York v Kettering
Moses Ashikodi's strike was his first for York City
York inflicted more misery on crisis club Kettering with a hammering.
Jamie Reed scored the first two goals with headers and Jon Challinor drove home a third.
York led 4-0 at the break thanks to Matty Blair's low drive and it was more of the same after the break, Patrick McLaughlin's shot deflecting home.
Ashley Chambers rifled in a sixth from the edge of the area and Moses Ashikodi, on loan from the Poppies, scored with a crisp finish.
Kettering, who named just two substitutes, are now one place above the relegation zone after three consecutive defeats.
The cash-strapped Poppies put their entire squad on the transfer list and moved five players on in late November, including Ashikodi. However they were then hit by a transfer embargo and three replacement signings were cancelled.
Four of their starting line-up at York - Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Moses Swaibu, Stephen O'Leary and Ellis Deeney - are on non-contract terms and O'Leary had to be replaced by one of their two substitues, Mark Pryor, after just 22 minutes.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:
"Whoever you play, if you've got the opportunity to score goals, you do that. We could have scored a few more but let's not get greedy.
"We got seven and no goals against. That's four clean sheets out of five so it's a massive bonus.
"It's never nice to see clubs in trouble but I've got to concentrate on my club and on my team. We've got three points and it's a massive boost for them.
"We've got to try and get two points a game because anybody who beats that probably deserves to go up automatically."
Kettering manager Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Northampton:
"Yesterday I had seven or eight players training. We couldn't work on a back four or midfield four. We could only work on the midfield two and two strikers going forward.
"In the end you're cutting corners unfortunately and you get found out when you play good sides like York.
"That's the frustrating bit for me - not being able to do an hour on the training pitch because of injuries and people not being able to get there because of finances.
"In time it catches up with you."
