It finished 1-1 after normal time at Deepdale, Jamie McCombe heading home for the hosts before Craig Westcarr levelled, firing into an empty net.

Preston almost won the game with Neil Mellor's stunning effort but keeper Tommy Lee denied him.

And Alexandre Mendy then struck the winning penalty after Graham Alexander and Paul Coutts missed for North End.

The Spireites will now face Oldham Athletic for a place at Wembley.
