Midfielder Joe Ralls has made just three starts in his Cardiff career
Teenage midfielder Joe Ralls has given Cardiff City a fitness boost ahead of their Boxing Day trip to Watford.
Ralls suffered a knee injury in
Cardiff's defeat to Middlesbrough
on Saturday and hobbled off in the 32nd minute to be replaced by Filip Kiss.
But scans showed Ralls' knee injury was not serious and the 18-year-old is back running in training on Thursday.
"Still sore and swollen,"
Ralls told his Twitter account
. "But only an impact injury."
Peter Whittingham also jarred his knee on Saturday and the Cardiff playmaker is also back in training.
Don Cowie also suffered an injury against Middlesbrough and went off on Saturday in the 68th minute with a calf strain.
And the Scottish international midfielder is glad Cardiff have a nine day turnaround between their 3-2 loss to Middlesbrough and the Boxing Day game at Watford to rest his problem.
"Now my aim is to be fit for the match at Watford," Cowie told the South Wales Echo newspaper.
"There is a nine-day gap between Boro at home and Watford away."
Mackay will hope at least one of the midfielders are available as the Bluebirds, who are fifth in the Championship, are already without
Cowie is an ever-present for Cardiff in the Championship this season and the 28-year-old has been key to their play-off push so hopes to be fit to face his former club Watford on Monday.
