Northampton Town ended the year as the Football League's bottom side after Swindon came from behind to beat them.

Michael Jacobs had given the Cobblers the lead from the penalty spot after he was felled by Jonathan Smith.

After a long period of pressure the Robins equalised when Alan Connell turned smartly and fired home.

The visitors had Oliver Risser sent off for a tackle on John Johnson before Alan McCormack bagged an injury-time winner from Raffaele De Vita's cross.

Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton:

"Everyone's going to point fingers at Paolo and that's fine. He's apologised to me and I accept his apology. I think sometimes the passion in the game gets to all of us.

"I think the goals we conceded were very avoidable.

"It will certainly be a different team that plays against Shrewsbury on Monday."

Swindon Town manager Paolo di Canio told BBC Wiltshire:

"This victory is amazing. I am very happy for the players. I told them during the week you don't have to love me, you have to follow me (and) you will win.

"In the first half I saw a really positive attitude and told them to remain calm as we were the better side.

"Today is a very, very good day but I was at risk for a heart attack."
