricardo Vaz Te and an inviting cross by Jay McEveley, while Chris Dagnall also fired a 20-yard strike wide.

But Millwall always looked dangerous and Henderson pounced on another home mistake to fire in the third and secure his third hat-trick of the season.

The hosts did make the bulge in the closing stages when Vaz Te found space and set up McNulty who crashed home his shot.
