David Beckham, Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale on the list for Team GB
Stuart Pearce has admitted that David Beckham, Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale are all on his wanted list for Team GB.
Pearce, who will take charge of the team at next summer's Olympics in London, now needs the players to "sign up" to the team.
The England Under-21 coach did reveal though that the feedback he has had from players has all been positive.
"I've got a feeling that the players themselves are desperate to be part of this Team GB situation," he said.
"I have spoken with a few players and the overriding thing that I am hearing back is that this is a fantastic showcase of our national sport in the Olympic games.
“If I was still playing and had the chance to represent Team GB in a tournament on home soil then I would jump at the chance, to be quite honest with you”
"It's a fantastic thing to be involved in and I think the players are generally very excited to be involved in this.
"There are very few of us who have been involved in a tournament on home soil. I was fortunate enough back in Euro 96 to see the exposure and the explosion of football in this country for that tournament."
Ramsey and Bale both came in for criticism when they were pictured wearing the Great Britain 2012 Olympics supporters shirt earlier this month but Pearce is hopeful both will "sign up" to the team.
He said: "I've not spoken to them individually, I've heard their words and seen the pictures of them wearing shirts and that's a great indication to me that these players might want to be part of that."
The only concern now for Pearce is which players will commit to the competition.
"The players have to sign up to be part of it and from there I have to bring that long list of players down to a smaller working version nearer the time," said Pearce.
"The players will be aware that they are being considered and from there on we'll get their feedback in respect of whether they want to put themselves forward for the squad.
"All I can say is that if I was still playing and had the chance to represent Team GB in a tournament on home soil then I would jump at the chance."
Olympic rules state countries can only select a maximum of three players over the age of 23 and Beckham has already expressed his desire to take part.
